We're living in challenging times with an escalating climate disaster devastating communities from Texas and Louisiana to Richmond, CA. Few institutions are as responsible for these crisis as Wall Street and Big Insurance companies. We're also living in a time where large numbers of people have taken to the streets to confront those responsible for these crises. Moderated by Green and Red co-host, and long time climate finance campaigner, Scott Parkin, this panel discussed the role of major financial institutions in providing loans, investments and insurance to fossil fuel companies destroying communities from the Gulf South to Richmond, CA, and about the resistance to these companies. Panelist Bios//* Christa Mancias is the Executive Director for The Carrizo Comecrudo Tribe of Texas. She has spent many years in the movement along with her family and relatives fighting for Native Indigenous rights and Environmental justice. She continues to help with the Frontline Fights against Border Wall issues, LNG Terminals, Pipelines, Fracking, SpaceX and the continuous destruction and erasure of the Carrizo Comecurdo's Sacred Sites throughout Texas. *James Hiatt has more than a decade of firsthand experience in the petrochemical industry, he understands the tough choices many workers face—trying to make a living while dealing with the impacts these industries have on health and the environment. Born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana, his deep connection to the community inspired him to seek a better way forward. In 2023, he founded For a Better Bayou, a nonprofit focused on helping Southwest Louisiana shift away from extraction-based industries toward a more sustainable, community-focused economy.* Mary Mijares is a first-generation immigrant born in the Philippinesand raised in Richmond, CA. As a campaigner for Amazon Watch, Mary seeks to uplift the demands and support the resistance of Indigenous organizations across the Amazon basin in international campaigns that challenge the fossil fuel industry and its financiers.*Connie Lu began her organizing journey as a student at Dartmouth College, where she was part of the successful campaign to divest the endowment from fossil fuels. Through a fellowship with the unfortunately now-defunct Divest Ed, she learned about climate finance as a crucial strategic piece of climate justice movements, and why we build people power instead of appealing to elites. The Trump administration has begun issuing contracts for border wall construction. During the first Trump administration, contractors dynamited mountains and depleted groundwater, including the Quitobaquito, a sacred spring for the Tohono O'odham tribal nation, to produce concrete for the wall. Under the Real ID Act, dozens of laws protecting the environment, endangered species, and clean air and water can be waived for the wall's construction. Trump's Department of Homeland Security has already begun filing waivers.Earlier this month, Erick Meza, borderlands coordinator for the Sierra Club Grand Canyon Chapter, discovered that one of the sections slated for the upcoming border wall is southern Arizona's San Rafael Valley, a critical wildlife corridor for endangered species, including jaguars. “It's an ecological catastrophe,” he said of the proposed construction in the grassland valley. Meza spends much of his time traveling the borderlands documenting wildlife and the impacts of the border wall on an ecosystem under extreme stress from climate change and militarization.ShareIn this podcast, Meza discusses the proposed wall construction and its impact on the San Rafael Valley, as well as other areas where the wall is slated to be built. President Trump made securing the U.S. border and deporting illegal immigrants a cornerstone of his campaign, vowing to take strong action to address illegal immigration. Since taking office, he has followed through on that promise by implementing strict border enforcement policies, increasing deportations, and taking significant measures to curb illegal crossings.Despite concerns raised by the previous administration about the potential costs of such an initiative, the actual expense of closing the border has proven to be lower than anticipated. Through a combination of policy changes, increased border security measures, and strategic resource allocation, the administration has effectively reduced illegal immigration while keeping costs manageable. Is the Dow Jones Industrial Average index outdated? All federal spending is taxation What the gov't doesn't take in from tax revenue, it takes via inflation The only way to stop inflation is to lower gov't spending That's what DOGE is doing Low inflation = freedom and prosperity for Americans https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1891414886443319769 Top Auto CEO Says He May Pull Production Out of Mexico If Trump Follows Through on Tariffs The CEO of Nissan has said he may be forced to move production out of Mexico if Donald Trump imposes tariffs on exports. The head of the Japanese automaker made the comments during a press conference on Friday. “From Mexico to the U.S., we are exporting a significant number of cars this fiscal year,” Uchida said, according to Reuters. ”320,000 units are exported from Mexico to the U.S., and if the high tariffs are imposed, we need to be ready for this,” he continued. ”Maybe we can transfer the production of these models elsewhere if this were the decision, we will think how we can make it a reality while monitoring the situation.” Source: thegatewaypundit.com A 1974 federal law forces the President to avoid efficiency and cost savings Average Americans can be forgiven for not understanding how Joe Biden was able to “forgive” student debt and stop Trump's Border Wall construction without pushback from the media, Congress, or the courts, while Trump's efforts to make government more efficient are being blocked at every turn.  The Impoundment and Control Act of 1974 was passed at the height of the Watergate debacle and was a calculated move by Congress to stop Nixon's so-called Imperial Presidency. Understood in its most basic terms, Congress says that if it voted to spend money on something, the president may not change that amount, even if he can achieve the exact same outcome by spending less money. To put it bluntly, the Act says that the president is not allowed to save the country money. As a hypothetical example, assume that Congress has budgeted $1 billion to rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. The President, however, finds a way to re-construct the bridge to the exact specifications laid out by Congress for $500 million, saving half the cost. Under the Act's explicit terms, the president would be barred from this cost-saving approach. He must spend all $1 billion. If this has you scratching your head—well, welcome to the club.

Steve Bannon pleaded guilty on Tuesday to defrauding donors to a private effort to build a wall on the U.S. southern border, ending a case the conservative strategist decried as a "political persecution." Bannon, a longtime ally of President Donald Trump, pleaded guilty in state court in Manhattan to one count of scheme to defraud, a low-level felony. Spared from jail as part of a plea deal, he left court saying he "felt like a million bucks." In this conversation with Jimmy, Bannon insists the prosecution was politically motivated and his relatively light sentence proves how weak the case against him was. Plus segments on Donald Trump initiating negotiations to end the Ukraine War and an interview with former Seattle City Council member and Workers Strike Back founder Kshama Sawant.
