War has decimated society. Scavengers roam the ruins of the cities, fighting each other for what scraps remain. In the countryside, however, there is a flickering hope for mankind’s survival. Segment A: Songs of Virginia Virginia has a rich and intricate history, marked with tales of triumph and tragedy, conflict and compromise. Music and song have long been a means for sharing these stories with younger generations, and today on HearSay Cathy Lewis will include our listeners in this rich oral tradition. You'll hear the rousing sounds of fife and drums and haunting ballads as Virginia historians share the stories and songs that bring our Commonwealth's history to life. Segment B: Pa's Fiddle: Dean Butler In this segment, we'll talk with actor, producer Dean Butler. Butler starred as Almanzo Wilder in the TV series "Little House on the Prairie" and has co-produced the PBS special, "Pa's Fiddle." Laura Ingalls Wilder's father, Charles, would play the fiddle for his family when she was growing up, and that music inspired the narrative for her novels based on her life in Minnesota in the late 1800's. He'll talk about "Little House" and the upcoming music special that features country stars, Randy Travis, Rodney Atkins, Ronnie Milsap, Ashton Shepherd, The Roys, Natalie Grant and Committed (NBC Sing Off Champions), and airs Sunday, June 10th at 8pm on WHRO-TV 15. Dean Butler will also be in the WHRO studios live that night for the program.
