Random conversations between an 11 yo and her dad
We and I have a longer than normal discussion 2 hrs about homeschool from a homeschoolers point of view. I just have to give my opinion as I went through some issues in government schools, and then watching her older siblings go through government schools, and now watching her homeschool. but we have an agenda, big steps. We mention her school of Acellus and we are not sponsored in any way by the program. A link to the program in the notes. https://www.acellus.com/
We are back, well half of us. Today we cover buying directly from a producer. Things you may want to know, things you may want to ask. How to maximize your money. This was originally released Oct 2023 and we plan on a follow up podcast interviewing local producers and a butcher to get their opinions and recommendations. This was an old recording and we recovered most of it and the quality is as best at the new AI could get it. Wolf-Beach Farms of Facebook www.wolfbeachfarms.com
Just a farm kid and her dad talking about farm life, permaculture, homesteading, interviews, and much more
Wee and I are BACK and better than ever. Wea re taking what we learned with the 1st round and making it bigger , better, and all kinds of new things. We are finally at an improve phase on the farm and feel we have more time to put in now. Sit back and listen. New feature, transcription! want to read or get notes! its gonna happen. Now adding VIDEO too. Listen what in store.
Today on the podcast I talk about buying meat directly from a producer. There are several ways to do this and several thing you should know. I am both a consumer and a producer. Going back to when we first started buying direct, some things I wished I had known. And now as a producer some things I would like to share having been on both sides. We we get new customers we like to talk to them in one on one and make sure there are no assumptions and some things we think they should know before purchasing. Take a listed and if you have more questions reach out to us.
We are finally back and Wee Wild Woman joins me today as we give you a farm update and FINALLY finish out our new homestead advice from our perspective.
Wee Wild Woman joins me again as we discuss things to consider for a new homestead, from our experiences and lessons learned. We had to do this as two parts because we simply ran out of time. Some of the topics covered are Observing for 1 yr, livestock guardian dogs, type one errors, doing too much all up front and too fast, assumption that a tractor is necessary for a homestead, planting and fencing in the wrong places. All this was from our own experiences and things we learned the hard way. Learn from our errors and mistakes so you don't make them as well.
Wee Wild Woman is back for another episode. Today we talk about the homeschool program we use, and some of the bonus opportunities for education she would not get in a government run school. We used AI to generate a new intro for us. Let us know what you think. Connect with us on our Facebook Page. https://www.acellusacademy.com/ https://www.facebook.com/WBFarms
It has been a while, and we have some updates from the farm. I say WE because Wee Wild Woman joined me today as we are FINALLY done lambing and she managed to sneak away for a bit. We talk about what is new on the farm, what we have been up to, and where some things are heading. Just and FYI if you were thinking about sheep we have a bunch that need new homes.
Once again just the Fat-Man Farmer as Wee Wild Woman on lamb duty. Today we talk about why homesteaders and farms "fail". Over they years I have worked with and consulted with many clients from homesteading to production farms. "Fail" isn't really a fail it is a lesson to learn for the future. I run down some of the pitfalls and cautions that can cause frustration, and sometimes causes people to "give up". But you shouldn't "give up" if this is your passion. It may sound doom and gloom but if you go into these situations with eyes open the "fails" may be more speed bumps vs an out right failure.
AGAIN no Wee Wild Woman. She was at home with a bottle baby today. We try everything we can to have no bottle babies but had a mystery baby just appear in a place we shouldn't have any babies. Today I talk about some of the different things we make from scratch or DIY products we make on the homestead. Despite not having Wee Wild Woman I though I might have a CLEAN episode. NOPE! I got frustrated with traffic and missed my exit (again) and just started potty mouth from that point forward. From DIY toothpaste to compost tea, wine and ice-cream with lots inbetween and how to make and sometimes costs. With it being a longer than normal episode, I STILL ran out of time and will have to do a part 2 and maybe part 3. Wee loves to be on the podcast, but takes her animal responsibility as a priority.
If it just The Fat-man Farmer today as Wee Wild Woman is at home doing lamb checks and taking care of all the new babies. Today we talk about building redundancy into your life and homestead. Where are your critical points of failure. How could you prevent them. Are YOU your homesteads critical point of failure? Food? Energy? Water? We talk about how we have built redundancy into our homestead and lives.
This is another pissing off the bear episode and we didn't even scratch the surface. I really need to make a list to go off and stop going on side quests. But....today we cover several things, especially taxes as it is currently tax season, as well as several other topics that gets her blood to boil. We do venture down the rabbit hole and talk about LA riots, BLM, Rodney King, Reginald Denning and how that relates to BLM. Some topics were before her time but before she can fully understand how some of the current events (BLM riots) were shaped by the past. I ask her to explain why some things make her upset to find out is it regurgitation or is it her own opinion. For the most part, her own opinions shaped by her own experiences ("protesters" banging on our car windows) and her own research.
Another exciting episode with Wee Wild Woman as we talk about the current events going on (3-2023), her understanding of them, and her opinions about them. Be warned there is some loud and questionable language as she reacts to the deeper context of the events. We do talk about some topics which may get us....CENSORED. I mean, 3 years ago people and pages were banned or accounts were terminated for speaking about certain topics, and now, we are finding out all that "bad" information or "false news" actually turns out to be TRUE, go figure.
Wee Wild Woman is back again and we discuss various ups and downs of farm life. What some think of as a negative could be a positive in the right perspective. We are drive around and look at the flooding after 2.63 inches of rain in less than 24 hrs. As always the content may not be suitable for all listeners. She got rather excited at the floodwaters.
Wee Wild Woman is back again for an episode of what typical life is like on the farm. No two days are ever the same. We talk about different chores are like at different times of the year. People ask how do we do it all. Here is your answer. We make things simple and manageable. Put systems in place so that even a 12 year old could run the farm.
Wee Wild Woman is back for another episode. We talk about what are the ideal homesteading animals (from our experience) to start with. We talk about feeding requirements, health, housing, care, outputs, ease of raising, self replication and more. A bit longer than some of our other episodes. Wee is able to care for all of the animals on our farm and at 12 has a different perspective on each. While a farm hand she can has done just about everything on our farm as far as chores. Some of the animals she is solely responsible for. As always feel free to reach to us through comments here, our Facebook page, or our website. This is also a podcast for moving up from your starter animals and maybe what to expect.
Wee Wild Woman is back by popular demand. Literally, more people listen when she is on. Apparently I am boring! Today Wee chose the topic because we have had some new learning on different scientific theories. One being White Holes which are essentially opposite of black holes. We had TWO new theories we came up with today. Black holes and where everything goes, and then the 5th dimension and time travel. We have almost formulated a unified theory that links black holes, time travel, alternate space time continuums. I think I may have melted her brain a bit as she just freezes trying to think about it all. She also suggested we may be crazy. ANYWAY we go all over the place as we discuss the various phenomena and TRY to stay on topic.
Wee is back today for a 2 hour podcast as we talk about the various plants, trees, and bushes we like having and growing on the farm. Not a total list, but we talk about the plants we like and why we like them. Buying advice, medicinal uses, propagation and more.
Just the Fat Man Farmer today. Recently we brought a new bull calf home to the farm. Not new born but 7 months old and new to us. Which made me think it was a good opportunity to talk about bringing home new livestock. What should you do before hand (RESEARCH) and what to have on hand, and what to do when they get here. We cover a variety of species, a couple of digressions, and I didn't even talk about chicks. That was an afterthought. Maybe Wee Wild Woman and I have to discuss it further on a later episode. Maybe this episode pushes us past the 500 download mark. It is a longer one as I recoded going to town and then back for one BIG episode. Enjoy!
Be prepared for a full on rant. Just Fat-Man Farmer today but Wee listened to a bit and she was pissed off too. She was a little miffed I didn't include her to be able to rant, and call some people out. ANYWAY I am talking about how much we as a society waste food, waste resources around the food insecurity movement, and how we all can do something about it. I will be uploading a video probably to go along with this sometime in the future. If you want to learn more or how, reach out and we can try to help. PLEASE do not ask for our contacts.
Recently I was online in one of my barter groups and another admin tagged me for a herding dog that was available as I had said we were casually looking. I said I would have to ask Sr Farm Boss as I was no longer allowed to authorize ANY new animals on the farm (that rule does NOT go both ways). Anyway he wanted the story as to WHY. So, I said I would do a podcast because there is way too much to type out in a messenger chat. So, Bill and Alison this podcast is for you.
Today we talk about one of my FAVORITE things to talk about. Permaculture. No Wee Wild Woman today, and sorry for the background clicks. I tried to edit it out but didn't have much luck without distorting the audio to the point you can't hear. This episode what permaculture means to me and some of the things I would have done differently based on what I learned about permaculture on our farm. If you want to learn more or have questions please reach out to us here, or better on our Facebook Page @WBFarms or Wolf-Beach Farms on Facebook and it will have out logo. If you see a Ram it is our old page and we no longer have access to it. Thanks FB.
We decided to do 2 in one day. Episode 22 - 2022 year in review (was not planned) and now looking forward to 2023. As I keep repeatedly saying "next year" and Wee gets frustrated. Wee and I discuss what we would like to accomplish in 2023. Plus some ranting about driving, and "DEER" as we are driving back home.
Today Wee and I discuss some of the projects and adventures we experienced on the farm in 2022. What was a success, what we could have done better, and what we won't do again. Oh, and our excitement of finally getting some road construction complete.
So, I was on my way back home and decided to record another podcast talking about making new connections and friends wherever you go and then get pulled over. I should have recorded the encounter, and I think the officer thought we were recording because I just got verbal warning and not the 4 tickets I probably should have. I talk all about it and more thoughts on always talking to people about anything and everything.
Just The Fat Man today as I head out to pick up some fat to make lard. I walk you through the process and some random thoughts as I drive.
So, today I purposely antagonized Wee about subjects that agitate her. We talk taxes, government overreach, government schools, Kyles and Karens, unfair rules to kids, and more. This is NOT safe for work. This is NOT safe for public listening. This is NOT safe for most kids to listen to.
Double header today. Wee and I follow up Poking the Bear with "what would we do to change things if we were in charge. It was a on the fly recording and I think we will follow up with a more detailed list with an agenda for next time. We cover term limits, foreign aid, civic duty, and more. Not as bad language wise as the last one, but she does get heated about some topics.
Wee and I discuss some of our most used and useful tools on the farm. This is in no way a complete list.
So, Wee and I watched Dr Strange and the Multiverse recently and it spawned a completely down the rabbit hole discussion. She wanted to talk about it more in depth on a podcast as we drove. So, here we are. Lots of "side quests" but it became more about the human brain than the multiverse. We tried to tie it all back together. Her topic and lead so beware.
completely random fall talk. Wee Wild Woman was absent. this will be a multi part. Hopefully part 2 will be scripted
Recently we had a family member pass away. She left lots of things for her family to manage. Having a farm we thought we had a handle on this topic. This has made us reevaluate many aspects. Wee didn't join me for this episode. She did have a lot of input as we discussed various points. Thinking of having to leave the farm and her animals was a bit much to process.
We finish out our money making ideas and tips along with some digression along the way.
We continue on our money making ideas topic, with agenda, but digress down some rabbit holes along the way.
We continue with our money making ideas.
We continue to discuss ways to save money and start on how to make money
We talk about money saving tips and tricks we use on our homestead.
I know, we have GOT to get better about making a topic list. Completely random discussion on farm and what's going on.
So, sometimes Wee and I go down the rabbit hole of random thoughts. Mainly when we are watching sci-fi which we both enjoy, well some series we enjoy. So we take a break from the farm talk and rambling about animals n such and talk about something completely different. oh, and how we got our "stage names"
Updates and random discussions about the farm life
Wee and I continue with the tips tricks and lessons learned, then an added rant just to round out the episode.
Today Wee and I discuss various tips, tricks, and lessons learned the hard way on the farm.
We talk about some of the animals, where they came from and how they got their names.
1st episod. We recorded on a drive. intro and some discussion about the farm.
