We're a podcast! Therefore, we're contractually obligated to tell you our Games of the Year. But who wants to hear just Christina and Shoe squabble about their faves of 2022? Everyone would rather hear us and Mik and Starla from Our Family Plays Games squabble, so far be it for us to withhold this top-notch content from our listeners! So get ready for lots of discussions (and lots of yelling at Christina for cheating on her picks) in this episode! Timeline: Intro (before we get into the awards): 2:32 - Starla's game pick: Wonderland's War. 4:40 - Mik's game pick: Heat: Pedal to the Metal. 5:55 - Shoe's game pick: Keystone: North America. 8:37 - Christina's game pick: Blackout: Hong Kong. The 2022 Games of the Year: 10:35 - Party games of 2022. 23:32 - Light games of 2022. 35:44 - Medium games of 2022. 50:22 - Heavy games of 2022. Check out website to read the list of winners! *Note: Our Family Plays Games is still working on their own Games of 2022, so their picks for this show are "as of today" but not necessarily final. Also, some games appear in different categories due to everyone's subjective opinions on weight.

Clark Bender (in Elf form) of the Board Game Times podcast It's the end of the year so for the 17th episode of Board Game Times we figured we'd give the guests a rest and make host Clark Bender do all the work! This episode Clark talks about some of his top games and gaming experiences in 2021 and -- instant Karma -- he has to answer the minigame questionnaire all on his own! Finally, Charles Dickens and the Marvel Universe are together at last. Ebenezer Scrooge uses time travel to explore alternate universes. Oliver Twist uses super speed to take the final bowl of porridge. Dr. Manette spends years of non-existence, only to return later to a changed world. Marvel: United may make us believers in cooperative play or it may turn to dust on our shelves. We're also discussing how expectations shift our enjoyment of board games. Hoy recuperamos una de nuestras secciones que estaban escondidas en el cajón, las dendrocronologías, para analizar el historico de juegos del gran Alexander Pfister. Today we hang with Mr. Pfister, or at least we make nice with his design pedigree, as we review Cloudage, a strange mash-up between Pfister's lite push-your-luck fare and his heavy deterministic euros. Does this comingling of randomness and strategy work? Find out! Then, as if we're inspired by Cloudage's stickers, rulebook, orange sherbert color palette, and cloudy card sleeves, we discuss our production pet peeves. In Episode 39 of Cards and Cubes, we talk about some recent experiences in the board game online world, and then go into some games we've played like Village Green, My Village, Targi, 7 Wonders Duel: Agora, and Fast Sloths. Then, we have an extensive discussion about the evolution of deck building in board games - from first experiences like Dominion, Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, through developments involving games like Tyrants of the Underdark, Clank!: A Deck-Building Adventure, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle, Arctic Scavengers, Great Western Trail, Blackout: Hong Kong, Mombasa, Super Motherload, Famiglia, Grifters, Viscounts of the West Kingdom, Concordia, Transatlantic, Gloomhaven, Bloodborne: The Card Game, Cry Havoc, Shards of Infinity, Rune Stones, and The Taverns of Tiefenthal. We finish the discussion with kind of a back-and-forth discussion between Lost Ruins of Arnak and Dune: Imperium. Episode 43 - Spot it!, Teotihuacan, Pandemic Legacy Season 2 They say never work with kids or animals. Well, we put that to the test on this episode as we hand the show over to our kids to tell us about their favourite games. In Sizzling Games, Dan has been trying to work out the maths behind Spot It!, Steve has been building a tribute to the Gods in Teotihuacan, and Adrian can't tell us anything about Pandemic Legacy Season 2. Our Topic of the Week is kids games for 5-9yr olds. First, we enlist Finn, Jack and Rafael to talk about their favourite games, but manage to wrestle control of the show before things get out of hand. Then we settle in to discuss some of the best kids games out there on the market, what to look for in a kid's game, and how to find the right game for your kids. In Round 2 of the Boardgame Bracket we settle the winner from the 5 Minute Dungeon vs Spirit Island match-up before Mitch pops in to defend Too Many Bones against Adrian's It's A Wonderful World. Finally, in Swear An Oath Dan and Adrian let down the side (again) by leaving Blackout: Hong Kong and Nemo's War unfulfilled. They did, however, complete Quacks of Quedlinburg and Welcome To, and Steve fulfilled Architects of the West Kingdom and 7 Wonders Duel. And new oaths are committed with Pendulum (Adrian), Towers of Arkhanos (Dan), and Trismagistus (Adrian) Sizzling Games: Spot It! Savukārt Toms sacels traci Orveliskā dzīvnieku fermā un stāstīs par ģimenei draudzīgo My Little Scythe.

It's that time of the month again - time to dig in and check out the hotness for January. But first off, we're psyched to announce that we've hit our goal on Patreon to launch our weekly contests! Back us at patreon.com/bga to join the party! First up, we ask everyone the question of the week: With so many reprints and reimplementations lately, what do you still have on your grail game list? For our acquisition disorders this week, Anthony digs into a line of Imperial Settlers and Detective content coming from Portal Games and Chris looks at the new expansion for Food Chain Magnate recently added to the Splotter website. At the table, Anthony reviews Blackout: Hong Kong and Chris finally gets a chance to bring Newton to the table. Finally, in our feature, we dig through the top 15 games on BGG and share why they are on the hotness this month. Solo Manolo spielt viel allein. Er spielt auch gern allein. Zumindest Brettspiele. In this jam-packed episode Chris, Darrell, and TC make up for lost time (almost a month since the last episode!) by talking about those modern classics that are influential but are just plain played out and don't hit the table anymore. All this, plus the bleeding edge of Essen Hotness like Blackout: Hong Kong, Underwater Cities, and Carpe Diem, unfortunate Keyforge deck names, listener shoutouts, Newton, more game theory, & more!
Serious question: Have we ever had this many charming board games on one podcast? Has ANYONE? In this episode Matt and Quinns discuss the twin games of Cockroach Salad and Cockroach Soup, as well as Neon Gods, Men at Work, Targi, Lisboa and Blackout: Hong Kong.

It's that time, and we roll the dice and lay out the games that have caught our attention in this year's Essen preview show. First we cover 10 games nominated by our guild using a complex and patented formula. Then we each take a shot at adding five games of our own discovery. Throw in some expansion discussion, and you have a show of partially educated guessing that is sure to wow even the most cynical gamer. Welcome to spooktacular October episodes! This week, we're delving deep into the very best of the best in mystery games, featuring our Top 10. Before we dive in, though, make sure you take the time to enter our October contest - tell us your top 20 games and be entered for a chance to win one of the games on the final top 20 listener games list. https://gleam.io/jwEDM/your-top-20-board-games-of-all-time First up on the episode, we asked our question of the week, "is there a set time each year you review and cull your collection, or is it more spontaneous (or for the hoarders among us, myself included, do you put it off indefinitely)?" For our acquisition disorders this week, Anthony is looking at the newest game from Alexander Pfister, Blackout: Hong Kong and Chris looks at Concordia Venus, a new spin on the Mac Gerdts modern classic. At the Table, Anthony reviews both the new version of Manhattan, recently rereleased with beautiful new components, as well as CMON's Way of the Panda, a panda-filled take on worker placement mechanics. Chris then reviews Merlin with its current Queenie expansions and the Palace of Mad King Ludwig. Finally, the guys look at their top 10 mystery games, with some spooky, some super hard, and some just plain perfect for this time of year. Question of the Week: 4:48 Acquisition Disorders: 9:23 Manhattan Review:14:23 Way of the Panda Review: 18:45 Merlin Review: 26:54 Palace of Mad King Ludwig Review: 32:37 Top 10 Mystery Games:38:09 If you haven’t yet, be sure to connect with us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/boardgamersanonymous), Twitter (http://twitter.com/bgapodcast), and on our website (www.boardgamersanonymous.com).
