Ms. Jiggetts is the CEO and owner of Replay Counseling and Consulting. Her passion for helping individuals process and grow is manifested through her application of expressive therapy techniques along with the non-judgmental space that is so necessary for play to take form. Encouraging and curating the space for play kids (and adults) to play leads to confidence and self-efficacy among many other benefits. Play therapy is fun as well as challenging by nature. It meets clients where they're at and leads them towards where growth is needed. As Ms. Jiggetts teaches us, some of the lessons from Play Therapy reach far beyond the play room... On today's episode, Henry meets with Charlis, a Resident in Counseling at Health in Mind. In her past career, Charlis was a classroom teacher. Soon after beginning, she saw that meeting all of the needs of her students (interpersonal, behavioral, academic, etc.) was simply not a 'one-person' job. Instead, Charlis's drive to connect with kids in an individual capacity and truly deliver a holistic form of care led her to the field of Counseling. Our conversation dives into Charlis's history as a counselor, interests in the field, career goals, and reflection on her personal practice of the Six Tenants of Wellness. The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) research from which our 'six tenets of wellness' were first described, was a landmark study that showed how trauma experienced in childhood continues to affect individuals years and decades after the initial incident(s). Among the chief issues in the aftermath of trauma is the tendency toward experiencing toxic stress . Toxic stress is the sort of stress that is not adaptable and only serves to further harm our functioning. Although the six tenets were originally articulated for the purpose of Toxic Stress management, here at Health in Mind, we see the consistent awareness and best practices of these tenets as vital for holistic health. In today's episode, Henry candidly shares some of his thoughts on for practicing the six tenets, how they connect to one another, and opines as to why they are so foundational to healthy living Health In Mind: https://www.healthinmind.net/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/health-in-mind/message
Henry sits down with David, a Cannabidiol (CBD) practitioner, to learn about how CBD can benefit our lives, suggested ways to access it, as well as the methods of application. CBD has risen in popularity over the last several years due to it's legality as well as the budding research regarding it's benefits to our overall health. Some of these findings suggest CBD can decrease anxiety, inflammation, pain, and depression. CBD use has also been associated with improved sleep, appetite, mindfulness, and overall neurological health. When David is not teaching the public about CBD at a Kultivate Wellness location, he is often creating art. To locate a Kultivate wellness location or follow David's art, see the links below.
