After a wildfire is put out, there's another risk that develops, one that's far more deadly than the fire itself: rain. While water might seem like nature's remedy for parched and fire-ravaged landscapes, heavy rainfall can trigger catastrophic mudslides and flash floods in burned areas. That's because the fire has destroyed the plants and trees whose roots help stabilize the ground. Without living plants, hillsides pummeled with rain become fast-moving slurries that can carry boulders and move at terrifying speeds of over 35 mph. These debris flows can wash out highways and roads, carry cars away with ease, and destroy buildings in their path. This week, Emily welcomes Dr. J.J. Gourley, Research Hydrometeorologist at NOAA's National Severe Storms Laboratory, to discuss how scientists are utilizing lifesaving NOAA technology to predict these post-wildfire hazards. Tune in to learn what communities need to know to stay safe when the flames are extinguished but the danger isn't over.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

For our final Walk Talks episode of the year, we're excited to bring you a special Friday Focus edition! As you may have seen in the artwork and title, this episode is a bit unique—we have two guest speakers joining us.Just a couple of weeks ago, we hosted our first-ever Pastors and Youth Workers Conference here at Southland Christian Camp. It was a great success, and for this final Friday Focus episode, we're sharing a Q&A session from the last day of that conference. The conversation features Pastor Ken Keltner, who serves in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Chuck Gourley, the youth pastor at Campus Church in Pensacola, Florida. My dad, Brother Mike Herbster, sat down with both of them in front of our conference attendees to ask some thoughtful questions about youth ministry.Whether you're a pastor, youth pastor, youth leader, or even a teenager involved in youth ministry, we believe this episode will be both helpful and encouraging. It offers valuable insight into youth ministry philosophy—whether you're planning to serve full-time in ministry or simply want to understand the “why” behind what you do.We hope you'll take the time to listen, be encouraged, and be challenged by the wisdom shared by Pastor Ken Keltner and Chuck Gourley. We have attached a link to all the session recordings from our Pastor's and Youth Worker's Conference and we would highly encourage you to go and listen to them, and maybe they can be an encouragement to you.https://www.southlandcamp.org/sermons-from-southland.html

You've probably heard about hydrogen water, electrolyte water, or structured water… But none of them come close to what Rob Gourley discovered. We're talking about a fifth phase of water that doesn't just hydrate you—it energizes your cells, grounds your body, boosts oxygen at the cellular level, and helps flush out toxins with zero stress on your kidneys. Rob Gourley is the mechanical engineer behind Watt-Ahh®, an oxygen- and hydrogen-infused water charged with electrons and powered by a gas he created called di-tetra gas. It has got a massive electron load and delivers pure bioenergetic support to your mitochondria. In this episode, Rob explains how this supercharged water works on a cellular level to raise voltage, drive detox, and replenish the body's actual energy currency—not sugar or fat, but oxygen loaded with electrons. He also shares the story behind creating the WIT machine, a breakthrough device now being used to reverse eye damage, neurological disorders, and circulation issues without pharmaceuticals or surgery. You'll never look at water the same way again. "Watt-Ahh® is probably the simplest, most efficient way to help your body deal with toxins in the environment. It's like a little red wagon—it carries nutrients in and carries the garbage out." ~ Rob Gourley In This Episode: - What is Watt-Ahh®? - How it delivers hydrogen and oxygen - Dentist's story: reversing extreme mercury toxicity - Vision restoration with WIT gas infusion and eye healing - Nerve damage repair and diabetic limb salvage with Watt-Ahh® - Applications of Watt-Ahh water - How Watt-Ahh® aids dementia and Parkinson's patients - Cellular Health: how Watt-Ahh enhances cell function - Lymphatic drainage improvement for better detoxification - Increasing nutrient absorption with Watt-Ahh - Recommendations for daily Watt-Ahh® consumption For more information, visit https://www.myersdetox.com Heavy Metals Quiz: Find out your toxicity score and receive a free video series on detoxification. In this episode of the OODAcast, Bob Gourley sits down with Brandon Jones, CEO of Throughline, to explore his career journey, the importance of liberal arts in technology, and the innovative work of Throughline. The conversation highlights the value of a diverse educational background and the pivotal role of communication and storytelling in driving organizational success. Brandon Jones shares his foundational story, emphasizing the impact of his time at St. Mary's College in Maryland, where he graduated with a computer science degree while also engaging deeply with liberal arts. His experience playing basketball and becoming the all-time leading scorer for men's basketball at St. Mary's taught him valuable lessons in teamwork and decision-making. This liberal arts background fostered a creative spark that later influenced his leadership style. Jones and Gourley discuss the importance of blending science and liberal arts education. Jones highlights the critical thinking skills developed through studying philosophy and other liberal arts subjects. He emphasizes the need for understanding problems deeply before jumping to solutions, a principle that has guided his career and approach to leadership. After graduating, Jones began his career at Electronic Data Systems (EDS), where he worked on the Navy Marine Corps Internet at the Pentagon. This role exposed him to high-level operations and decision-making within the Navy. His transition to public service came when he joined the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC), where he ultimately served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO). As the CIO of NAVFAC, Jones faced numerous challenges, including cybersecurity threats and the need for application rationalization. He successfully reduced the number of applications from 3,000 to 200 and secured significant funding to enhance cybersecurity for naval facilities. His proactive approach and ability to communicate complex issues through compelling storytelling were crucial in achieving these milestones. Jones underscores the importance of storytelling in leadership. At NAVFAC, he used visual storytelling to convey the critical need for cybersecurity measures, which resulted in securing $100 million in funding and 100 full-time equivalents (FTEs) for cybersecurity efforts. This approach demonstrated the power of combining technical expertise with effective communication. Throughline, an enterprise design and strategy firm, blends creative agency capabilities with management consulting. Jones describes Throughline as the “Amazon of Storytelling,” helping organizations communicate their strategies, visualize progress, and align talent with organizational goals. The firm's mission is to help human beings win, leading to organizational success. Jones acknowledges the competitive landscape but emphasizes Throughline's unique approach, rooted in a blend of IT and creative expertise. He highlights the importance of continuous learning, both personally and for his team. Jones reads extensively and invests in professional development to stay ahead in a rapidly evolving industry. The conversation also touches on the future of space exploration and technology, drawing on insights from Dr. Thomas PM Barnett's book, “America's New Map.” Jones discusses the importance of understanding global trends and taking strategic actions to build a desirable future. Throughline's collaboration on the book exemplifies their commitment to shaping the future through innovative thinking and strategic foresight. Brandon Jones' journey from a liberal arts college to leading Throughline demonstrates the value of a diverse educational background, the power of storytelling in leadership, and the importance of continuous learning. His insights provide valuable lessons for leaders and organizations navigating the complexities of today's technological landscape. Connect with Brandon on LinkedIn. For most people, it takes a little time to figure out what you want to do. For Major General Craig Gourley, he hit upon his path when he was just six years old. It helped that his father was a chemist in the Air Force, which exposed Gourley to the path his life would take. While on Edwards Air Force Base in California, Craig was exposed to the latest in flight technology, and his passion for spreading his wings was born. From elementary school to junior high to high school to the Air Force Academy, he stayed en route to realizing his dreams. From there, he went on to a successful career as Inspector General of the Air Force while also serving as a commercial pilot for Delta Airlines. Along the way, he picked up a few stories to tell, including about how he landed in Northwest Arkansas and began working with Game Composites, an experimental aircraft company that's poised to take change the way we think about aviation. Gourley was kind enough to exchange some of the value he's achieved in his life to provide value to our show and treat listeners to a tale that most of us only dreamed of achieving back when we were playing with Hot Wheels. If you enjoy, feel free to pay it forward and contact us with any value you might have to offer. As always, Cookin' Up a Story with Aaron and Joes is all about value for value and we appreciate anything you have to offer.
We are God's beloved children and should live His love more deeply everyday.
Welcome to another episode of The Tarot Table. My guest today, Shauna Gourley, represents the Death Tarot card. The Death card in tarot does not represent literal physical death. Instead, it symbolizes transformation, endings, and new beginnings. It signifies the end of a phase or a situation in your life and the start of something new. The Death card encourages you to let go of the old and embrace change. It can also represent the need for personal growth and the shedding of old beliefs or patterns that no longer serve you. This card is often associated with transformation, rebirth, and the opportunity for positive change. It reminds you that sometimes endings are necessary for new and better things to come into your life.Let's talk about Shauna Gourley, who represents the Death card on many levels. Shauna's Transformative JourneyShauna's journey into the healing arts is not uncommon. After having her second child at 39, she never fully recovered. By the time she was 41, she was navigating through what she can only describe as "hormone hell," alongside the trauma of being gaslit by physicians who made her feel as if the symptoms were all in her head.Sleepless nights and anxiety-filled days had her searching for answers, which, under the current system, were limited to prescriptions of antidepressant meds, sleep meds, and a host of misdiagnoses like IBS, fibromyalgia, and "PMS B***h."Frustrated, she took her health into her own hands and returned to school. Over the last 13 years, she has been certified in holistic nutrition, functional diagnostic nutrition, clinical methylation, and nutrigenomics, as well as human potential coaching. She eventually got to the bottom of her physical health challenges, which turned out to be a very sick thyroid and the sex hormone profile of a 90-year-old woman. It was also during this time that her 16-year marriage dissolved, and she was thrust into her new identity as an unsupported, single mother. After much self-reflection and research, Shauna also discovered she was an empath and tended to attract narcissistic personality types.During that time, she went through the Dark Night of the Soul. This series of adversities, however, led her on a profound spiritual journey and, ultimately, to the healing power of plant medicine. In 2018, she flew to Costa Rica, where she legally and safely participated in four shaman-led plant medicine ceremonies. While she could speak about this transformative experience for hours, the short story is that this master of plant medicine confirmed to her that she was more than her physical body. "She" also showed her from where she came to where she would return, purging past traumas and healing her broken heart.Alongside her ongoing healing with functional medicine, she tried other plant medicines, and in 2022, she was guided to complete her training in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy. This advanced training has given her the profound privilege of providing a safe space for people to experience their inner healing and assist them in integrating the deep work with these medicines into their daily lives.Wellness, and ultimately wholeness, is a journey, and it is her heartfelt intention to provide the opportunity for people to find their medicine. Whether you're looking for functional lab testing and personalized protocols and coaching to start healing your physical body, or you're ready to take a deep dive into the inner workings of your subconscious mind, or maybe a combination of both (magical), it is her honor to be your guide. You can reach Shauna Gourley at https://shaunagourley.com. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got the frontman for a band that recently made a welcome return after a long absence, and the producer who helped him find the sounds and songs to do it: John Gourley and Jeff Bhasker. Gourley is the singer for Portugal. The Man, which started making music in their home state of Alaska back in the early 2000s before finding success and relocating to Portland, Oregon. The band has an impressive catalog that runs the pop gamut, and weirdly they hit it huge pretty deep into their career, with the 2017 song “Feel It Still,” which is still on pop radio six years later. Just this year, PTM finally released a new album, called Chris Black Changed My Life, which both mourns and celebrates the band's close friend, for whom it's also named. The album was also partly inspired by the daughter of Gourley and his bandmate Zoe Manville; Frances Gourley has a rare genetic disorder that's touched on in this chat. But the album and Gourley's story is by no means grim: He's all about celebrating life, as you'll hear on this track, “Summer of Luv,” which features some assistance from another recent Talkhouse guest, Unknown Mortal Orchestra. You'll also hear the fingerprints of producer Jeff Bhasker on that track. Bhasker is best known for co-writing and co-producing smash hits like Kanye West's 808s and Heartbreak and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Mark Ronson's “Uptown Funk.” He's one of several names that Portugal. The Man brought in to help realize Chris Black Changed My Life. The two talk about how that process worked, and in particular how Gourley is—unlike some songwriters—always happy to have more creative voices in the room. They also chat about which of them is a better singer, about playing at the Hollywood Bowl, about Gourley's life-changing jaw injury, and about Gourley's daughter Frances and the challenges they face. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to John Gourley and Jeff Bhasker for chatting. This episode was produced by Myron Kaplan, and the Talkhouse theme is composed and performed by the Range. See you next time!

Billie Eilish and FINNEAS feel really excited and dubious, respectively, about being Conan O'Brien's friends. Billie and FINNEAS sit down with Conan to discuss skyrocketing to worldwide fame at an early age, growing up seeing themselves all over the internet, favorite instruments, and their documentary Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry. Later, Adam Sachs stops by to drop some info about Gourley's new high-concept podcast.
Actor Luke Wilson feels that, on the advice of his counsel, it's best that he agree to be clear about being Conan O'Brien's friend. Luke sits down with Conan to chat about interacting with the pioneers of his craft, mastering his put-upon film persona, taking inspiration from MAD Magazine, and more. Later, Gourley mourns how the tragic power of the podcast has ruined a small part of his life. Got a question for Conan? Call our voicemail: (323) 451-2821.
