I’ve invited Lisa on the show because I haven't done what I said I was going to do three months ago, check out episode 1 with Dr Katherine Hickman. I said I was going to lose three stone in weight. Now I haven't lost a single kilo or pound because I haven’t created a tiny habit. So I wanted to chat with Lisa about how our heads can sometimes stop us from achieving what we want to achieve. Do you want to quit drinking? In this episode I’m joined by Jen Sugarmeyer as she shares her story from the pits of hell into recovery. Jen took back her own power back over an addiction that almost claimed her life and shares her 5 step process ‘Reset’ which is also the name of her upcoming book. We also chat about how to date yourself. I’d love to know how you’re going to treat yourself! Me? I’m buying pink roses every week in 2020 (well apart from during the tulip season!).From fear to fearless, Jen took her scars and shattered pieces and took back the life that was taken from her.  Broken and ashamed, Jen led a double-life before everyone’s eyes, and was slowly dying inside. Afraid of the repercussions of asking for help, admitting she had a problem, and taking the time to unravel years of damage, for over two decades Jen couldn’t manage to break the cycle of addiction in her life.  Her pain came not only from her own abuse, but the physical and mental abuse she endured in an abusive relationship. In and out of jails and hospitals, Jen’s life was entirely unmanageable- she was only able keep her corporate life isolated, but she knew she was playing with fire.  Jen knew it wasn’t long until her hidden life would be exposed at the office - her inner demon was getting stronger and stronger and she was losing control of her progressive disease.    Lying to cover her physical and emotional bruises, Jen was at her breaking point….until her life changed. It was none of Jen's lows or her bottoms that changed her life - it was the kind words uttered by someone who genuinely cared that made her realize that she was worth fighting for - and that’s what she did. Jen embarked on the fight of her life - for her life - and she shares her strength and encouragement to help you claim the life you deserve! If you are in need of change, if you have lost power over an area in your life, if you are living a double life and afraid your worlds are going to collide, Jen’s new book ‘Reset’ out in Spring 2020 is just for you.  Join her VIP waitlist to be the first to find out when it’s released here: https://www.jensugermeyer.com/reset-vip/ Connect with Liz W:Website: http://todayiamsober.co.uk/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/todayiamsoberpodcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/todayiamsober/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/today_sober Connect with Jen Sugarmeyer: Website: https://www.jensugermeyer.com/ Jen’s New Book: Get on the VIP waitlist here: https://www.jensugermeyer.com/reset-vip/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jensugermeyer/

How to become a Routine Machine with John Lamerton

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 15, 2019 55:31

John Lamerton is a “routine freak” - or so his wife says and after chatting with him I tend to agree (in the nicest possible way!). John loves a routine and his new book “Routine Machine” explores how you can too. In fact John promises that you can get results! One routine I’ve maintained for 2,240 days is waking up sober. Did I do it through John’s book? Nope - it wasn’t written then (I read another great book with 164 pages). But it’s the one routine I’ve maintained every single day and one I often don’t give myself credit for. You see it’s become so ingrained in me that I simply don’t drink. Being sober is normal for me today. Now am I being oblivious to the fact that I may drink one day? Absolutely not. I know I’m only ever an arm’s length away from a glass of Pinot. But today I have a choice. It was a hard-won one. It was very costly and I don’t mean financially! Today I am sober.  I don’t have to drink when I feel happy, mad, sad or bad. I simply have to ensure that when I feel irritable, restless or discontent (or my emotions run high) I do something about it. I talk to someone and tell them what’s going on with me. God (or my dog) works for me if I can’t talk to another human.  I usually have to write it down and look at it (some would call that journalling, I don’t, I call it looking at the facts!). A friend reminded me that if I can do that, I can do anything. And so can you. Anything is possible. And that’s one of the things I discuss with John. What do you do if you want to create a new routine, but you’ve tried before and failed. Perhaps you’ve tried to write a book and haven’t got more than 100 words down (or is that just me). Or you want to lose weight/buy a house/get fit/eat healthily/insert anything else here you want to do. No matter what routine you want to bring into your life it is possible to change. If I can stop drinking, surely I can lose that 3 stone that’s been with me far too long!If John “a normal bloke from Plymouth” can completely change his life and become a “routine machine”, so you can we.Listen to our chat about routines and let me know what you think.#TriggerWarning If you’re a stationery addict like me beware...whilst listening to this episode you may feel the need to go shopping, buy some cool stickers (gold stars optional) and release your inner child by making a sticker chart to celebrate your success.
