Money decisions are rarely just about math. The hardest part is often the human side. Rafael Melendez of NextGen Financial Planning joins us to discuss how fee-only financial planning helps younger families move from stress and uncertainty to confident, intentional decisions. We explore Rafael's path into the profession, what he learned from sales-driven environments, and how those experiences shaped his client-first approach. We also break down what “fee-only” really means and why it can be a great fit for people who need planning guidance without having millions invested.Rafael shares his journey from joining NextGen during the pandemic to becoming a partner as the firm evolved. We discuss firm ownership, balancing growth with flexibility, and his advice for aspiring RIA owners: design the life you want first, then build the business around it.We also walk through a real-world planning scenario involving a high-stress job, stock compensation, student loans, and the decision to earn less in exchange for a better quality of life.Subscribe for more conversations like this, share with a planner friend, and leave a review. We discuss the impact of childhood beliefs on money, the transition from physical to mental wealth, and the significance of surrounding oneself with successful individuals. The conversation also touches on the transformative effects of COVID on career choices and the necessity of sharing knowledge and experiences in the financial realm. The episode concludes with a role-playing exercise on financial conversations and a discussion on the true definition of financial freedom.Key Points:- Money is just a tool for good or bad.- Childhood beliefs shape our money mindset.- Understanding tax strategies is essential.- You must unlock the future version of yourself.- Financial professionals often have limited knowledge of broader strategies.- Unconscious spending habits can lead to financial mismanagement.- Building a supportive network can enhance financial success.- Financial freedom is defined by passive income supporting lifestyle expenses.About our guest: Justyn Melendez is a Financial Architect, Investor, and Founder of Intentional Wealth and NextGen Legacy Group, where he designs and deploys strategic wealth systems for individuals and business owners seeking to scale beyond traditional financial limitations. He focuses on capital allocation, investment structuring, and private market opportunities, with an emphasis on assets that generate cash flow, tax efficiency, and long-term equity growth. Through his work, Justyn has been directly involved in structuring and raising capital for high-value investment opportunities, positioning investors to participate in deals typically not accessible to the average individual. Rather than teaching conventional financial advice, Justyn challenges the way people think about money—shifting them from earn-and-save mindsets to strategic ownership, capital deployment, and cash flow optimization. He is also the founder of the Intentional Wealth Mastermind, a community designed for individuals committed to increasing their financial IQ, expanding their network, and building generational wealth through aligned action. Outside of business, Justyn serves as a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army, where his leadership experience reinforces his disciplined approach to execution, risk management, and long-term strategy. Get Dr. Vonda's latest insights on strength, bone health, longevity, and aging with power delivered straight to your inbox. Join her free health & longevity newsletter here: https://www.drvondawright.com/resources/aging-longevity   There's a quiet shift many women notice in midlife that rarely gets talked about in the doctor's office, changes in their mouth. Gums that feel more sensitive. Teeth that suddenly seem fragile. Dryness, inflammation, or dental issues that appear despite "doing everything right." I sat down with Dr. Carlos Melendez, a general dentist and practice owner, to talk about what really happens to oral health during perimenopause and menopause, and why women are so often left without explanation when changes begin. Women are frequently told that dental issues are about hygiene alone, or that worsening gum or tooth problems are just "bad luck." This conversation matters because it reframes oral health as part of whole-body health. When women understand the hormonal and physiological drivers behind these changes, they're empowered to protect not just their smiles, but their overall health as they age.   We examine how this topic shows up in daily life: - How hormonal shifts in menopause affect gum tissue, bone, and oral inflammation - Why dry mouth becomes more common and why it matters for tooth and gum health - The connection between estrogen loss, bone density, and jawbone health - How chronic inflammation in the mouth can impact whole-body health - Why routine dental changes in midlife deserve deeper evaluation, not dismissal - How preventive dental care needs to evolve during perimenopause and menopause - Why collaboration between medical and dental care is essential for aging well About Dr. Carlos Melendez: Dr. Carlos Melendez is a general dentist and practice owner with extensive experience caring for adult patients across all life stages. His work focuses on preventive care, patient education, and understanding how systemic health directly impacts oral health, especially in midlife and beyond. We're 10 days into the 31 Days of Halloween and I feel like we need a palate cleanser. Recently, we've been talking about reanimating dead bodies, torturous twins, eating warm pizza off of cold corpses. I think it's time we take the holiday back to a more innocent, nostalgic time, where we only concern ourselves with what costume we're gonna wear and how much candy we can score.IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN is a 1966 TV special directed by José Cuauhtémoc "Bill" Melendez starring Charles M. Schulz' gallery of PEANUTS characters: Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Sally, Snoopy, the works.Linus, in lieu of trick-or-treating, elects to spend his Halloween night sitting in the pumpkin patch, waiting for The Great Pumpkin to arrive and give him a pile of presents. It's a reward for sincerity. Most of the others think Linus is crazy for believing in a C-grade Santa, but there's something admirable in Linus' valuing honesty of one's motives rather than the transactional element of trading "goodness" for material wealth. The movie operates more like a hodge-podge of PEANUTS strips and gags than as its own singular narrative but much like the ways in which memory flashes through our heads, the mosaic of musings about Halloween and the fall season leads to a highly emotional, nostalgic appreciation for the good times.Though if anyone were to ever give my kid a rock instead of candy, I'd slingshot that fucker through their teeth.---Follow, rate and review THE MOVIES wherever you listen to podcasts!Follow THE MOVIES on Instagram, Bluesky & Letterboxd

This week Steve and Yvonne interview Tom Bosworth of Bosworth Law (https://tombosworthlaw.com/).   Remember to rate and review GTP in iTunes: Click Here to Rate and Review   View/Download Trial Documents   Case Details: Attorney Tom Bosworth achieved a historic milestone by becoming the youngest lawyer in Pennsylvania to secure an eight-figure jury verdict as the lead counsel in a medical malpractice case for a living client. The case involved a medical malpractice victim who was awarded a $19.7 million verdict by a Philadelphia jury, due to a failure to diagnose. After years of seeing the same primary care physician, a woman's complaints about back pain and other symptoms were repeatedly dismissed. She sought the help of a neurologist, who discovered a mass on her spine. Unfortunately, the mass had already caused several complications, including incontinence, pain, and difficulty walking. As a result, she was left partially paralyzed and unable to continue working.   Guest Bio: Thomas Bosworth At age 33, Tom Bosworth became the youngest lawyer in the history of Pennsylvania to obtain a jury verdict in excess of $10 million for a living client as lead counsel (the total verdict being over $19 million). Three months prior to that, after two weeks as lead counsel at trial, Bosworth secured a $7 million settlement on behalf of a mother whose mentally disabled adult son wrongfully died in a group home. Bosworth also obtained multiple non-monetary terms in this settlement that were only agreed to by the defendant after two weeks of trial. In the past 5 years, Bosworth has been counsel on various additional jury trials and settlements totaling over $80 million. These cases included ones for medical malpractice, product liability, and wrongful death.   Recently, Bosworth was designated by the independent attorney group Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Pennsylvania, a designation reserved for the top 2.5 percent of attorneys in the state who are 40 or younger or practicing 10 years or less. Bosworth attended Temple University Beasley School of Law from where he graduated in 2016 with magna cum laude and Order of the Coif distinction. During law school, Bosworth participated as a member of Temple's nationally ranked Trial Team and as a Research Editor of the Temple Law Review. Following law school, Bosworth was a law clerk to the Honorable Lawrence Stengel in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Six years ago this week, a young person radicalized by anti-immigrant rhetoric, armed with an AR-15, entered a Walmart in El Paso. He murdered 23 human beings, and he physically injured another 22. He changed the lives of millions. On that same day, Stephanie Melendez's parents had volunteered to take her eldest daughter shopping. Stephanie's dad, David Johnson, saved the lives of his wife and granddaughter. He was one of the 23 killed at the Walmart in El Paso on a random day in the United States.   On today's episode of Shared Humanity: The Humans Behind the Headlines, Melendez remembers her father. She talks to host Nelba Márquez-Greene about how her family is doing in their "new regular" (with the help of a biker organization), coping with a mass tragedy motivated by hatred, and how she talks to her children about what happened.   When asked how we can best honor her dad, Melendez said, "Just be kind and don't forget."   Listen to their full conversation now wherever you get your podcasts.   Link from this episode: https://guardiansofthechildren.com/   Learn more about Shared Humanity: https://sph.yale.edu/sharedhumanity

Watching KU get worked over by BYU was completely shocking to the system as it appeared the players just didn't care.  It was awful.  "Embarrassed" is the word Bill Self used and said of his traveling party, "we all need to get away from each other."   This may not be the Titanic but KU's ship sure has crashed into an iceberg in the NIL era of college hoops.    President Trump and Elon Musk sit down for a joint interview that was just incredible to watch.  We'll tell you what they said and why it matters.   Who are the pilots of the Delta flight that crashed?  Here's a prediction, Canadian officials will now start pushing the weather as a problem before they tell us who the pilots are.  Don't believe it.    Kansas Governor Laura Kelly gets embarrassed with a veto override as Kansas kids will now be safe from unnecessary genital mutilation and puberty blockers.    Mizzou has a huge test against Bama Wednesday night.  MJ Melendez has a new swing at spring training.  A high school in Maine defies Trump's transgender sports executive order and finger lickin' good is now a Texas thing.
