In aviation, the most transformative breakthroughs often take place far above the commercial flight lanes, and far below the public radar. But in today's defense and aerospace economy, those breakthroughs are harder than ever for small companies to bring to life. Government budgets overwhelmingly favor the largest primes. Smaller, more agile innovators are forced to bankroll their own R&D while competing against firms with deeper pockets, stronger political clout, and guaranteed contracts. Venture-style “build-to-flip” incentives tempt some to chase quick exits over long-term quality. Even when technology works, commercial adoption can stall as customers demand bespoke designs for each use case. Swift Engineering's record-breaking high-altitude glider is one such breakthrough fighting its way through that gauntlet. Designed to fly at 67,000 feet for days at a time, this ultra-light, solar-powered aircraft can do what satellites can't: hold a fixed position, deliver real-time intelligence, and land on a runway. At just 1% of the cost. For Hamed Khalkhali, Swift's president, the innovation story isn't just about engineering excellence. It's about surviving and thriving in a system that often seems built for incumbents. In this conversation, he unpacks the strategic, funding, and talent challenges that determine which companies survive in the next wave of aerospace innovation. You'll also learn: High-altitude, solar UAV that outperforms satellites at 1% of the cost. Why system integration is aerospace's next frontier. The funding squeeze forcing small firms to self-finance R&D. The “moral accuracy” gap shaping U.S. drone strategy. How fresh grads can drive bigger breakthroughs than veterans. Keeping start-up creativity alive in bigger organizations. Guest Bio Hamed Khalkhali is the President of Swift Engineering and an adjunct professor at Cal Poly Pomona, with more than 25 years of experience spanning technical innovation, leadership, and cross-disciplinary communication. He brings over a decade of expertise in system-level design for Fly-by-Wire flight control systems with the highest safety standards (FDAL-A), along with deep knowledge of ARP-4752, DO-160, and DO-178 certification processes. Throughout his career, Hamed has led high-performance engineering organizations, managing teams across mechanical, electrical, verification and validation, manufacturing, AI, machine learning, quality control, supply chain, and R&D. He is known for integrating manufacturing engineering into the earliest stages of design, optimizing products through rigorous processes such as Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen, and design-for-manufacturability. His leadership approach blends technical precision with a focus on systems integration, efficiency, and innovation in both aerospace and defense. Connect with Hamed on LinkedIn. Let's talk about what it really means to take care of yourself—not just on the surface, but deep in your bones. In this episode of Operation Be, I'm joined by Dr. Jason Hamed—a brilliant mind in the world of chiropractic care and functional medicine, and someone who's played a massive role in my own wellness journey. But this isn't just about back pain or posture. It's about the structure that holds you up—physically, emotionally, and energetically. We talk about the hidden ways chronic illness can shape your mindset, and how true healing goes far beyond prescriptions or quick fixes. Dr. Jason shares how intentional care, real connection, and hiring with heart (yes, even in your business) can radically shift the way we operate as leaders, partners, and humans. We also dive into: ✨ The emotional weight behind physical pain ✨ How your environment either supports or sabotages your healing ✨ What makes a practitioner actually effective ✨ And yes—a hilarious moment where my fiancé decided to “test” Dr. Jason for himself This conversation is a reminder that healing isn't linear. It's layered. And sometimes, the biggest breakthroughs happen when we stop pushing and start listening.

Assad fled, rebels took over, and Syria changed overnight. Intelligence analyst Ryan McBeth maps out who won, who lost, and what's next on Out of the Loop! Welcome to what we're calling our "Out of the Loop" episodes, where we dig a little deeper into fascinating current events that may only register as a blip on the media's news cycle and have conversations with the people who find themselves immersed in them. On This Episode of Out of the Loop: After over a decade of civil war, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fled to Moscow when his regime collapsed following a rapid 10-day offensive at the end of 2024. The collapse was accelerated by Hezbollah withdrawing forces to fight Israel, leaving Assad's already weak army severely undermanned. The new controlling force in Syria is HTS (Hayat Tahrir al-Sham), led by Hamed al-Golani. While HTS was formerly affiliated with Al-Qaeda, they have since distanced themselves and are showing potentially moderate tendencies, focusing on restoring basic services rather than implementing strict religious law. Turkey emerged as a major winner in this scenario, having strategically supported various rebel groups that helped bring down Assad's regime. Meanwhile, Russia and Iran are significant losers - Russia lost important Mediterranean naval access, and Iran lost a crucial supply route to Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Syrian civil war involved over 70 different factions, but they could be broadly categorized into three main anti-Assad groups: Islamist groups (like HTS), Kurdish groups (supported by the US), and moderate opposition groups. This complex web of alliances and conflicts made the situation particularly difficult to resolve. Despite the country's painful history, Syria has immense potential for rebuilding and renewal. The country was historically known for its rich culture, welcoming people, incredible food, and archaeological treasures. The current focus on restoring basic services and apparent willingness of different factions to cooperate suggests that with proper support and governance, Syria could begin healing and rebuilding its vibrant society. Send us a textOn June 30th of 2009, a discovery was made of in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.A vehicle submerged in Kingston Mills Lock, inside was the bodies of 19 year old Zainab, 17 year old Sahar, and 13 year old Geeti, with them was their fathers first wife, 52 year old Rona. It seemed all to have been a horrific accident. That was until, authorities were made aware, that the brother to the three deceased girls, 20 year old Hamed, actually had reported a car accident that he had been in, the same day that his younger sisters were found. When comparing the damage to the Lexus, that Hamed was driving, it was noticed that the Lexus's front end damage, matched up perfectly to the damage on the back of the Nissan Sentra, that his sisters, and stepmother were found in, and it became clear, that the Lexus, had been used to push the Sentra into the lock.....but why? This is the honour killing of the Shafia family Support the showIf you're interested in receiving bonus episodes, early release dates, an everything scary sticker and ‘thank you' as well as a shout out on our regular feed! E377 – "Inner Voice: A Heartfelt Chat with Dr. Foojan Zeine." In this episode, Dr. Foojan Zeine chats with Hamed Farmand, whose mother was incarcerated for five years when he was six, and is the founder and president of Children of Imprisoned Parents International (COIPI). He studied the fundamentals of psychology at NOVA College and, under the mentorship of Dr. Shervin Assari, gained a deep understanding of the psychological impact of parental incarceration on children. Hamed serves as a board member of the International Coalition for Children with Incarcerated Parents (INCCIP) and is a member of the Global Prison Nursery Network, where he shares his research on children living with their mothers in Iranian prisons. Hamed has earned several prestigious certifications, including “Child Protection: Children's Rights in Theory and Practice” from Harvard University, a MicroMasters in “Social Work, Practice, Policy, and Research” from the University of Michigan, and a certificate in “Resilience in Children Exposed to Trauma, Disaster, and War” from the University of Minnesota. He is also certified in “Advocating Social Justice and Change” from the University of Adelaide. Dr. and Hamed discussed the profound impact of parental incarceration on children, drawing from Hamed's personal experience and research. Hamed shared how his mother's five-year imprisonment shaped his life and emphasized the need for society, caregivers, and parents to better support children in similar situations. He highlighted the trauma, stigma, and lack of resources that these children face and advocated for open, honest conversations to build trust and resilience. They addressed the importance of providing mental health support for incarcerated individuals and their families, particularly focusing on the role of education, access to services, and reducing stigma. Hamed discussed systemic issues like poverty and gender inequality, noting the link between incarceration and socio-economic challenges. He also emphasized the need for community involvement in supporting these children and preventing trauma from being passed down to future generations. The conversation touched on coping mechanisms children develop due to parental absence, the role of community support, and how dissociation or overachievement can be common reactions to their circumstances. Both speakers stressed the importance of addressing trauma, providing mentorship, and promoting resilience in children affected by parental incarceration. Hamed concluded by discussing his organization's efforts in education, services, and research to support these children globally. 20 Best California Mental Health Podcasts https://podcasts.feedspot.com/california_mental_health_podcasts/ Check out my website: www.FoojanZeine.com, www.AwarenessIntegration.com, www.Foojan.com Remember to Subscribe, Listen, Review, and Share! Habibi Festival is back for another year at Joe's Pub, bringing Arabs, comrades, and lovers of music together in New York in these difficult times that our nations continue to endure. And for another year, afikra was on stage to speak to the musicians and bring their conversations and performances to you on afikra's Quartertones podcast.Who better to kick off the season with than the one and only Iraqi-Canadian rapper, writer and teacher Narcy who's been – for decades – making music about the atrocities and racism that the Arab region and people have endured. Narcy calls on his friends and peers Hamed Sinno, Nadine El Roubi, Omar Offendum & Niko to join him on stage in an evening filled with poetry, music and solidarity. Narcy shares his journey of grieving the Iraq War and the blessing and importance of community in the ongoing healing process. He also discusses cultural production as a form of resistance, reflecting on when to be silent, when to be loud, and when to amplify one's voice in protest. It was an exciting card in Quebec, Canada, as super middleweight rising star Christian Mbilli dominated Sergey Derevyanchenko to remain unbeaten and their was an upset in the heavyweight co-feature. We go over the fights, have some interesting fight news and Nigel Benn and Prince Naseem Hamed are part of the nostalgia this week on the "Fight Freaks Unite Recap Podcast!"Host T.J. Rives is back with insider Dan Rafael of his Fight Freaks Unite Substack and Newsletter.First, they talk Mbilli's impressive showing in a 10 round decision over the vet from Ukraine. But, more so, why did Derevyanchenko's corner fail to save him in the final couple of rounds of the fight from the beating and obvious loss he was facing. You'll want to hear the ranting. Then, they talk Guido Vianello's upset of Arslanbek Makhmudov by 8th round TKO in the co-feature, as Makhmudov suffered a gruesomely swollen left eye early in the fight and Vianello pounded him into the doctor and ref calling a halt to the bout. Also, what's the next step for Vianello? Dan also gives his take on Top Rank rising lighweight Abdullah Mason who was also on the Canada card. They, then turn to fight news and the harsh update of Luis Alberto Lopez suffering a more significant brain injury by the KO loss to Angelo Leo for the IBF featherweight crown last Saturday night in New Mexico. Dan has more on that situation. And, then he is perplexed by why the IBF is apparently going to make Jaron "Boots" Ennis fight Karen Chukhadzhian again, a litte over a year and a half since Ennis wiped him out. It's insanity and you'll be entertained. Finally, there's some great nostalgia on "The Dark Destroyer" Nigel Benn winning a huge, brief title fight in Las Vegas on U.S. network TV over Iran Barkley nearly 34 years ago. And, Dan was ringside in 2000 for Prince Naseem Hamed with a big KO defense on an HBO main event. He has rememberances. It's all part of the "Fight Freaks Unite Recap Podcast" and make sure to follow/subscribe to this podcast feed on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.

Today is a great day because today I got to sit down with my friend, Hamed. There are so many things that I love about this guys but–above all others–Hamed is relentless. In another life, I'm sure he was a prolific restaurateur. In this life, he's a technologist and an entrepreneur working to solve the foundational issues within our industry. Today we sit down to discuss how he's building a POS system built to put me out of business. I teach restaurant marketing, Hamed's Milagro point of sales has mastered marketing. We dig deep to discuss why he felt the need to build Milagro and why he's chosen to give it away for free to restaurants. Episode 328: On June 30, 2009, the serene waters of the Rideau Canal in Kingston, Ontario, revealed a dark and tragic secret. A submerged car discovered that day contained the bodies of three teenage sisters—Zainab (19), Sahar (17), and Geeti (13) Shafia—along with their father's first wife, Rona Muhammad Amir (52). Hamed's track record of success and commitment to fostering entrepreneurship make him a key player in shaping the startup ecosystem. (concise bio courtesy of ChatGPT). In today's episode, we start with Ali's origin story, starting with his time as a baseball player and agriculture major at Cornell, and what led to him eventually saying the internet was his major in college (which you will see on his LinkedIn profile). I have witnessed Ali's differentiated view on investing in person and have enjoyed listening to his firm's approach, which in some cases, they are 1 of 1 in their space. We discuss whether it is better to have capital or a good investment idea first, the democratization of private market investing, funding YouTube creators, and more. He discusses how, using a network he built from his days with the electrical engineering students at Sharif University, he successfully assembled a cohesive team. During his time pursuing further education in Canada and subsequently seeking investment in Silicon Valley, the idea of launching a platform—which was also the subject of his PhD thesis—came to him. Ultimately, he managed to secure initial funding for his idea in New York within just half an hour, allowing him to return to Iran and kickstart his venture====================[Hamed Tajedin]https://www.linkedin.com/in/hamed-tajedin-99ab4149====================[حامیان این قسمت | Sponsors]خدمات رایانش ابری - لیاراhttps://liara.ir====================[Sound Channels]Castbox https://castbox.fm/channel/id3083907Spotify https://spoti.fi/2CiyRoH ====================[soh3il]https://www.linkedin.com/in/soh3il/https://www.instagram.com/soh3il====================[tabaghe16]Everywhere else https://linktr.ee/tabaghe16====================#پادکست #طبقه۱۶ Hosted on Acast. John is joined by Dr. Hamed Merah, Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA) and Nasser Alrubayyi, Managing Partner of Quinn Emanuel office Riyadh. They discuss commercial arbitration in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the recent impact of the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration. Dr. Hamed explains SCCA's mission to establish a world class center with full case management services where foreign parties will feel comfortable submitting their disputes to a diverse roster of accomplished, impartial independent arbitrators. Although almost half of the SCCA's caseload is construction related, it also adjudicates cases involving banking, capital markets, intellectual property, media, and the pharmaceutical industry. They discuss how legislation in the last five years has removed restrictions on Saudi governmental entities submitting disputes to arbitration to the point that arbitration with the SCCA is now the default option in contracts between governmental entities and foreign parties. Nasser explains that parties are increasingly moving from ad hoc stand-alone arbitration procedures to institutional arbitration through the SCCA because the SCCA is the quicker and more cost efficient option. Dr Hamed also describes a recent study concluding that more than 90% of the SCCA's awards have been upheld when challenged in annulment proceedings. Finally, they discuss how arbitration with the SCCA is becoming more popular in technical cases, IP cases and construction disputes.Podcast Link: Law-disrupted.fmHost: John B.
