TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ JOHNNY “D” DE MAIRO (HENRY STREET RECORDS) # 070 - PART 1 Johnny D Demairo in part 1 speaks about his start from his older sister introducing him to disco music and then in 1979 walking into a roller rink and hearing this music as well at the teen disco. At that moment he knew his life changed and wanted to be part of this music thing. He finds Disco and it becomes everything. His young professional career starts as a mobile DJ and it so happens that he asked to DJ at a Sweet 16 for the sister of DJ Danny Cole. That is the big door opener to his first night club Plaza Suite in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. He begins as Danny's Light man. One night Danny steps away from the booth at 12am and gives Johnny his first professional break spinning at the club for two hours and everything from that moment changes instantly.
Maria Bartiromo anchors three different shows on the Fox Business Network and Fox News Channel and was the first TV reporter to broadcast live from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. She doesn’t come from the world of CEOs, however. Back in the 1970s and early 1980s, she was a kid growing up in Dyker Heights and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where she worked the coat check at her father’s restaurant and catering hall, The Rex Manor. Her whole family pitched in there, including her mother, who also had a job at the local OTB (Off-Track Betting). In that world of hard work, family, and sacrifice, what did Maria learn that would help her break through the doors of the Stock Exchange? What lessons she absorbed from her family and hometown remain with the Maria we see in the world of cable news today? Join Kevin Burke at the intersection of place, time, and memory for another episode of Your Hometown. Your Hometown is a show where the local is the epic. It's a floppy fedora. When I put it on I can HEAR a song. And Indiana Jones rides again. Indy wasn't a super hero. He was a basic, plain guy who might have been from my Bay Ridge Brooklyn neighborhood back in, "The Day." Except for that whip. Give a listen. It may put an imaginary Happy Hat on you too.

From our Pastors Prayer Summit 2019, Pastor Justin Mattera, Zion NYC, Bay Ridge Brooklyn, NY, shared on “The Lord of Hosts”. Psalm 23:5 says “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” Psalm 25 says that God prepares a table before our enemies, but some pastors today have sacrificed the truth of God for a false peace that allows the lies of the enemies to stand. Pastor Justin says, "the main sins of his generation of pastors is that we don’t want enemies, even the enemies the gospel creates. As leaders, we cannot compromise the gospel in order to stave off our enemies.
