My guest, journalist Alex Hannaford, has interviewed murderers, serial killers, and even wrongly convicted felons who are on death row. He conducted these interviews for the 'Dead Man Talking' series of his true crime podcast 'Huddled Masses.'  Today, I'm interviewing him.  What's it like coming face to face with a serial killer? Does going to death row change your views on the death penalty? How does this work affect your personal life?  Alex describes his experience of talking to the people that society has classed as ‘evil', and how easy it is to humanise them when seeing them face to face.  We also talk about the justice there is in the death penalty, and whether it is a desirable law enforcement measure.  Finally, we discuss the recent election and the way it turned into some kind of Trump referendum... “For every ten people executed in America, one person is freed with evidence of their innocence. In this episode the interview tape reveals another confession: Resendiz claims he killed “three or four” people on the border of Arizona and California. Although he can’t remember the name of the town, he’s precise about the location. It’s Blythe, California, and Alex goes there to investigate. There, he meets the local police chief, and plays him Resendiz’s confession. His response: “I believe him, and I’ll show you why.” Presented by [Alex Hannaford](http://alexhannaford.com/) and produced by [Peter Sale](https://www.petersale.co.uk/)

In 1998, two people were sentenced to life in prison for murder. Diamantina Kolojaco was found guilty of persuading her young lover to kill her husband for the insurance money. But a year after she went to prison, serial killer Angel Resendiz wrote to her from death row with a message: that he had committed the murder. In this episode Alex interviews Diamantina in prison — her first ever media interview. Could an innocent couple die in prison for a murder Resendiz committed? DEAD MAN TALKING PODCAST - Hosted by Alex Hannaford Angel Resendiz aka The Railroad Killer criss-crossed the US by freight train in the 80s and 90s, choosing his victims at random, before he was executed by the State of Texas in 2006. Before his death, Rezendiz spoke to journalist Alex Hannaford and claimed, on tape, to have killed more than he had taken the blame for. The authorities said Angel Resendiz was lying in an attempt to delay his own death. But, haunted by the crackly interview tape, Alex is determined to investigate. Then a letter arrives from a woman serving life in prison for her husband’s murder — telling him that Resendiz once confessed to that killing too.
