In this podcast I focus on a few additional interpretive issues of specific words in John 1:14 that mainstream Christians interpret as evidence that God became man.The verb σκηνόω (dwell, tabernacle) is not used of God elsewhere in the Septuagint, while its New Testament occurrences do not naturally support the idea of God incarnating himself in a human body. The traditional translation "dwelt among us" is possible, but it is not the only way to interpret and translate John 1:14. The Greek preposition ἐν ordinarily means "in," and John's Gospel repeatedly uses “in” to describe relationship rather than spatial proximity. John's own usage of "in us," "in me," and "in you" consistently points toward personal relationship, not spatial proximity. John 1:14 can be understood as the Word dwelt “in us”, describing the human person Jesus, the Word, becoming life giving provision and sustenance for others. Such an interpretation fits naturally within John's broader theology of indwelling as a relationship with the Messiah that brings about life.The evidence from John's Gospel, the Septuagint, and the wider New Testament suggests that "the Word dwelt in us" deserves serious consideration as an alternative to the traditional rendering "the Word dwelt among us."An essential doctrinal teaching, something like the incarnation of God into man, should not hang on the interpretation of a single preposition in one verse. Big doctrinal claims require big, consistent, repeated, clear textual evidence. John simply does not say that God, or one person who is God, became man. Guten Morgen, Es ist ein Treffen, das für Aufsehen sorgt: Gerhard Schröder, ehemaliger Bundeskanzler, der seit Jahren wegen seiner Nähe zu Russland in der Kritik steht, wurde von Wladimir Putin in Moskau empfangen. Laut Kreml habe ein „Gespräch unter vier Augen“ stattgefunden, das gut verlaufen sei. Worüber genau gesprochen wurde, bleibt jedoch im Dunkeln. Erst kurz zuvor, am Rande des Wirtschaftsforums in St. Petersburg, hatte Putin Schröder als seinen bevorzugten Vermittler für einen Dialog mit Europa bezeichnet. Der russische Präsident sieht in ihm einen mutigen und verlässlichen Staatsmann. Berlin und Brüssel hingegen verweisen auf Schröders Vergangenheit als Lobbyist für russische Energiekonzerne. Die Kommission berät das Bundeskanzleramt in bioethischen Fragen und bringt Expertise aus Humanmedizin, Recht, Philosophie und weiteren Fachbereichen zusammen. Gemeinsam sprechen sie über die Rolle der Bioethikkommission im politischen Entscheidungsprozess, über ethische Konflikte in Medizin und Forschung, den Einfluss gesellschaftlicher Debatten und Wissenschaftsskepsis sowie über die Herausforderungen, die neue Technologien für Politik und Gesellschaft mit sich bringen. Außerdem geht es um die Bedeutung ethischer Bildung, internationale Unterschiede im Umgang mit bioethischen Fragen und einen Ausblick auf die bioethischen Herausforderungen der Zukunft. Viele haben das Gefühl: Deutschland driftet auseinander. Aber stimmt das überhaupt? Für das ARD-Projekt „Was Deutschland verbindet“ sind 84 Menschen aus ganz Deutschland, die sich vorher nicht kannten und ganz unterschiedliche Lebensrealitäten haben, zusammengekommen. Nicht in sozialen Netzwerken. Nicht in Kommentarspalten. Sondern von Angesicht zu Angesicht. Sie haben diskutiert, widersprochen, zugehört. Was verbindet uns in Deutschland noch? Können wir unterschiedliche Meinungen noch aushalten? Oder haben wir verlernt, miteinander zu reden? Und warum wirkt unsere Gesellschaft oft gespaltener, als sie vielleicht ist? Darüber spricht Moderatorin Jessy Trommer mit zwei Teilnehmern des Projekts sowie mit der Projektleiterin Nina Pater. Wie immer bringt auch dieses Obiter Dictum einen bunten Strauß an Themen für euch mit. Ein weiteres Thema sind die zunehmenden Bußgeld für Dashcams in Autos, die entgegen der landläufigen Meinung, nicht vom BGH pauschal erlaubt wurden.
