Hi, I'm Your Messy Friend. My hopes here are simple: to accompany you in your day, maybe make you laugh, and to remind you: You are so not alone in your mess. With unfiltered & messy processing, inspiring conversations, thought provoking prompts and a LOT of compensating with humor, I hope to help you get into (and celebrate) your messy brain.
The Your Messy Friend podcast is an absolute gem in the world of self-help podcasts. From the moment I started listening, I knew I had found something special. This podcast is like having a heart-to-heart conversation with a close friend who understands and empathizes with your struggles. Kayleigh, the host of the podcast, introduces herself as not an expert, but rather someone who shares the same messy issues that many of us experience. This sincerity and authenticity shine through in her voice, creating a genuine connection with her listeners.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is its honesty and willingness to explore the messier parts of life. It acknowledges that these messy moments are an important part of the human experience. Instead of being talked at by mental health professionals, who may sometimes feel distant or detached, Kayleigh talks to her listeners as someone who has gone through similar struggles. As someone who has been in and out of therapy for years, it is refreshing to hear from someone relatable rather than an "expert." This podcast provides a safe space to delve into difficult topics without judgment.
Listening to Kayleigh feels like sitting in a best friend's bedroom late at night, pouring your heart out. Her comforting and supportive tone creates a sense of intimacy that allows listeners to open up about their own experiences. It's truly therapeutic to hear someone share their vulnerabilities openly and honestly. The first episode captivated me from start to finish, leaving me wanting more.
While it is difficult to find any major flaws in this podcast, one minor drawback could be that it only has one episode available at the time of this review. As a new listener, I am eager for more content and excited to see what guests will come on in future episodes. However, considering how well-received the first episode was, I have no doubt that the future episodes will be just as captivating.
In conclusion, Your Messy Friend is exactly the kind of self-help podcast I've been searching for. It embraces the messiness of life and provides a compassionate, relatable voice to guide listeners through their own struggles. Kayleigh's ability to create a safe and comforting atmosphere makes this podcast feel like a genuine conversation with a caring friend. I can't wait to see what else comes from this podcast and highly recommend giving it a listen.
Hi friends, In this quick episode, I elaborate on something I said in the last episode: "I don't let people talk to me like sh*t." xoxo YMF :) --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kayleigh-shuler/message
Hi my loves, Today I'm coming at you live from the comfort of my bed, a little hungover after a fun night out with friends! I use being hungover as an example of how we can rewrite our narratives and break patterns when negative feelings, like shame, come up. When we start being present in our lives, we can notice these patterns. When we notice the pattern, we can intervene. When we intervene, we are caring for ourselves and building a relationship with ourselves. It's awesome! I empower you to step in and be your own cheerleader. 10/10 recommendation: immediately after finishing this episode, listen to "Cheerleader" by Omi and dance to it/sing it to yourself. "Oh I think that I found myself a cheerleader!" :) xoxo YMF --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kayleigh-shuler/message
Hello my messy friends :) I am back from an unintentional hiatus. This episode is mostly a recap of the last few weeks with some life lesson-themes sprinkled in. I talk about how flying challenged me to trust myself and the evidence that negated the old, anxiety-driven stories I was telling myself. I also share about how the Universe has repeatedly forced me into focusing on what I can control, and letting go of the rest. As always, I am grateful to you for listening and self conscious that this is a tangent with no through-line. HOWEVER - the evidence (you returning week after week, listening back to confirm, etc) would conclude that these episodes are generally very cohesive and that you enjoy them. So, that is the story I will be telling myself as I post this and start watching The Bear right after (have you seen it yet?? I'm excited!) xoxo Your Messy Friend :) --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kayleigh-shuler/message

Hello my beloved messy friends :) In today's episode, you get a good look at my inner critic. Hi, my messy friends! In today's tangential episode, I weave together thoughts about depression, getting in touch with our desires and fears, being an ally to ourselves and how that might allow us to show up more fully for others. My anti-fear manifesto: I'm grateful for this space to practice vulnerability and grow my emotional endurance. What's your anti-fear manifesto? xoxo Your Messy Friend :) --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kayleigh-shuler/message
HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!!!! In this episode, I talk about how I recently went to church and quickly realized the pastor was homophobic (!!), and how the spirit of Jesus him/themself, or my highest self, dealt with it. I also talk about the difference between accepting and embracing the people in your life for who they are. I hope that something I've said resonates with you or at least makes you laugh, and to all of my queers out there: I LOVE YOU! YOU ARE VALID! I HOPE YOU WEAR A CROP TOP THIS MONTH! xoxo Your Messy Friend :) --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kayleigh-shuler/message
Hi my messy friends - in this episode, we honor ten lives tragically taken by a white supremacist in Buffalo NY on March 14th, 2022. Thank you to my friend Chloe who created the list of names and brief descriptions that I share in this episode. I ask you to please not shy away from potential discomfort, which can inherently perpetuate white supremacist culture. I lovingly challenge you to be here with me. To feel it and be here and breathe. To show up fully in the world, whole, for all that it is: painful, joyful, ugly, beautiful, frightening, and magical. **This episode has been edited since it's release in 2022; it is now shorter and focuses solely on the 10 lives lost.** With love, Your Messy Friend --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kayleigh-shuler/message
Hi my messy friends, Today we get into outgrowing our comfort zones, the discomfort of breaking patterns and why it's time to say "no more." As always, I hope that something I've said landed on your heart. Please feel free to connect with me about it over Instagram (or text or email if you know me, whatever!) and I hope you take some time soon to: -Practice self awareness/body check ins -Remind yourself that you're worthy of unknown, incredible outcomes -Take yourself on a date to congratulate yourself on all of the awesome human-ing you've been doing lately :) xoxo Your Messy Friend :) --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kayleigh-shuler/message
Hi friends - omw out the door to a job I ~*manifested*~ back in 2020. Tune in to hear about that, the power of believing in yourself and why you shouldn't wait to be an ophthalmologist. **I will be doing another episode addressing this, but just want to say here: I speak to the immense joy and liberation I feel living as an out, loud 'n proud queer. I want to acknowledge that this speaks to my privilege, and that I am very lucky to be able to live my truth so freely. There are so many valid reasons that people can't or struggle to come out. Please know this: it is enough to know it and feel proud of yourself. It is enough to whisper to yourself "... I'm gay (or an ophthalmologist) and I know it." I am proud of you, and love you for being here. xoxo Your Messy Friend :) --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kayleigh-shuler/message
Hi my messy friends :) Today's episode is full of deep breaths and giggly tangents about talking more kindly to ourselves, and the value of checking in with how we're feeling. I hope you'll talk to yourself like someone you love today (ahem) and let yourself know how appreciated you are. You're doing great. Tune in for more short episodes! It only took 22 days of overthinking it to post this raw, unedited episode... but here we are! I did it! Go me :) In today's episode we'll take a tangential stroll through topics such as how we talk to ourselves, how a need to be liked can lead to resentment (dun dun DUN) and the powers getting vulnerable and asking for help. Grab a cozy blanket and your favorite seasonal beverage (or, you know, Gatorade) and join me as I sip some cold apple cider (ah, so fresh) and get us in our feels. Thanks to all of you, my messy friends, for listening and connecting with me. I appreciate you. Hello my messy friends! I am back with another wonderful guest this week! We met at the workshop I mentioned in last week's episode, On Being Human by Jen Pastiloff. We cried and hugged and sang and held hands and, luckily, connected on Instagram afterward. *TW - Discussion of miscarriages and depression. My guest, Allison, has experienced some of the most painful grief imaginable - that of losing a child. I am so grateful to her for being brave and generous enough to share her feelings about this with us. I know I learned so much about grief and healing in this conversation, and I hope you will too. Thank you, Allison. She is a writer, researcher, published memoir editor and medicine woman, and inspires the people in her life with raw, authentic and truly relatable takes on mental health, what it means to own our fears and the meaning of grief. Also a Reiki practitioner and yoga teacher, this woman knows a thing or two about healing. She offers coaching through her website wearelivingbravely.com where you can also find her blog, Bravely, and her podcast Braving the Storm. Hi, welcome to the podcast... I'm Your Messy Friend :) It's just you and me this week, friend. I'm back after a week of recuperating from burn out, and in this week's episode I share the story of how a podcast episode changed my life, the "why" behind my work and the village it has taken to get me here. I hope you'll join me in answering the following prompts this week: 1) What qualities do I desire in my relationships? 2) What do I need to feel good right now? All of these impressive accomplishments aside, my guest today is funny, quick-witted, kind and deeply intuitive. Hi, welcome to the podcast... I'm Your Messy Friend :) My very first guest once cut off all my hair, convinced me to dangle him out of a two story window and ran away with me on multiple occasions. In this episode, Ryan and I discuss his "minor case of autism", the relationship between alcohol and anxiety, why it's important to have compassion for others and his wild, fantasy, imaginary dream life.
