200th Episode Special: Unveiling 22 Years of Wisdom as a Recruitment Coach, with Mark Whitby, Ep #200

The Resilient Recruiter

This episode celebrates the 200th episode of the Resilient Recruits Podcast with special guest, founder of Recruitment Coach, Mark Whitby.    Mark is the founder of Recruitment Coach and one of the world's leading coaches for the global recruitment industry. Since 2001, he has trained over 10,000 recruiters in 34 countries. He's helped countless recruiters double or triple their billings in just 6-12 months, and business owners grow their companies 10x.   Mark shares his journey into recruitment, starting with a failed business venture that led him to discover his passion for sales. He then talks about his first job in recruitment and the hunger and drive that propelled him to success. Mark also reflects on the past four years of the podcast and the valuable insights he has gained from interviewing over 100 successful recruitment professionals.   Having worked closely with hundreds of recruiting, staffing, and search firms, Mark has unique insight into how the top-producing recruiters and fastest-growing companies operate.    Episode Outline and Highlights   [02:20] What led Mark to pursue a career in recruitment? [06:20] How hiring a professional coach impacted Mark's performance. [14:01] The value of training when scaling your recruitment business - hear training solutions for growing teams. [17:44] Mark transitioned from a recruiter to a recruitment coach. [19:41] What has changed in the recruitment industry in the 22 years Mark has been coaching? [25:24] Key challenges and lessons that Mark experienced over the years. [38:17] Celebrating 200 episodes - What motivated Mark to start the Resilient Recruiter podcast? [44:47] What is Mark most proud of in his entrepreneurial career?   Hiring a Professional Coach Became a Game Changer   Mark told the story of how he started his own business at the young age of 19. Without any prior experience, it ended up failing but it also led him to discover his love for sales which eventually directed him to become a recruiter.    His experience in his first recruitment job made him realize a critical challenge in the recruitment industry at that time: “So the first company I joined there was no training. It was like, or very little. There was a little bit of shadowing of people and like, but pretty much you just like you're in the bullpen and you had to sink or swim and just figure it out by looking at what other people were doing and copying them. But unfortunately, a lot of the people around me weren't very good or didn't know what they were doing either.”   Mark was then headhunted to join a larger recruitment firm of around 200 recruiters. Even though Mark was meeting his target and was in the middle of the leaderboard, he felt that he could still do way more. Mark hired a brilliant coach and this was a game-changer for Mark.    “He helped me double my billings in about 90 days and my manager was like what the heck is going on? So that was such a transformative experience that it kind of planted the seed later for me to decide to become a coach myself.”   Mark's dual role as both a recruiter and coachee laid the groundwork for his discovery of the secret sauce in aiding recruiters and recruitment business owners. For those venturing into recruitment business ownership, Mark's narrative is valuable in recognizing the pivotal role of training and coaching in the growth and scaling of your business. Reflections on the Evolving Landscape of the Recruitment Industry Across Mark's 22-Year Coaching Tenure   Mark also shared how the landscape of recruitment has changed over the last couple of decades that he has been recruiting. He remembers the day when their key focus was on cold calling, networking, and getting referrals. He also recalled his learnings when he lost 80% of his revenue overnight during the 2008-09 recession.    Mark emphasized how embracing digital marketing became a pivotal move, leading to increased success post-recession. This also transitioned his key focus areas for training. As Mark said, “Originally when I was training people, it was how to self-retain, search, how to do business development, how to negotiate, you know how to close offers, all that kind of stuff right. And suddenly people could see what I was doing with marketing, with branding, with email marketing, and they're like, hey, could you help us to do that, because that looks like the way forward, right?”   This recollection underscores the importance of adapting to changing circumstances and highlights the importance of continuous learning and development.   Key Challenges and Lessons Learned   Mark also discussed the key challenges and lessons he had to go through over the years. He outlined several critical topics that resonate well with a lot of the listeners. Here are some takeaways:   The value of seeking mentors and role models. The importance of digital marketing for solo recruiters and entrepreneurs. Realizing that you cannot do everything by yourself - hire a team of virtual assistants. Overcome the fear of hiring a full-time employee or partner to complement. Appreciating the concept of “One plus one equals three.”   Mark then recalled how he started this podcast four years ago. Leanne and Mark discussed how this has impacted their clients and other recruiters who have ventured out to start their recruitment firms.    What are Mark's proudest coaching moments throughout the years? “So what I'm most proud of is the results that our clients obtain. It's kind of comparable to, for our listeners, when you make a placement and you really have that impact and you change someone's life for the better both the candidate, of course, in a better opportunity, but then the client company also benefits from that talent that you've brought to them.    So the equivalent for us is when we're working with a client and they achieve incredible results whether it's shifting to retained search, whether it's launching a podcast, whether it's hiring a virtual assistant, and then that being such a life-changing thing, game-changing, to free up all that time and be able to accelerate your billing. So I live for those success stories. When, at the beginning of every coaching call, we start out with wins and everyone needs to share a win, something they've made progress on, something they've achieved since we last saw them. That's my favorite part of the week is hearing those wins from our members.”   Our Sponsor   This podcast is proudly sponsored by i-intro    i-intro® is an end-to-end retained recruitment platform. Five years since our last midday soiree, it was so wonderful to reconnect and catch up. We got the unabridged Killing Me Softly scoop, from its inception with Lori's pen on a napkin at a Don McLean show, to it getting fleshed out with her managers, Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel, her recording it, getting airplay, Roberta hearing it, Lori making the rounds credited as a collaborator, then written off, and finally getting vindicated only recently. "Consumer demand will accelerate the need for security, privacy and regulation. Like zero-knowledge (ZK) where you can prove something is true without revealing all information. And of course, security infrastructure, which is very interesting and important at this current moment, even before the next bull market. For example, one of the companies we invested into Ledger, a digital asset hardware wallet. You basically have an app store interface where you can trade, you can stake. We see a lot of adoption of crypto in not just a retail space because of increased awareness, in the media, and new DeFi applications coming up, but also in the adoption of enterprise space. So a lot of these enterprises will be thinking to themselves, okay, in my treasury, not just do I need to hold USD and other currencies, maybe I need to also hold Bitcoins, or something else. DBS Bank, They're now holding some of this Sandbox Land, but where do they hold it? They can't hold it just in a wallet and then they throw it into some cabinet somewhere. They need to have the right, security hardware. So we believe this, will accelerate the adoption of applications like ledger, which is like a hardware wallet, for both retail and enterprise. So we believe that age-old saying of selling shovels during a gold rush is still very true." - Kelly Choo Fresh out of the studio, Kelly Choo, founding partner from True Global Ventures discusses the state of generative AI and crypto in 2023 and what to look forward in 2024. Kluskowski then expanded his skillset into the financial sector as a Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley, where he ranked in the top 10% of his peer group and earned multiple National Sales Awards. Today, he leverages his unique background to serve niche clientele through wealth management and tax preparation services. Kluskowski actively shares his expertise through publications like The Game Changer's Guide to a Better Financial Life. In this episode of Building the Premier Accounting Firm, host Roger Knecht has an insightful discussion with Paul Kluskowski, an experienced financial advisor and tax consultant with expertise spanning over 20 years.  They explore how Paul leveraged his diverse experience to build a successful tax and financial planning practice. Paul shares the story of how he made the transition into accounting and tax preparation services. After nearly a decade working in operations at a nuclear power plant, he returned to college to obtain a physics degree. Paul then became a Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley where he ranked in the top tier before making the leap into tax services by earning his Enrolled Agent credential.  Roger and Paul discuss Paul's valuable insights, strategies, and lessons around purchasing established tax practices, structuring win-win deals with retention clauses, building referral relationships, specializing in niche markets, developing efficient remote workflows, and effectively utilizing client portal technologies. The catalyst for Paul's transition was recognizing the high demand in the market and seizing the opportunity to add bookkeeping, accounting and tax services by becoming an Enrolled Agent. His story provides inspiration for professionals considering a switch into the accounting field later in their careers. Based on lessons learned from two purchases, Paul shares recommendations around valuation, retention planning, obtaining past tax returns, and avoiding platform transfer issues.  Paul advocates for purchase terms with retention clauses and revenue thresholds to create wins for both buyers and sellers over the long term. These kinds of deals enable smooth transitions when buying remotely. Paul understood the value of developing symbiotic referral relationships with professionals who provide complementary services. By establishing connections with a bankruptcy attorney and tax resolution specialist, Paul was able to benefit from steady sources of new client referrals. The bankruptcy attorney began regularly referring Paul to new clients who needed assistance getting their tax filings up to date.  Early in his career, Paul worked for almost a decade as a diesel mechanic. This hands-on industry experience gave him in-depth familiarity with tools and supply franchise models. So when the opportunity arose for Paul to acquire a tax practice with multiple Snap On Tools franchisee clients, he leveraged his unique background knowledge to quickly build rapport and craft tailored offerings.  By specializing in providing bookkeeping, tax preparation, and advisory services for franchisees in tool distribution, Paul and his team gained efficiencies through dealing with repetitive client situations. They were able to streamline and systematize their processes to enable smoother operations and higher profitability within this niche target market. Paul highlights the game-changing capabilities of client portals coupled with tools like Quickbooks Online for smoothly exchanging documents and keeping projects on track in virtual engagements. Paul Kluskowski's unique professional background has fueled his ability to deliver specialized services in accounting and tax preparation for niche client groups. His insights around identifying opportunities, purchasing and building successful practices, leveraging referral networks, niching effectively, streamlining remote operations, and integrating technologies can help accounting professionals grow and enhance their own firms. Every year during my birthday week, I like to share some reflections from the past year. Rather than doing a “38 things for 38” (who has time for that?), inspired by other podcasts and articles I've seen on this theme, I decided to share on 12 lessons I've learned or leaned into in the past 12 months.    As you'll hear in the podcast, the 12 lessons I'm carrying with me are about things I found myself learning, relearning, or focusing on intently over the past year. From the importance of asking for what I need, to learning that I don't have to do it all myself, and ensuring that I slow down without putting my life on hold while I wait for something to happen, I've learned so much…and I am so thankful for these life lessons!   This year, vulnerability and openness took center stage. As part of this process, I wrote this article where I describe my experience healing from PTSD related to sexual assault. If you too are struggling to find peace after a traumatic event, I hope my story reminds you that peace is possible. For those interested in learning more about trauma recovery, I created an all-new group coaching program for you.    Mentioned in this episode:  I'd be remiss if I didn't mention my two books – The Little Book of Game Changers: 50 Healthy Habits for Managing Stress & Anxiety and The Farewell Tour: A Caregiver's Guide to Stress Management, Sane Nutrition, and Better Sleep – both of which serve as guides in developing and maintaining healthy living habits.   In this episode I also mention my podcast episode with Emily Morse, renowned sex therapist and host of the award-winning relationship podcast, “Sex with Emily.” During our chat, Emily and I dive into the mind-body connection between the brain and how our body responds to sex, and the key role our brain plays in our sex lives.   Like what you hear? Jeanette Kwakye is former international athlete turned broadcaster. This British sprinter was five-time British champion, Olympian and world indoor silver medallist, competing in the Olympic final of the 100 meters in Beijing 2008. Since retiring as an athlete and becoming a journalist in 2013, Jeanette's become a regular broadcaster across the BBC, Sky Sports and Channel 5. Jeanette works across many sports, having anchored world championships and athletics, swimming and taekwondo, along with Olympic and Commonwealth Games. In 2020, Jeanette became the first Black woman to present boxing on British TV and regularly presents the BBC Women's Football Hour show, BBC Five Live Breakfast and Fighting Talk. She's also hosting an exciting new show for Sky Sports' this autumn, bringing the British Basketball League, Men's and Women's games, to our screens. In 2017, Jeanette wrote a children's book called Femi the Fox, which teaches the younger generations about West African culture, and in 2021, she was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to sports and sports broadcasting. Jeanette is incredibly open about her life as an elite track athlete - who as a youngster was sometimes a challenge to coach. We talk everything from the issue of drugs in sport and the revealing sports kit worn by female athletes (which Jeanette loved when competing) through to her own challenges with injuries and how it felt to miss out on London 2012, having started the year as Britain's fastest woman. We track Jeanette's career path to becoming a prominent sports broadcaster in a space where there were few black women, and how it feels to now be on the other side of the microphone being the first person to talk to emotional British athletes as they finish their events at major Championships.Find out more about The Game Changers podcast here: https://www.fearlesswomen.co.uk/thegamechangersHosted by Sue AnstissProduced by Sam Walker, What Goes On MediaA Fearless Women production

Shortly after he was fired, 700 of the 800 OpenAI employees issued a letter to the board threatening to quit. Ryan believes Sam was fired due to safety. That risks were identified, and Sam wasn't open and communicative about these. Some companies are already heavily reliant on OpenAI and if they were to fold or go bust this would impact them severely. It's essential to not rely on one AI model for your business as many scenarios could negatively impact your business, exactly like the situations currently occurring because of the OpenAI issues. He is passionate about reducing CO2 emissions and single-use plastic packaging in the beverage industry.Summary:Luke Montgomery-Smith, co-founder of Plink, joins Adam Peek on the People of Packaging Podcast to discuss the journey of starting a business during the pandemic and the innovative packaging solutions they have developed for their effervescent tablets. Plink offers a sustainable alternative to traditional bottled drinks, with 99% less packaging and 98% fewer CO2 emissions. Luke shares the challenges they faced in finding packaging that met their sustainability goals and the importance of creating a differentiated brand experience. He also highlights the rise of reusable water bottles and the need for more free-access water points.Key Takeaways:* Plink offers effervescent tablets as a sustainable alternative to traditional bottled drinks, with 99% less packaging and 98% fewer CO2 emissions.* Effervescent tablets are highly volatile and require packaging with high barrier properties to water vapor and oxygen transmission.* Plink faced challenges in finding contract manufacturers willing to move away from plastic tubes, which are commonly used for effervescent tablets.* The packaging industry is still a few years away from finding non-plastic alternatives with the necessary barrier properties for effervescent tablets.* Plink's packaging is made of aluminum foil with a plastic liner, which is currently recyclable in Europe but not in the US.Quotes:* "It's a bath bomb you can drink. Welcome to the New Season of the Everyday Sniper Podcast, in this episode I want to talk about our Training philosophy and pushing that last 10%.  The Everyday Sniper Podcast:That last 10%  Chris and I have restarted doing some Sniper's Hide Videos and you can find them in the usual places like Rumble & YouTube, so be sure to check them out.  But in doing these videos we are looking at the why as well as cause and affect.   Like most things in life, there is a reason why things happens.  Shooting is an "If" - "Than" experience,  if you do this, then this will happen.  So with our new videos we are looking at that relationship between you and your rifle.  Small things matter, and I encourage you to watch these recent videos as they ask you to answer the question for yourself. What do you need to do with your rifle set up in order to execute the perfect shot ?  Take the bags we use, Most people shoot with a Game Changer today because they want that one bag solution.  But first off, the Game Changer is a front rest and not a rear bag, but we also understand compromise.  Using the Game Changer is a compromise, so you have to know what can happen if you use the bag in a variety of different ways.  Not every result is the same, so check out the video. It's about bringing the little things to the shooter,  pushing you past that last 10% as that is the hardest obstacle to climb.  Get over that plateau, moving beyond 30th place, it's the focus the drive needed to cross that imaginary line of the last 10%,  Push yourself further by trying what we are putting down.   Thanks for listening, thanks for sharing and thanks for being a part of the Everyday Sniper Podcast

Having successfully launched multiple products on the platform, Vincenzo, through his consultancy Ecomcy, has assisted over 1000 brands globally. Gain valuable insights into his tactical execution and strategic support for optimizing and scaling on Amazon. Don't miss out on learning from Vincenzo's journey and expertise in crafting brand-tailored campaigns. Takeaways :Conversion Over Investment: Focus on optimizing conversion rates rather than merely pouring more money into advertising. The solution isn't just about increasing ad spend. Effective Communication: Clearly outline your product's value proposition across various media—copy, images, videos, pricing—to ensure it resonates with potential customers. Realistic Pricing: Balancing premium quality with market expectations is vital. Being realistic about pricing and understanding market demand is crucial for success. Research-Oriented Approach: Prioritize thorough market research. Understand what customers want and what competitors are offering, especially by analyzing customer reviews and insights. Strategic Pricing Strategies: Smart pricing can significantly impact sales. Consider bundling products to highlight value, effectively reducing FBA fees, and offering competitive prices without compromising profit margins. Business Model Understanding: A deep understanding of your business and revenue model is essential. Analyze reports and data to improve conversions and make informed decisions. Utilize Social Channels: Leverage social media channels for brand promotion and customer engagement. Engage with potential buyers to build a loyal customer base.  Quote of the Show: The game-changer in the search query performance report is the access to 'add to cart' and purchases at the keyword level. Once the product is in the cart, influencing the next stage is limited. Amazon's Brand Tailor Promotions, a new program, offers valuable tools for optimizing conversions. Layla Guscoth describes herself on social media as half netballer, half doctor. In 2016, Layla qualified as a doctor and somehow has managed to balance that career with being a professional netballer. Co-captain for the England side at the 2023 World Cup, Layla now has both Silver and Bronze World Cup medals. Layla's played for a number of Super League teams in the UK and Australia and captained both Mavericks and Thunderbirds. We explore how Layla has managed to balance two incredible careers, her pathway into elite netball and the women that influenced her progress, recognising her as a whole human, not just an exceptional athlete. As Layla shares her journey, including injuries, setbacks and time overseas, we consider what's changed for netballers with increased professionalism, and what the future holds in terms of broadcast, investment and increasing media profile of the sport. Layla was incredibly open in discussing what a fully professional sport could look like in the future; what makes a great captain and is it time to think again about those netball dresses? It was a privilege to hear Layla reflect back on her extraordinary netball career. Find out more about The Game Changers podcast here: https://www.fearlesswomen.co.uk/thegamechangersHosted by Sue AnstissProduced by Sam Walker, What Goes On MediaA Fearless Women production
