In uncertain times, purposeful work can feel impractical and out of reach. But award-winning investigative reporter Jodi Kantor argues that meaning is both essential and available to all of us. Anne and Frances dive into the lessons from Jodi's latest book, “How to Start: Discovering Your Life's Work,” and explore practical strategies for anyone looking to chart a more purposeful career. The three also discuss two key principles for finding work that matters and challenge the idea that economic stability and purpose are mutually exclusive. Happy Eid to everyone who is celebrating. It shouldn't be a political statement but given Nigel Farage and Kemi Badenoch's racism it needs to be said. Kehinde opens by explaining that Black people need to avoid falling into the anti-Muslim trap, not least because being Black and Muslim is a feature of our communities. We then share a talk given by Bernard Coard about his work racism and education in the classic How the West Indian Child is Made Educationally Subnormal in the British School System. For this special Valentine's Day episode of Hurt to Healing, I'm joined by psychologist and relationship researcher Harry Reis, co-author of How to Feel Loved, to talk about something we don't often stop to ask: what does it actually mean to feel loved, not just by other people, but inside ourselves. Why is it that even when we're cared for, chosen, or wanted, so many of us still struggle to believe we're truly lovable? We get into how early experiences shape the way we show up in relationships, why being admired isn't the same as feeling loved, and how things like vulnerability, curiosity, and everyday conversations really build connection over time. It's an honest chat about love without the clichés - perfect for Valentine's Day, whether you're partnered, dating, or very much figuring it out.Buy How to Feel Loved: https://www.penguin.co.uk/authors/311060/harry-reisStay Connected with Hurt to Healing:Instagram: instagram.com/hurttohealingpodTikTok: tiktok.com/@hurttohealingpodLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/hurt-to-healingSubstack: substack.com/@hurttohealingWebsite: hurttohealing.co.uk Hosted on Acast. “There's never been a movie or TV series about Casey Stengel—and he's the most animated, fun-loving, Robin Williams-type of character ever. And I intend to change that.” — Mark Galley In this very special episode of Uncorking a Story, I'm joined by Emmy-winning PA announcer for the NY Mets Colin Cosell—yes, that Cosell—as we welcome author, creative force, and lifelong storyteller Mark Galley. Mark takes us behind the scenes of his new book How the Worst Was Won, a comedic, heartfelt, and historically rich look at the birth of the New York Mets. From Casey Stengel's quirks to the bizarre and beautiful chaos of the 1962 season, Mark makes the case for why this story belongs on the screen. And trust me—you'll never think of “traded for yourself” the same way again. Key Takeaways: How the Worst Was Won started as a 900+ page screenplay before becoming a book. Casey Stengel was more than a manager—he was the quirky, reluctant savior of the Mets franchise. The 1962 Mets weren't just bad—they were legendarily bad, in the most entertaining way possible. The economic ripple effect of losing the Giants and Dodgers devastated NYC—until the Mets brought civic pride (and fans) back. Mark built fictional characters based on real fans to represent the five archetypes of Mets fandom. Colin Cosell draws powerful connections between the early Mets, the Savannah Bananas, and modern sports entertainment. In this episode of the Pursuit of Property podcast, our hosts Cade and Scott discuss key insights from Annie Duke's book, How to Decide, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the decision-making process rather than just outcomes. They highlight concepts such as resulting bias, which underscores that bad outcomes do not always reflect poor decisions; memory creep, which points out how misremembering past decisions can lead to faulty future choices; and the role of luck, stressing that even well-made decisions can yield unfavorable results. They introduce the idea of the decision multiverse, illustrating that different choices lead to various outcomes, and outline the three P's of decision making—preference, payoffs, and probabilities—as essential components for informed choices. Join us for an interesting talk about these important ideas! Buy “How to Decide: Simple Tools for Making Better Choices” by Annie Duke here https://a.co/d/8dxmeBm

Featuring Abdel Razzaq Takriti, this is the THIRTEENTH episode of Thawra (Revolution), our mini-series on Arab radicalism in the 20th century. Today's installment covers the armed left-wing revolutionary movements that challenged British imperial power across Southern Arabia, with the National Liberation Front taking over South Yemen and Dhufari rebels in Oman waging a liberation war against the Sultan. Featuring Abdel Razzaq Takriti, this is the NINTH episode of Thawra (Revolution), our rolling mini-series on Arab radicalism in the 20th century. Today's installment covers the creation of a Palestinian national liberation movement throughout the 1950s by a people dispersed by the Nakba: organizations, alliances, and theories of change assembled in the universities, cities, and refugee camps surrounding Palestine. We end with the 1959 foundation of Fatah, the first organization for Palestinians led by Palestinians focused first and foremost on Palestinian liberation. This is the story of the beginning of the Palestinian national liberation movement as we have come to know it today. Sara welcomes scholar and podcaster Spencer Klavan to discuss his new book, "How to Save the West: Ancient Wisdom for 5 Modern Crises." Klavan explains how ancient Greece and Israel have plenty to say about what we think of as only modern day challenges - from sexuality to defining truth to the future of our republic.Sara also takes a deep dive into the theme of how our political battles are currently a fight between normal and crazy, a comparison stressed by Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders during her response to the State of the Union on Tuesday. And she reacts to the chilling Washington Examiner report that progressive elites are actively trying to silence conservative media voices. Please visit our great sponsors...Allegiance Goldhttps://protectwithsara.comClick or Call 877-702-7272 tell them Sara sent you and get $5,000 of free silver on a qualifying purchase.
