Jesus's mother, Mary, modeled how we ought to live; treasuring the present, holding onto God's promises, and trusting that Emmanuel, God with us, is something we can continue to count on in the future. In this message, Pastor Justin reminds us that peace isn't found after circumstances change, but when we seek God's nearness, even in uncertainty. Instead of striving to control outcomes, we're invited to slow down, recognize God's presence, and receive the peace He offers... even before all the answers arrive.

n this message, Pastor Justin explores a part of the Christmas story we often overlook: the Flight to Egypt in Matthew 2. While we usually focus on the joy of the wise men, Scripture reveals that Jesus arrived right in the middle of deep darkness, political threat, and injustice. Join us as we meditate on a God who does not remain distant but enters into exile with us, weeps over our grief, and offers a hope that will one day wipe away every tear.
When the shepherds heard the news of Jesus' birth, they chose urgency over hesitation.Once the angels spoke, the shepherds moved! In this message, Pastor Justin challenges us to see how God often works through ordinary people and everyday moments, calling us to respond quickly, step out in faith, and share the gospel - even when it's inconvenient. The heart of the message is a simple but challenging prayer; to ask God to give you a heart that responds with urgency!
The first-century Roman Empire faced the same kinds of injustices that we face today: growing inequality between the rich and the poor, abusive oppression by those in power, and a disregard for decency and civility. John the Baptist's message is not just spiritual in nature; it has real-life, real-world implications for today. Questions:1. What jumped out at you from the text?2. John says to bear fruit worthy of repentance. How do you understand repentance?3. What obstacles do you see in your life? Community's and world's? Name some ways you have repented in your life that have resulted in fruit.4. How does John's understanding of repentance draw you and our church near to justice?Find out more and connect with us at HydeParkUMC.org/NextSteps

Sunday, December 14, 2025 – Guest speaker Pastor Nate Boven delivered a timely message titled “Different Seasons Bring Different Roles.” As Center Point Assembly prepares to invite their new pastor in a few weeks, Pastor Nate encourages us all to look for the new roles we may be asked to play as Pastor Justin and his wife, Kari, take on their new positions. What makes the message so powerful is the added dynamic of maintaining the unity and peace that spiritual maturity provides. If a part of the body rebels and rejects the roles they are asked to fulfill, the whole body suffers—just as if one drops a heavy object on the big toe, the entire body feels the pain. Worship and study with us as we seek to understand and embrace the roles this new season may bring.

This message looks at Mary's encounter with the angel and the way she surrendered her plans, expectations, and fears to God's purpose.Pastor Justin teaches how real faith begins when we lay down control, and trust God's Word over our feelings... even when His call disrupts the life we imagined. Often times these single moments of surrender can have amazing, life-changing, destiny-shaping, eternity-spanning, results. This message is an invitation to release what you're holding onto and say, like Mary, “Let it be unto me according to your word."

In one of the most dramatic turns in Matthew's Gospel, Peter confesses Jesus as the Christ at the very gates of hell. Pastor Justin unpacks how Jesus builds his Church not on perfection but on revelation—and how he calls every disciple to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow him.
When David danced before the Lord, he didn't care who was watching. His worship was real, raw, and completely undignified. In this message, Pastor Justin challenges us to stand out in a world obsessed with fitting in, to live unashamed of our faith, and to worship with boldness that refuses to bow to cultural pressure. If you've ever struggled with fear of judgment or the temptation to compromise, this one's for you.
