Denn Lifeguard ist der Name, unter dem Asher Case (Bass, Baritongitarre, Gesang), Isaac Lowenstein (Schlagzeug, Synthesizer) und Kai Slater (Gitarre, Gesang) gemeinsam musizieren, und das schon seit ihrer High-School-Zeit. Die ist noch gar nicht so lange her, entsprechend strotzen die Songs vor jugendlichem Überschwang. Ein bisschen als hätten sich die Strokes und die Buzzcocks zu einer gemeinsamen Jam-Session im zugigen, weitläufig-verhallten Keller eines leerstehenden Abrisshauses getroffen, bei der auch kleine Experimente in Dub erlaubt waren. Der scheppernd-schrammelige Garagen-Rock des Trios aus Chicago mit dem Händchen für eingängige Melodien war eine der großen Sensationen der 2023er Ausgabe des renommierten Trüffelschwein-Festivals SXSW – und das, wohlgemerkt, fast zwei Jahre bevor die drei überhaupt ihr erstes Album veröffentlicht hatten. Nun ist es also so weit, und dieses erste Album erscheint morgen, was Lifeguard am selben Tag mit einem Konzert in der Friedrichshainer Neuen Zukunft feiern.
