“The fear of judgement is bigger than the fear or public speaking.” Our guest on today's episode is Diana Thomson from www.speechmarks.co.nz where she helps people get their voices heard. As children, we all wanted to talk! Yet so many people have a problem with public speaking. Why is that? Diana makes it very clear that talking is not actually people's number one fear. The fear of judgement is way bigger than the fear of speaking. Both her male and female clients share this common fear. All the things that haven't happened and probably won't happen, are what are holding us back. Diana calls these the ‘mighty mights' - this might happen, oh but what if this happens… so we take ourselves out with the ‘mighty mights' before we even have the chance to deliver. What power are we giving to the audience? Our nerves make us forget - if it's for them then it is not about us. Diana helps her clients stand in their power so they can deliver to their audience. Public speaking skills happen in everyday life. When we are at work, in business and not just on a stage with lots of lights. Diana can help with both. Communication is so important and communicating your own voice is even more important. It is not about the perfect words you will be pleased to know, it is about the delivery and the message. Can people understand what you say, what you do, and who you are? Diana herself has been inspired by women who have influenced her business and where she stands in the marketplace. Through doing her work, she has been told that she also inspires women to share their voice, so her ‘the circle is complete'. In this episode we chat about how helping someone speak up today has a ripple effect far greater than we realise. Listen in now……

Is there a difference between a house and a home? My guest and award-winning architect, Lisa Day from Donnellday Architecture, is emphatic there is. Renowned for bringing beautiful spaces to life, Lisa infuses warmth and understanding into her designs that take on the heart and soul of the people destined to live in the spaces she creates. Lisa has a gorgeous aesthetic that is as professional and innovative as it is intuitive. Space is not something to just walk through, after all. It's a place in which you exist, live, and love. “We want people to feel at home, so design places for life.” Lisa is very approachable and knowledgeable about building spaces for life and living. Mixing family and business is a challenge for many of us these days, and Lisa is no exception. DonnellDay architecture is a firm that has grown and evolved alongside her family. With her husband Scott also in the firm, it's a true family affair. Check out her beautiful website at www.donnellday.co.nz to see the variety and scope this architecture firm is capable of. Does anyone else love Pinterest as much as I do? Asking Lisa how she gets her clients started on the design journey, I imagine she uses Pinterest. She does, to make sure they are all on the same wavelength, but not to define the process. Lisa said that Pinterest pictures are about 2 years behind where she is designing from. Architects are creating future trends. Innovating materials, textures, and colours, Lisa constantly evolves her ideas and her client's expectations. Can you imagine doing that while trying to stay on budget? The temptation would be too great! If you want a house that takes you into account and flows intuitively with you as you live, contact Lisa and her team at www.donnellday.co.nz. They will guide you through the design process and the myriad of detail needed to bring your dreams to life. It was a pleasure spending time with you Lisa on Remarkable Women Radio.

What you do is a big deal! Our guest today is Suzie Marsden from Amp'd Careers. www.ampdcareers.com. Co-founded with her business partner Sharon Spence they are all about helping people find work they love. In these strange times we find ourselves in these days, our work and home lives overlap. What we do becomes very important. Can you say I love what I do? If not you need to meet Suzie! Amp'd careers are here to make sure more people do say that. They like to work with people to help them uncover their own direction. (Something she only really began to do consciously for herself, in her 40's.) It's never too late to gain personal meaning from what you do. I love getting to know the person or people behind their brand, and Amp'd Careers have 2 very impressive women making a difference in this space. Coming from extensive career and leadership backgrounds, they are both embracing the challenges that go with growing a new business. Whether you are going through organisational change, a school leaver wanting to know what to do , or needing inspiration on your next moves, Amp'd careers will help with a structure that Suzie explains so well in our interview. We don't always know what we want to do. Choices can be paralysing. But, as Suzy says, it's not important to know what you are going to do in 15 years time, because things will change. Some careers may not have even been invented yet. Just know the direction you are heading in. Suzie helps you understand yourself through your values and what's meaningful to you, and comes up with ‘Career briefs.' They lead you to find the personal meaning in the work you do, and help you get really clear about the difference you want to make. It doesn't always mean a new job. Sometimes it's seeing the pathway in the organisation that you already belong to. After sleeping, work is the second biggest user of our time. Yet people don't always invest in the career of choice, and miss adding meaning and value to their lives. And that sucks! Whether you have an organisation that wants to keep great talent, or are in the process of being ‘redirected,' or wanting to design your life and career with more meaning and purpose, get in touch with Suzie at www.ampdcareers.co.nz. Today's guest on Remarkable Women Radio is Tonia Reid from Greenhouse Creative. www.greenhousecreative.nz Tonia is a Brand Strategist, a Graphic Designer, and an indoor plant lover, based in Auckland, New Zealand. Telling the story of a brand in a clear and purposeful way, is one way Tonia helps her clients communicate to the world. Her love of life, is woven into her attitude and her work. She started freelancing almost twenty years ago in her early 20's, and was way ahead of the times working from home. Over the years she has worked out a good work and life balance, something that is so important for us all now. She was able to help me see things from a new perspective in our conversation and I know you will find the same when you listen in to today's episode. Tonia is an award winning designer, recently being presented the Rocket Spark Design Partner of the Year. A platform for websites which lives by the saying - ‘a rising tide lifts all boats', just like us here at Remarkable Women Radio! Taking her cue from nature, Tonia adapts to change by learning new skills and then implementing them straight away. Her business has organically evolved over the years and has become its own entity - ‘my business has always been there for me'. Her abiding principles to live by are seriously ones to listen to. She touches on BALANCE, designing a lifestyle, discomfort being essential for growth, procrastination being part of the process (phew!), and knowing your own process. She is clear that graphic designers are not artists. Artists express parts of themselves in the work - leaving things open to interpretation. A designer however, uses their creativity to solve problems. The viewer needs to ‘get' the idea and the purpose of the idea. To contact Tonia check out her amazing instagram @greenhousecreative.nz and or contact her through her website at www.greenhousecreative.nz Listen in now...

Here's a statistic that's a quite unnerving…80% of relationships get into trouble because of money. Specifically, the lack of communication around money. Lynda is here to bring a different conversation around this hot topic. She wants to make it more fun for a start. She's not interested in being budgety and miserly with money. She's here to help you have a relationship with money from a practical and psychological point of view. Imagine an accountant with a post grad in psychology. Someone who understands that you are not always rational in your decisions around money. We call that a money mentalist. Money and the lack if it can mess with our brains right? So if you want to know the answer to the question, why you do what you do with money and how you can do it differently? Lynda can definitely help. Part of the problem that Lynda has highlighted is there are budgeters and planners at one end of your life and there are financial planners to help you spend your money later in life & retirement, but no-one is addressing what goes on in the middle. That's crucial for you to be able to feel confident about your money and its longevity in your life. We are becoming removed from what money actually is, with the use of cards and online transactions. We are also more importantly says Lynda, removed from the pleasure and pain aspect of how we spend our money. Being prepared to look at money and see where it is going is not about forgoing any luxuries. (I was pleased to hear that!) No-one can stick to that long term because we are all wired to love what we love. It's part of our identity. So if you want to delve into this fascinating topic, listen in and have a money mentalist help you have fun with your money, and figure out why you do what you do, rational or not! With headlines on her website of “You’ll love where we take you” and “travel as it should be” organising amazing travel adventures is all in a days work for my guest Laney Sachs of Ortensia Blu Travel Adventures. Recently awarded the Conde Nast Top Travel Specialist award for Italy and Europe travel, Laney and her team are excited to be sharing their next tours and experiences with you as the world begins to finally open up. Laney is a self-confessed wine and food enthusiast. Initially starting out as an import company bringing olive oil and ceramics into the States, Laney began to find amazing out of the way places to visit on her travels to Italy. Friends started to join her on her travels and had such an amazing time, it was a no brainer to open her own agency. Now she organises custom itineraries as well as small group adventures to Italy, Europe, as well as America and Africa, for as she puts it, the culturally curious. I was lucky enough to go on one of Laney’s trips and I can attest to the fact that you won’t be needing to think about anything at all, well, maybe whether you have another glass of that excellent wine that’s been chosen for you. Everything has been carefully thought out including the menus. You’ll experience a true luxury travel experience. If you’d rather not join a group but want to have a custom design travel experience, that’s part of the services of Ortensia Blu Travel Adventures. Despite her business being thrown into absolute chaos last year, Laney talks about how she has made use of her time as the travel industry was decimated in 2020. On Remarkable Women Radio I love to tackle that question of what do you do when the proverbial hits the fan as you know, so I was interested to learn how Laney coped. Because she believes travel will be big in the future, Laney got busy. She tells us all about it in the interview. Confidence leaves a great first impression.  You can make an instant first impression as well as leave a lasting impression. Our personal branding - how we appear in the world - directly influences our businesses, because for most of us, we are our businesses. Do you truly feel comfortable with your style? Do you wear your whole wardrobe or do you follow the trend and wear less than 20% of your clothes?    Do you waste valuable time trying to figure out what to wear and can’t decide so you end up wearing the same thing…again? I’m not even going to ask you about the expensive mistakes languishing in the bottom of our wardrobe! It’s time to call in the expert! Let me introduce you to Johanna from Johanna-May.co.nz.   Johanna helps her clients look better, feel better, so they can perform better. She takes all the guesswork out of those questions…what do I wear today? To work? To client meetings? To after 5 events? To dinner?  Everyone has a colour palette and a style that flatters them. After the year we’ve all had maybe it’s time for a refresh. If so, you want someone that knows shape, style, colour and where to shop. Sometimes we need someone to encourage us to leave that safe but boring black behind,  as well as those old favourites that haven’t fitted for very long time.  Johanna always looks amazing and embraces colour fearlessly. But, she points out, she embraces the colours that suit her best.  Being as approachable as she is stylish, her services can take the headache out of getting the right outfit(s) to suit you. Often we dress for who we were rather than who we are now. Our circumstances change and it can be hard to know how to incorporate our new life into our old wardrobes. Personal branding and styling is not just for the rich and famous. It’s for helping you make change easy.  One of the biggest benefits is it helps us navigate the fashion fads so we have a wardrobe that works for us and avoids the expensive mistakes and the wasted time and energy in our lives. Parting company with some of your mistakes or “I will fit back into those “ will be an added bonus.  Once you know what suits you and what colours enhance your appearance rather than detract from it, life becomes simpler. You save money and time. Everything in your wardrobe works together. You have that rare commodity of self confidence being reflected in who you are and what you look like, as well as what you do.  You are worth the investment it takes to look and feel your best. To have more confidence and to save time and money, it’s a no-brainer to contact styleme@johanna-may.co.nz to find out more.  It’s money well spent…on you..and that’s an investment worth making. Listen in!

As we know, the travel industry pretty much disappeared last year and has yet to get back on it’s feet. I’m very pleased to say 2020 has not stopped Cindy’s enthusiasm for what she does. She has rebranded and really owns her expertise as an elite travel consultant. After more than 20 years in the industry, Cindy is very knowledgable about what she does and what is available to her clients through her extensive network and affiliates and passionate about the difference she can make. She has totally changed my view on DIY travel we do with third party apps. We all know how time consuming it can be, and we don’t have the full picture. In fact you don’t know what you are missing out on, but Cindy does! As she says you might get the ingredients but you don’t have the recipe. And, you’re probably not saving any money at the end of the day. Cindy set some big goals for herself last year and despite everything, decided she didn’t want to lose sight of those. She’s refocused and readjusted her goals to cope with the obstacles that have been thrown her way. How she has been able to do that can’t have been easy, and she shares how she has got through a very challenging time. She may be the catalyst for a monthly book report as she surrounds herself with inspiring women in the form of biographies that she reads. I’ve included the list below incase you too want to be inspired by these women. 2021 is a time to do something a little different and there are so many amazing things to do in our own countries. In today’s episode I had the pleasure of talking to Cathy Mellett from Netbranding.co.nz Founder and CEO of netbranding.co.nz as well as Founder of her charity Imenough.co Cathy talks to us about how to be seen, be heard, be found® online. This is her trademark sentence and it says everything about what her agency does. I’ve known Cathy for many years but often we don’t always talk about what she does as there is so much to talk about with this talented woman we get easily sidetracked. So I was thrilled to talk to her specifically about her work, her charity and her new and upcoming book. I’ve been very impressed with Cathy’s response in her company over this past year, and the responsibility that she feels for her clients. She is in the trenches and talks about what to put in place for moments of lockdowns and an uncertain future as well as how to maximise your presence and business online an help us to ride the waves. Since we are more online than ever before, her company  is a very handy resource to have in your business toolbox.  When we discuss her imenough charity, we hear how it is poised to help parents navigate the pitfalls of a generation that is more online than offline. As Cathy says, we have all these mini influencers putting their own brand into the online space, but she saw how ill- equipped our children are to cope with the false sense of identity that is created in this space. Coming from the background of having a digital and strategic agency she knows both sides of what faces our children in this digital age. It isn’t all bad, but the rising tide of anxiety is real. If you have ever wanted to help your child navigate the gloss of the internet vs the reality of life, look up this charity.imenough.co. “We are possibly building one of the most connected yet disconnected generation” Cathy Mellett This episode was meant to come out prior to their fundraising initiative, which Cathy talks so beautifully about, so I know that Cathy will be happy to talk to you about how they can help you. This is an amazing initiative and in my opinion they need more funding. if you or someone you know is interested in hearing more about this, please contact imenough.co and talk to Cathy or her CEO Sylvia at this link  If you need help with your business’s online presence contact Cathy and her team here: Netbranding

Having 30 books under your belt is an incredible feat even without the challenges of being legally blind.  Since been told no by a publishing house she is now an expert on self publishing and shares why it’s better to put out more books than less in a series.  With an imagination that could make us blush…yes we talked about some of the scenes that do make it into her books and how she writes them. The answers may surprise you but I had to ask the question (on your behalf of course!)  What’s next is a book about bullying…due out on May 17. In Steff’s own words “Only freaks turn things into bones” will help kids remember to celebrate the fact that they are different and unique and that bullies don’t get to define who they are or what they want to be”. Make sure you check out her website at https://steffgreen.com/ Thank you so much for joining me Steff!
