Every event, service, and activity here at Southland Christian Ministries is centered around the ministry of preaching. The Bible is lifted up in this place and on this podcast. Enjoy!

We were extremely privileged to have Jan Bradford speak to the ladies at our recent mother/daughter retreat. Centered around the powerful theme of Victorious Christian Living, this weekend was filled with encouragement, truth, and practical wisdom from God's Word. In this special episode, we revisit highlights from Jan's messages as she challenged and inspired us to live in the victory Christ has already won. Whether you were there in person or couldn't make it, it is our prayer that you will be encouraged in your Christian life, and hopefully you will plan to join us next year our mother/daughter retreat.

The book of Proverbs has much to say about wisdom and our desperate need for it, and if Solomon, the wisest man to ever live, desired more wisdom, then we need it more. God's wisdom is freely given to us in His word, it is our responsibility to get it.
Joshua 24:15 says, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” The commitment to serving the Lord is one of the greatest commitments that you could make in your lifetime, and it is one that will have a lasting impact on your family for generations. As we grow in our marriages and teach our children to walk with God, the commitment to serve the Lord starts with us.
In this session, Mark and AMy Herbster answer questions on Marriage and balancing spouse and children.
Waiting is one of the hardest things that we must do as Christians, yet God commands us to wait on Him. It can be hard to wait on God and not become discouraged, yet He calls us to wait. In this session, Amy Herbster talks with wives about waiting on God and eventhough it is often hard, it is always worth it.
One of the biblical roles of men is to serve as the spiritual leader of their families—a responsibility that has been largely lost in today's culture. We are calling on all men to rise up as godly leaders, guiding their homes with faith, humility, and perseverance in following God. This calling stands in direct contrast to the messages of the world, but it is not the world's opinion that matters; it is God's. He has called men to be men of the Word.
It was our privilege to have Dr. Mark Herbster speak at our couples' retreat at the end of February. Dr. Herbster and his wife, Amy, are no strangers to Southland, having ministered at the camp for various teen camps and retreats. He is also the twin brother of Mike Herbster, the Director of Southland Christian Ministries.Dr. Herbster has served as an evangelist, the Dean of the Seminary at Maranatha Baptist University, and most recently, he accepted the position of Family Pastor at Faith Baptist Church in Taylors, SC.It is our prayer that these sessions minister to your heart and strengthen your marriage as a result.
In 1 Peter 3:7-9, Peter calls husbands and wives to honor one another as heirs together of the grace of life. What does it mean to live in unity, showing love, understanding, and blessing—even in the face of difficulties?
Ephesians 5:21, “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” What does biblical submission really mean, and how does it impact our relationships? Too often, submission is misunderstood as weakness, but Scripture presents it as an act of love, humility, and mutual respect. Pastor Zacharias discusses how this principle applies to friendships, church life, and everyday interactions, but specifically in our marriages.
Genesis 2:24 is a foundational verse on marriage and unity: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” What does it truly mean to become one flesh? How does this biblical principle shape the way we view marriage, commitment, and God's design for relationships?
Jonah 4 describes Jonah's anger toward God and reveals the dangerous progression of a bitter heart. Instead of rejoicing in Nineveh's repentance, Jonah resents God's mercy, allowing his frustration to snowball into self-pity and stubbornness. How does unchecked anger affect our relationship with God and others? What can we learn from Jonah's struggle with resentment?
Matthew 4:1 says, “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.” Before beginning His ministry, Jesus faced intense temptation, yet He emerged victorious. What can we learn from His response to trials? Are we living as victims of our circumstances or as victors through Christ?
In Hebrews 3:13, the author says, “But exhort one another daily, while it is called to day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” Sin has a way of creeping into our hearts, slowly hardening us to the truth and pulling us away from God. But Scripture calls us to encourage one another daily, fighting against sin's deceptive grip.
In Job 42:2, Job declares, “I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.” After enduring immense suffering and questioning, Job reaches a powerful realization—God's plans are unstoppable, and His sovereignty is unshakable. Join us as we unpack the significance of trusting in God's perfect will, even when life feels uncertain. How does this truth impact our faith, our struggles, and our daily walk with Him?
In Thessalonians 5:21-23, Paul urges believers to test everything, hold on to what is good, and stay away from evil. In a world filled with distractions and mixed messages, how do we discern what is truly good? And once we find it, how do we cling to it? It's time to stand firm, seek holiness, and hold on to the good!
2 Kings 5:1-14 gives us the account of Naaman, a powerful commander who had to learn a humbling lesson about obedience and faith. Naaman expected a grand miracle, but God's healing came in an unexpected way—through simple obedience to His instructions. How often do we, like Naaman, let our pride, expectations, or doubts get in the way of what God is doing?
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 is a powerful passage that calls us to rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances. But how do we live out this calling when life is filled with challenges, disappointments, and uncertainty? The key lies in adopting a heavenly perspective—seeing our lives through the lens of eternity and trusting that God is always at work. When we fix our eyes on Him, joy becomes more than just a fleeting emotion, prayer becomes our lifeline, and gratitude transforms our hearts.
2 Kings 4:1-7 describes the account of a desperate widow, an empty jar, and a miraculous outpouring of God's provision. When the widow cried out to Elisha for help, she had nothing—except a little oil. But God used what she had, multiplied it beyond imagination, and met her every need. How often do we come to God feeling empty, unprepared, or insufficient? Yet, just like the widow, He calls us to bring what we have—no matter how small—and trust Him to do the rest.
Often, we may question why our attitude toward spiritual matters is not what it should be, yet we hesitate to acknowledge that the issue lies within our hearts. To cultivate a proper attitude, we must first examine our hearts to determine where our focus truly lies. Is your heart centered on your own desires, or is it fixed on the Lord?
In life, we are often faced with a choice: to live in a way that pleases God or to live in pursuit of our own desires and the approval of the world. Scripture makes it clear that we cannot serve both God and the world, yet many Christians attempt to do so. We must make a deliberate decision—to fully surrender our lives to God or to submit to the fleeting pleasures of this world.
As human beings, we possess a sinful nature that inclines us toward selfishness, stubbornness, and resistance to change. Consequently, many of us need God to break our hearts, leading us to acknowledge and accept our dependence on Him. In the summer of 2024, Michael Jones delivered a sermon to teenagers on the topic of a broken heart. We pray that after listening to this message, you will become aware of areas in your own life where you may be resisting God.
In the summer of 2024, we had the privilege of hosting Pastor Jason Gaddis, who delivered a compelling message titled “Living a Perplexing Life” to our teenage campers. In this sermon, Pastor Gaddis challenged the youth to lead lives burdened for the lost, thereby making a significant impact for the cause of Christ.
We had the privilege of welcoming Evangelist Matt Galvan to speak to the young people at our 2024 Teen Winter Retreat. The retreat focused on encouraging us to embrace God's plan and allow Him to use their lives in whatever way He deems best. Brother Matt, a seasoned evangelist and long-time friend of Southland, shared a powerful message centered on surrendering our lives and all that we have to God's purposes. We trust that this message will inspire and strengthen you as you deepen your relationship with Christ and commit your ways to Him.
