In Episode 39 of Cards and Cubes, we talk about some recent experiences in the board game online world, and then go into some games we've played like Village Green, My Village, Targi, 7 Wonders Duel: Agora, and Fast Sloths. Then, we have an extensive discussion about the evolution of deck building in board games - from first experiences like Dominion, Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, through developments involving games like Tyrants of the Underdark, Clank!: A Deck-Building Adventure, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle, Arctic Scavengers, Great Western Trail, Blackout: Hong Kong, Mombasa, Super Motherload, Famiglia, Grifters, Viscounts of the West Kingdom, Concordia, Transatlantic, Gloomhaven, Bloodborne: The Card Game, Cry Havoc, Shards of Infinity, Rune Stones, and The Taverns of Tiefenthal. We finish the discussion with kind of a back-and-forth discussion between Lost Ruins of Arnak and Dune: Imperium. Welcome good Hunters to this dream! For our first episode back from the holiday break we will be discussing the Bloodborne inspired card game along with the subsequent expansion "The Hunter's Nightmare". 

In episode 12 the HF&P crew tackles important topics like hard copy vs. e-books, and the resurgence of vinyl (not really). Myron has been busy playing a new Switch game called Darkest Dungeon. It’s a hardcore turn-based strategy game where characters die all the time, so don’t get attached. Characters die from seemingly any cause, including fear, stress, insanity, heart-attack, and the usual causes of death like monsters, disease, traps... Anna and Myron tried Bloodborne: The Card Game by CMON for the first time. Both agreed that the game could be fun with the right group of players who were more interested in having fun than crushing. Based on the video game, your goal in the card game is to bank the most blood tokens to win the game. Players have to strategically decide when to attack versus bank blood, or as Tom describes: “a twisted version of Sonic the Hedgehog.” While everyone starts with the same deck, as each player rests to bank blood tokens they are able to shop for new utility powers that increase attack power, add buffs etc. Ultimately players who can deal the most damage and strategically skip rounds to make deposits in the blood bank will win. Finally, Tom reports that he finally beat the Rebel Challenge in Galaxy of Heroes. By far this was the hardest challenge for him so far. He shares some tips with JT on his final winning strategy, but JT doesn’t seem too enthusiastic about trying it again. Stay tuned to future episodes to find out if she manages to beat the challenge.
