The personal stories of Ugandans around the world are shared.
When I visited Uganda in 2009 the Principal and Teachers were meeting abouttheir 5 year plan in the old music room. I surprised them and was so pleased to meet them. They were in the middle of figuring out how to contact their Alumni , the old girls and boys.It costs $70 to send a child to school there, including lunches , unforms and books. This is an investment in future generations. Hope you will consider helping. More than 80,000 asian refugess leaving Uganda in 1972 in 90 days. Where did they go? My Uncle Sikunder Umedaly tells stories I have never heard before about his work and the last days in Uganda
He had just started working for the foreign service. The Canadian team came to Uganda bringing 2 large Candian flags. They set up at the IPS building and in 7 days were ready to process the applications. 8,000 family applications wre taken and on day 3 they had 4,500 returned applications.Listen to the story of an amazing Canadian team that we still admire today. Many of them have gone on to careers in teh forgein service. To think in 1962 Canada had a colour barrier in its immigration history and by 1967 a point system had been established. These refugees were processed under the "oppressed minority" category and settled in Canada as refugeesThanks Mike for this great interview.

Staying with my family in Runda we went to a vacant lot behind some beautiful houses and joined in a Christmas celebration with Kenyans. Swahili for the first time in over 2o years. I loved hearing that!It made me think about my Ugandan friends and all the other children I went to school with and how I never gotto say goodbye to them in 1972.Christmas in Kenya after 20 years away from Africa. Plus a moment of the Indian Ocean at sun rise- I love Mobasa so much. I was staying at my Family's resort called Shaanti. It is heaven on earth.
