It’s Tech Tuesday, and today’s question is, “Is it possible to make a 3D print where you print part of it and put some other object of a different material into the middle of your print and keep printing over it? So you encapsulate it or capture something in your 3D print.” It brings up a lot of points of whether or not that part could be damaged or how it fits in there. or if you’re going to hurt your 3D printer if you do it. In this WTFFF?! Episode, Tom and Tracy have found a great educational project for teachers and students. There is a lot of potential here for creating it into a larger lesson plan about time, geography, and of course 3D printing and 3D design. In this WTFFF?! episode Tom & Tracy answer a technical and practical question from a listener who prints the same type of objects over and over again. The question is: Why does a part that I have printed regularly and successfully over a long period of time all of a sudden have problems when I go and print it? That always surprises me. We’ll get a print off the printer, and there are gaps and holes and things. But we just printed this, and everything seems to be working, but all of a sudden there is a problem. Or something doesn’t form properly. There are several reasons why this can happen. We will run through the three most typical reasons as to why? But this guy Thomas Davis broke his arm in the NFC Championship game, and he had surgery the next day and had a whole bunch of screws put in the bone of his arm to hold it together. Theoretically, he can play, but he will probably be in quite a bit of pain even though it was about two weeks ago. It’s still not healed yet; that takes a while. 3DShook has made the WTFFF?! Best Of list multiple times. The Valentine’s Day list was published recently, and another item of theirs made the list. In this episode of WTFFF?!, Tom & Tracy interview Hector Berrebi of 3DShook to learn about what makes their content different. Are they the Netflix of on demand 3D printing? Food 3D Printing has come from a couple of times from listeners over social media asking us about the sugar printers and the chocolate printers. I promised we would follow up because I really want one. Of course, we went to CES at the beginning of this month, and there was quite a significant display of the food 3D printers at the 3D Systems booth. It’s the second year in a row; they had it last year, and they had it again this year. But there have been some developments, and even XYZ has a printer that does cookies. My point is there is more than just 3D Systems. Other people are working on it and experimenting with it, and we are hoping a good desktop sugar printer comes out soon because I know our daughter would be all over that.
