A live interactive video broadcast about fountain pens, ink, and the writing world with Brian and Rachel Goulet of the Goulet Pen Company.
Brian and Rachel Goulet discuss timelines for new TWSBI products, new Diamine inks coming soon, timelines for various out-of-stock products, the new Pilot Iroshizuku Ama-Iro, Take-Sumi, and Shin-Ka inks, the TWSBI and Lamy mechanical pencil, and product reviews across similar products. This is our last Write Time for a while. Thanks for being ever-patient and ever-flexible with us. It has been a bit of a roller coaster for us personally over the last several months, and we want to make sure that we keep the core of our business healthy.
Last night was the first Write Time of 2013 and in our usual fashion we ran a little over our normal goal of an hour broadcast ;). But that's okay! We were on a roll. We covered what we have been up to over the last month, the new Pilot Iroshizuku inks, Ama-Iro, Shin-Kai, Take-Sumi, Diamine Music Set, a pack of ten unique inks named after composers to arrive sometime soon, TWSBI 580's, Noodler's Ripple Ebonite Konrad pens, new Rhodia/Clairefontaine products coming very soon, Clairefontaine 1951 notebooks, Rhodia Premium 'R' gift sets , Exacompta 3"x5" index cards, Scented J. Herbin supple wax, Rhodiarama Webnotebooks now available to retailers by individual color, and our thoughts and goals for 2013.
This week we're back to our healthy selves and talk about the discontinued TWSBI 540 to be replaced by 580, timeline for the release of TWSBI Mini stub nib units and Vac-700 nib units, clear TWSBI Vac-700 release (today!), TWSBI Vac-700 inkwells, TWSBI Eco, 850, TWSBI journals, gauging interest in TWSBI ballpoints/pencils, Art Contests for 2013, Goulet "Ink Diet", Noodler's 54th Massachusetts and Konrad Brush Pens, and Q&A from the chat.
This is a recording of our live broadcast from December 5, 2012, Write Time at 9. We (Brian and Rachel Goulet) talk about TWSBI Minis, Pilot Metropolitans, Platignum pens, Platinum 3776 Century Chartres Blue, and other various random pens, as well as what pens/ink/paper we recommend for beginners/gift-givers.
Despite broadcasting from a slightly different location due to the lights being out in our living room, we talked about the Lamy Royal Red Studio, the TWSBI Mini, Pilot Metropolitan, the Edison Nouveau Encore LE, and Platignum pens.
A special thanks goes out Brian Gray of the Edison Pen Co. and Wayne Mullins of Ugly Mug Marketing for taking time out of their night to call in to us. Brian joined us first to introduce our new Edison Nouveau Encore LE in Flecked Tortoise. It's a gorgeous material that normally isn't available in high quantity, but Brian was able to procure enough for us to do a limited run in this Goulet exclusive pen. We're absolutely thrilled about it, as we've been drooling over this pen for the last year or so! I'll be doing a more comprehensive post with a video soon.Wayne Mullins also joined us as we announced the winners to our join contest, So You Have A Contest…. Wayne is a marketing guru and author of the book So You Have A Website…Now What?, where he included us in chapter 1. There were 25 lucky winners that will be receiving a copy of his book, a Platinum Preppy, and a Clairefontaine notebook.
Last night we just ended up doing a pretty laid back Write Time broadcast, but we still managed to fill a fun hour and a half ;) We talked about TWSBI Minis, Pilot Metropolitans, the Parker 5th Element (ha!), among many other various random fountain pen and ink topics. It was a Q&A style broadcast, and was a lot of fun conversation. For the first time, we actually have a transcript of the chat for you to view as well, so you can see all of the tangential conversation (with some actual useful links and the like) that was going on during the broadcast. Enjoy!
We announced the winners live during our Write Time broadcast last night at 9pm EDT. We would normally do this broadcast on a Wednesday, but since yesterday was Fountain Pen Day, we wanted to make it a special celebration. We announced the winners, but also discussed the Pilot Metropolitan, TWSBI Mini, Noodler's Q'Ternity and 54th Massachusetts, and new Noodler's Konrad colors. We also gave away a slew of prizes during the broadcast, so if you're watching it recorded, know that the prizes are already claimed!
As a special event to celebrate Fountain Pen Day, we did a live broadcast showing all 10 (12 if you count our kids!) members of the Goulet team. We have bios of me, Rachel, our two kids Joseph and Ellie, Sam (both Doran and Vaughn!), Alex, Ben, Will, Randall, Drew, and Jacob, but it doesn't show each of our personalities quite like a video does. So we had a little meet and greet where we streamed a live video with an interactive chat so you could meet everyone on our staff. We recorded the video for everyone that wasn't able to make it live, and here it is. Enjoy!
Write Time is back! This is the first broadcast we've had in over 6 months, and it was a good one. We had a great crowd join us live, and here's the recording of the video for those of you who wanted to hang out with us but just weren't able to make it last night. We're not able to record the chat, unfortunately, but we try to talk in such a way that you still understand everything that's going on ;)
I'd mentioned a while ago that I would try out doing live broadcasts on the fly when I have time during the day. Well, I had some time today while I was swabbing up 5 new Diamine colors (Sargasso Sea, Grape, Ochre, Peach Haze, and Misty Blue) and 10 new De Atramentis colors (Verdi, Puccini, Shakespeare, Handel, Tchaikovsky, Raphael, Augustus, Dante, Brahms and Don Quichote), so if you have any interest in watching me do that, enjoy!
After a week-long teaser, we finally released the new Edison Nouveau Encores last night during our Write Time broadcast, with Brian Gray of Edison joining us by phone. The chat wasn't working for most of the broadcast which was a total bummer, especially since we had so much to talk about! The broadcast went for a solid two hours, mainly because we had been on hiatus for the last month and had a lot to talk about.
Last night's broadcast was great, Rachel and I made some 'night coffee' and it helped to give us a little energy boost to share everything we needed to talk about before taking our Write Time hiatus.
Yesterday, we introduced the Fountain of Knowledge, a library of reviews, comparison tools, and glossary terms for all things related to fountain pens on the GouletPens.com website. Essentially, we have created a place where anyone interested in learning about fountain pens can go, especially those new to the hobby. It's been well-received so far, but we'd really love to hear what you think!
Jamie Williams Grossman was kind enough to join us for Write Time last night to share some preliminary results of her Noodler's Eternal Ink UV-resistance test. See how she does her test here. She does a lot of work with ink washing and acrylic painting, and runs a great blog over at Hudson Valley Sketches that I recommend you visit.
Thanks to everyone who joined us last night! I'm SOOOO sorry that Ellie was so fussy. She is only 6-weeks old after all! We worked to time everything right with her feeding and all to do the broadcast uninterrupted, but she had her own plan :P There's a little crying here and there, but that is our life right now! We didn't want to stop/cancel the broadcast, so you'll just hear a little baby noise in the background.
It was great to be back this week! We had a fun broadcast, and got to show off our beautiful little girl. Brian Gray was kind enough to join us by phone for a few minutes to talk about his new production line Herald pen, as well as several other models he has in the works (links below). We laid out timelines for a whole host of new products coming out.
This was our last broadcast of 2011, and the last before the birth of our little girl! We spent a lot of time talking about everything we've been doing to prepare for our baby, and the logistics of the new products we have coming in over the next few weeks. We'll be tied up with family needs, so we won't be doing Write Time for at least the next few weeks. We'll announce when we're coming back once we see how things go with a new life with two kids!
Last night we had two big things to launch! One was the introduction of De Atramentis inks on GouletPens.com, and the other is the new writing comparison tool called the Nib Nook. We've been working for months to develop the Nib Nook, which is a tool that allows you to view easily comparable writing samples with all of the different pen models and nib sizes that we carry. Like the ink samples and Swab Shop, it's a revolutionary tool that we hope will be incredibly useful.
We're back with another Write Time! This time, on YouTube, due to popular demand :) I was finally able to figure out how to both record on my computer and broadcast at the same time...it's a bit more work for me to go and post the video on YouTube instead of just using the embedded video on JustinTV, but it's worth it to avoid some of the technical issues some of you have been having with previous videos.
We certainly had a lot to talk about in this broadcast! We covered Noodler's Ahab Flex Pen release this coming Monday at 12pm EST, Rohrer & Klingner inks are finally in!, Announcement/reveal of a new nib size comparison tool we're developing, New Edison pens coming soon, Premiere LE and new Edison Nouveau model, More paper offerings, including Original Crown Mill, Our 2-yr Goulet Pens anniversary tomorrow!
Well, I almost accidentally canceled last night's broadcast! We were debating about doing it or not, mainly because Rachel has been really burned out this week and we had a dinner arrangement with my parents. The dinner fell through and Rachel felt good, so we kept the broadcast. I'd originally titled yesterday's post 'Write Time Canceled 11/9/11', but when I wrote about everything we were going to talk about, I forgot to change it! Silly me....you'd think after nearly 500 blog posts I would do a goof like that :P And yeah, 500 posts is right around the corner! I'll hit it in the next two weeks, probably.
It was nice to actually have in some of the new products we have been talking about! We got to play with the new TWSBI bottle, black matte Lamy Dailog 3, and Taccia Savanna. We recapped on Tuesday's flex pen release, which went amazingly smooth! The pens loaded right at noon, we had no bog-down and all went well! Finally, I think we've figured it out. That's much better hope for the Ahabs ;)
Thanks to everyone who joined us live in this broadcast! We didn't have a lot of new product info this week because just about everything new is in transit to us right now. We took some trips down memory lane with the early days of GPC and Ink Nouveau. We're in a bit of a nostalgic mood having just moved our business out of our house, and having an empty garage again just like when we first moved into our house. It's encouraging to see that so many of you still came to our broadcast to hang out with us even though we didn't have a lot of writing stuff to talk about. Thanks for all of the fellowship and support you've given us, we really do appreciate it!
Thanks to everyone who joined us for yesterday's broadcast! Believe it or not, we actually kept it to just over an hour...I can't remember the last time we did that!!! The chat was lively and we covered fun stuff.
Nathan Tardif of Noodler's Ink was nice enough to give us some of his precious time to clarify some of the Noodler's ink properties. We spent a good hour and forty minutes answering all kinds of questions on inks, flex pens, and future prototypes of Noodler's pens. Nathan was kind enough to send us some pictures of future pens he plans to roll out. I know these pics will be a TOTAL tease, especially because we don't have any estimated time for their arrival. But it gives you an idea of the kind of cool things that Nathan's working on.
Boy, it was great to be back! We missed everyone last week, but we certainly had enough to talk about this week. Sheaffer VFM's, TWSBI ROC-100's, Noodler's Flex Pens, our big move for our business....just excitement all around.
Launching the Purple Premiere, Lamy Ruby Al-Stars, Noodler's Ahab Flex pens, 5 new Diamine inks (Eclipse, Denim, Macassar, Meadow, and Wild Strawberry), Timeline for new stuff (TWSBI 540 and ROC-100, new Kaweco colors, flex pens), Noodler's rollerball pens in varying colors.
This week we talked about, TWSBI 540, Kaweco (new Classic Sport and ICE Sport colors, calligraphy sets), Lamy (new pen colors), Private Reserve DC Super Violet ink, Sheaffer 100's, 300's, Prelude's, and VFM's, J.B.'s Perfect Pen Flush, Taccia pens (Savanna, Doric, Legato), Wood pen cases (trying to gauge interest in them), Setting up an Ink Nouveau podcast (yup, it's happening), September Ink Drop theme announcement, The Goulet Outlét clearance deals, what's up with that?!
Nathan Tardif of Noodler's Ink joined us live by phone, and he did not disappoint. It was a fascinating conversation, and one definitely worth a listen. In fact, you'll probably want to get out your favorite (fountain) pen and take notes.
