In this episode we're talking about a Mexican serial killer who rode freight trains across the U.S., Ángel Maturino Reséndiz. Media nicknamed him the Railroad Killer, and he was at one point the FBI's most wanted fugitive. The FBI linked Resendiz to 15 murders across several states in the 1990s — with only one survivor to tell the tale. Reséndiz escaped capture several times by being voluntarily deported back to Mexico, it would take the FBI and the Railroad Killer's own sister to finally bring him down in 1999. Holly Dunn tells her account of the August 29, 1997 attack on the railroad tracks by the University of Kentucky. Chris Maier was killed and Holly Dunn, who was stabbed, beaten and raped, miraculously survived her injuries. Fourteen months after Holly's attack, Dr. Claudia Benton was murdered inside her Houston, TX area home, located near railroad tracks. Lexington Detective Craig Sorrell received a call from ViCAP, a national crime registry database, linking the crimes. Through fingerprint analysis, they identified a suspect.
The residence of 39-year-old Claudia Benton was broken into by a savage intruder. The mother of two, had been brutally beaten, sexually assaulted, and fatally stabbed. The killer was a man named Ángel Reséndiz who had been illegally boarding trains across the US border from Mexico for over 20 years. He would go on to kill at least nine people, but capturing Reséndiz would prove to be one of the FBI's most challenging cases. Original music by Kai Engel, Ben Krejci, and Lee Rosevere. Hello and welcome back! In today's episode, we talk all about the life and crimes of the infamous Railroad Killer. Angel Maturino Reséndiz was a Mexican citizen who routinely snuck his way into the United States over the span of decades in order to inflict terror and commit heinous crimes across the country and under the cover of the many trains he hopped to get from place to place. Reséndiz struck without discrimination or timidity across the whole United States but what he wasn't counting on was one of his victims surviving. After surviving a horrifying assault, Holly Dunn found a way to keep pushing forward, proving that the power of love and courage is far more powerful than any serial killer could ever dream to be. On December 17, 1998, a 39 year old prominent clinical geneticist at the Baylor College of Medicine in West University Place, Texas, is raped, stabbed, and bludgeoned to death at her home by an intruder. When investigators find the victim's Jeep Cherokee in San Antonio, a stranger's fingerprints are on the steering column. It wouldn't be until at least six month later, in June 1999, that law enforcement would apprehend the killer. Tragically, by this stage he'd killed another six people across two states. But the body count was far greater than anyone initially realised. In episode 212, Jac and Alexis detail the disturbing case of Angel Resendiz, a violent offender who became known as the Railroad Killer, and struck terror into the hearts of railroad communities across Florida, Kentucky, Texas, Georgia, IIlinois, and as far west as California.
topics we discuss:1. "The Railroad Killer." a Mexican national that travelled the country by train and left bodies wherever he went. 2. "Holy Macaroni." An Italian man escapes from a cult with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was the lucky one...3. The Navy Yard Shooting of 2018. Crazed gunman or remote controlled assassin?
People who were on or lived near the railroad tracks in Kentucky and Texas were killed by a man who traveled the rails. He sexually assaulted and killed at least eight people before he was identified and eventually turned himself in. The man was Mexican national Angel Raphael Resendez-Ramirez, aka the Railroad Killer.

Bonus episode with Mike y'all. This week we are starting with the debrief and will continue next week with a part 2 debrief as well. We will be covering Angel Maturino Resendiz also known as "The Railroad Killer". There is a lot of info to cover on this one so we thought we would just team up for both episodes. Resendiz put fear into all communities that he visited. The people of these communities had good reason to be afraid. Everywhere Resendiz would travel, and victim would fall. His crimes were brutal and some unthinkable. Check it out and be looking for next week's episode.
Angel Leoncio Recendiz aka The Railroad Killer who, throughout the 90s, brutally and I mean brutally raped and murdered 16 people but is suspected of killing as many as 23 or more. He was known as The Railroad Killer because of his penchant for riding the rails around the United States choosing his victims simply based on how close to the railroad tracks their homes were. For almost 13 years he traveled the country choosing victims at random raping, murdering, and then robbing innocent men and women before either jumping back on the train or stealing their vehicle and dumping it in San Antonio Texas before sneaking back across the border into Mexico until his next murderous expedition into the US. After a short stint on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list, Resendiz turned himself in to Texas authorities before being convicted of murder and sentenced to death. In 2006, Resendiz paid his debt to society with his life by lethal injection in the Huntsville Unit in Huntsville Texas. Angel Reséndiz had an uncontrollable desire to kill.
As promised, we are talking today about the serial killer from Episode 266. In that episode, we focused on the only survivor of his crimes, Holly Dunn. Today, we take a walk through all of his crimes. Throughout the 80's and 90's, Angel Maturino Resendiz was one of the most brutal killers the United States had ever seen. Known by the media as the Railroad Killer, he stalked victims nears railroad tracks before brutally butchering them either next to the tracks or in their own homes. His mode of operation involved sexual assault and a gruesome amount of overkill. He moved freely between his home in Mexico and the States before finally being caught through fingerprints and SNA. After a reign of terror that was as prolific as it was terrorizing, he was fortunately coerced into turning himself into authorities in 1999. My guest, journalist Alex Hannaford, has interviewed murderers, serial killers, and even wrongly convicted felons who are on death row. He conducted these interviews for the 'Dead Man Talking' series of his true crime podcast 'Huddled Masses.' Today, I'm interviewing him. What's it like coming face to face with a serial killer? Does going to death row change your views on the death penalty? How does this work affect your personal life? Alex describes his experience of talking to the people that society has classed as ‘evil', and how easy it is to humanise them when seeing them face to face. We also talk about the justice there is in the death penalty, and whether it is a desirable law enforcement measure. Finally, we discuss the recent election and the way it turned into some kind of Trump referendum... “For every ten people executed in America, one person is freed with evidence of their innocence.
