Jesus is holy, blameless, and exalted—completely set apart from any earthly priest. His once-for-all sacrifice offers eternal forgiveness and unmatched access to God.
Over the coming months and through our study of the book of Hebrews, we aim to meditate frequently on the glory of Jesus Christ. May our souls be revived by a constant view of his glory - in this book which invites us to consider Christ Jesus, the exalted Savior of weary pilgrims like us. This week we look to Hebrews 7:11-19.The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.” Psalm 110:4“God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do.” Romans 8:3Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith... Galatians 3:23-26For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” Jeremiah 31:33-34“The whole apparatus of worship… was calculated rather to keep men at a distance from God than to bring them near.” The result was a longing for something better—a priesthood that could truly accomplish what the old could only symbolize.” - F.F. Bruce 1. The Gospel replaces the old with something better Hebrews 10: 19-25 2. The Gospel offers a better hope to draw near to God 3. The Gospel is rooted in God's eternal plan Hebrews 10: 9-18Life Church exists to glorify God by making disciples who treasure Christ, grow together, and live on mission. Hebrews - Hebrews 7:20-28 - David Woods - 06 July 2025 by The Church of God in Manchester
Unlike earthly priests who die and are replaced, Jesus lives forever. He is always interceding for you, securing a salvation that never fades or fails.
God confirmed Jesus' priesthood with an oath, making His role unshakable and eternal. That means your relationship with God is secure because it rests on Jesus, not on you.
Jesus became a priest through the power of an indestructible life, not by human lineage. Because of Him, we now have a better hope that draws us near to God.
The Levitical priesthood couldn't bring perfection, but Jesus did. Though not from the priestly tribe, He offers complete transformation, not just religious routine.
Abraham honored Melchizedek, revealing the greatness of his priesthood. In Jesus, we find the fulfillment of this higher order—one that surpasses the limitations of tradition.
Melchizedek is a mysterious Old Testament figure who reflects the eternal nature of Christ. His unique role as both priest and king points us to Jesus, who meets us beyond human systems.

Romans 8:31-34 and Hebrews 7:24-25If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 24 because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
