Most streets showed signs of damage from the earthquakes with crews tirelessly working to breakdown and clean-up the buildings that were too damaged to repairNyatapola Temple is the highest pagoda style building in Nepal at 5 stories. It was constructed in 1702 and was so well built it withstood the great earthquake of 1934 with only minor damage.  The upper storey was rebuilt after the earthquake. With the most recent earthquakes it has once again managed to survive with only minor damage.The giant chariot that carries Bhairab during the Bisket Jatra was still sitting in the square from the festival held in April this year.The Bhairabhnath Temple when first built in the early 17th century was only a one storey building. King Malla added an extra storey in 1717 and a 3rd storey was added when the temple was rebuilt in 1934 after that year’s massive earthquake. It appeared to have withstood most of the force of the 2015 earthquakes.Tachupal Square was the original central square of Bhaktapur and includes some important temples that again, appeared to have weathered the force of the earthquakes with little damage. Dattatreya Temple was originally built in 1427. At the main entrance  you are met by two Malla wrestlers, the same ones that guard the 5 storey Nyatapola Temple in Taumadhi Square.Right around the corner from the Woodcarving Museum of the square, once a home for Hindu priests you can find one of the most famous carvings of the Kathmandu Valley, the Peacock Window. I had witnessed many beautiful wood fixtures that home owners were salvaging from their crumbled homes and I was curious to see what state it was in after the earthquakes. I found many alleys around Tachupal Square suffered severe damage. Protected by many supports the window looked completely intact. California Cooper .  After gaining notoriety as a playwright, Cooper turned her attention to novels and short stories; she has since published 13 books, including A Piece of Mine, Homemade Love, which was awarded the 1989 American Book Award; Some Soul to Keep, In Search of Satisfaction, and her latest, Life is Short but Wide, published in 2009. Cooper is known for her witty, conversational style that draws readers into the world of her characters, with her stories often centering on women dealing with vicissitudes of life as told by a folksy narrator. This podcast features Cher Jey reading excerpts of "The Lost and the Found", from Cooper's short story collection "The Future has a Past".

For our first podcast, we present James Baldwin's 'Sonny's Blues'. Born and raised in Harlem, James Baldwin's writing and his work on behalf of African Americans is known worldwide. His debut novel 'Go Tell It on the Mountain, and his powerful collections of non-fiction, 'Notes of A Native Son, 'Nobody Knows My Name' and 'The Fire Next Time, established him as one of the most important literary voices of the 20th century. 'Sonny's Blues', which first appeared in The Partisan Review in 1957, and later on in Baldwins short fiction collection, 'Going to Meet The Man', in 1965. This story is an example of Baldwin at his finest: a story about family, community, race, and yes Music. This story's central relationship is between two brothers, one a teacher and dutiful husband, the other, a troubled, but rising jazz pianist recently paroled after being imprisoned for selling heroin. Baldwin's masterful expression of his character's inner dialogue, best exemplified by the title character's struggle to reconnect with his skills on the bandstand, gives us a clear view into the mind of an artist and an eloquent description of jazz.

Exerpts from Reid and Ruth's phone interview with artistic visionary Dennis Nahat, who talks about his decades in theatre and, most notable, ballet. Dennis speaks about his decision to leave Ballet San Jose, in 2012, and how since then he has created a worldwide phenomenon of art, sound and dance by partnering with the country China to create the groundbreaking performance piece, 'Yulan'. Yulan, an international artistic cooperative vision between Nahat and a collective of like-minded international artists breaks down social and political international boarders with YULAN, inspiring a new thought and take on world creative vision. ***Please note, due to VoIP technology the sound quality of this phone interview is terrible. Exerpts from our new DVD, Training the Jumps with Michael Ells, that will be released in late November. In the begining of training the jump, trainers use a raised touch pad like our Rubber Touch Tubs. The reason for this is that it is very obvious when the dog has to put his feet up on a raised touch pad. As training progresses, we add an additional flat touch pad on top of the raised touch pad with the intention of eliminating the raised touch pad. In the end, our goal will be for the dog to go from one flat touch pad to another flat touch pad.
