The story so far: Three friends are trapped in an underground movie rental store managed by a magical anthropomorphic mole man, have adventures, and watch movies to pass the time and figure ways out of predicaments. This week, we deal with the mental and emotional consequences of our time travel actions. Knowing we're in the presence of some sort of evil cult, we dive into Enter the Devil (1972) to try to learn more about it! For a movie on the video nasties list, it's lacking in a lot of areas, but we talk about it and only veer off topic occasionally to discuss monkey bones, The DEER Hunter, cults of compliments, and stripping train conductors. Leave us a 30 second voicemail and if we like it we'll play it on the show: (949) 4-STABBY (949-478-2229)Next movie announced every Wednesday.

In this Special, Charlie Brown neither runs for office nor is or isn't elected. But the satirical pleasures abound otherwise in this still-incisive takedown of political and campaign mores and realities. As ever, the incredible music of Vince Guaraldi and his Trio provide accompaniment.  Musings range far and wide in this episode.  Thank you for listening for 200 episodes!

“In this world of guns and knives, wherever Tang Lung may go to, he will always travel on his own.”Bruce Lee's One-and-Done Showcase of Martial Arts MasteryIn 1972, Bruce Lee was already a rising star in the martial arts film world, having starred in a handful of successful films. However, he had yet to have the opportunity to fully showcase his unparalleled fighting skills on his own terms. That all changed with The Way of the Dragon, a film that allowed Lee to demonstrate his incredible martial arts prowess while also taking on the roles of writer, director, and producer. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue the One-and-Done series with a conversation about The Way of the Dragon.Exploring the Comedic Side of Kung Fu and the Legendary Bruce LeeIn our discussion, we delve into the humor infused throughout The Way of the Dragon, from the situational comedy to Bruce Lee's character-driven gags. While the film's comedic elements may not land for everyone, they provide an intriguing glimpse into the lighter side of the kung fu genre. We also examine Bruce Lee's importance to the world of martial arts cinema and how his unique style and charisma helped popularize the genre on a global scale. The Way of the Dragon may not be a perfect film, but it stands as a testament to Bruce Lee's immense talent and enduring legacy. Kevan Furbank is the author of 1972: When Progressive Rock Ruled The World. The year 1972 was when Progressive Rock came of age, when bands and artists still revered today produced some of their most ground-breaking, inventive, and enduring musical creations. Furbank looks at some of the artists and albums that made 1972 such a watershed in musical achievement. He follows their development from the first tentative notes and chords to the full-blown recordings that, more than 50 years later, are still seen as the masterpieces of the genre, and the gold standard by which all Progressive Rock is judged. Ready to go on a musical voyage back to 1972?  Scott, Mark and Lou are your guides on this journey through the sounds of a remarkable year. Join us as we reminisce about the legendary albums that set the tone for the year - from Led Zeppelin 4 to Tapestry and everything in between. We don't stop there; we explore how generational differences shape our appreciation for these timeless classics. And, for a fun twist, we bring in a dash of humor with Cheech and Chong skits, and discuss how the hit show Supernatural is a masterclass in mixing and deviating from storylines. As we navigate the diverse soundscape of 1972, we dive into the events that shaped the music world then. Elvis Presley Boulevard, Pink Floyd's Dockside of the Moon, a jam session with Chuck Berry and Keith Richards, and the debut of Paul McCartney's new band, Wings, all feature in our nostalgic tour. Beyond the music, we also tip our hats to the 1972 cinema world, with peculiar gems like Vampire Circus and Dr. Phibes Rides Again, and iconic Westerns like The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. The trip down memory lane doesn't stop there. We reflect on some of the standout albums of the year, from the brooding Black Sabbath's Volume 4 to the introspective musings of Cat Stevens' Teaser and the Fire Cat. We recall the electrifying performances of legends like Miles Davis and Mick Jagger, and the controversies thrown up by the Electric Light Orchestra's live debut. Plus, we pay homage to some of 1972's biggest hits, such as 'Dr. My Eyes' by Jackson Browne and 'I Hear You Knocking' by Dave Edmunds. So, buckle up and get ready to soak up the incredible music of 1972 with us!

Season Premier! "Take the gun, leave the cannoli." Back in 1972, Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather took it all. Big box office, Academy Awards, and a place on many lists as one of the best films of all time. But now, over 50 years later, does the 3-hour saga give us an offer we "can refuse"? Was Brando's Don Corleone just too sensitive for his own good? Was Diane Keaton's Kay too understanding to be believed? And, why did Michael's eye take several years to heal? The Old Roommates go behind closed doors and discuss it all through their middle-aged lens ... but only this one time. Brad Park has been voted one of the 50 best hockey players of all time. The nine-time All-Star finished second of the Norris Trophy, awarded to the NHL's best defensemen, a record six times, thanks to his one mistake: being born the same year as Bobby Orr, considered the best defenseman of all time. Here he talks about Team Canada coach Harry Sinden, who led the country's first “Dream Team” of NHL All-Stars against the Soviet Union in the 1972 Summit Series.Team Canada was supposed to win every game, but after winning just one game in the first five, plus a tie, Team Canada had to win all three games in Moscow. “We weren't in the kind of shape they were, they played a style of hockey we'd never seen before, and we didn't take them seriously – at first!” Park recalls. But Team Canada discovered they had certain advantages, too: led by Sinden, they were smart enough to adjust, they knew how to handle a long series – unlike the Soviets -- and they created a team spirit where none had existed before during a two-game layover in Sweden, on the way to Moscow. They also had their country behind them. More Canadians watched the last three games in Moscow than the moon landing three years earlier. As Wayne Gretzky told me, “This was more important!Under unprecedented pressure, and with Bobby Orr out with a bad knee for the entire series, Brad Park played some of the best hockey of his life, and Team Canada actually did win all three games, each by a goal, including Paul Henderson's famous game winner with 34 seconds left in the final game.“We learned humility and respect, and how to rely on each other,” Park recalls. “Hey, when it's you against the world, you gotta come together! I'll never forget it – and no one else will, either.”About our Host:For info about the book or this podcast please visit our website:http://www.letthemleadbybacon.comhttp://www.johnubacon.comYou can connect with John via these platforms:https://www.facebook.com/johnubaconhttps://twitter.com/Johnubacon

"Time in a Bottle" Written by Jim Croce Released 1972Producer Renee plays her rendition on Piano.  SING ALONG !Here Are The Lyrics: If I could save time in a bottle,The first thing that I'd like to do,Is to save every day till eternity passes awayJust to spend them with you,If I could makes days last forever,If words could make wishes come true,I'd save every day like a treasure and thenAgain, I would spend them with you,But there never seems to be enough timeTo do the things you want to do once you find them,I've looked around enough to know,That you're the one I want to go through time with.If I had a box just for wishes,And dreams that have never come true,The box would be empty except for the memory,Of how they were answered  you.But there never seems to be enough timeTo do the things you want to do once you find them,I've looked around enough to know,That you're the one I want to go through time with.Time in a bottle......
