Lawmakers in Ohio passed a bill to make it easier to frack in state parks, raising fears of pollution and disruption of outdoor recreation. We also follow up on the massive gas leak at a Cambria County storage site where the company failed to clean up oil and gas brine spilled on the ground. Plus, we head out on a walk with Tree Pittsburgh to learn how to identify trees in the winter. We also have news about fines for a contractor for dumping gas waste around Fayette County, air pollution violations at Shell's new ethane cracker, and a new program to help farmers make money. And, we find out why Cabot Oil and Gas, which just pleaded no contest to 15 criminal charges, including nine felonies for polluting drinking water in Dimock, Pa., is allowed to frack under the town.

Almost none of the Left’s climate predictions have come true! A civilian climate corps has been formed to help battle the "climate emergency." John Kerry has invested in Cabot Oil and Gas Corporation. Man wears an entire greenhouse on his head instead of a mask. A Buddhist monk chops off his head to aid in his travels in the afterlife. Someone bursts into a Costco and remarks on the tyranny of still wearing masks. A group of protesters wear sheep masks into a store to make a statement. A stage play had the entirety of the people inside wearing masks, including the actors! Masks and now COVID test swabs are being made in unsanitary environments. The CEO of Peloton, John Foley, does a turnaround and recalls the company's treadmills due to safety concerns. Herd immunity is now apparently not applicable to COVID any more. People suspect Joe Biden wants to keep the mask mandate for at least another year. The CDC has now equated all the side effects from the vaccines with personal anxieties. Welcome back to another episode! This week's episode is our First Friday Q&A for September. You ask the questions and we answer them. Big thanks to everyone who wrote in. If you want to get a question answered for next month's FFQA, click the link below. Enjoy! Have a question? Click here to ask Show Notes & Links:   Questions: Hey guys,  Sorry to bug you. I just wanted to say thank you for putting me in contact with Brady Reece. I just finished going through the interview process and am going to intern at their firm next summer. I also can't tell you how helpful the show has been in learning about the industry, I look forward to it each week. Thank you again for taking the time to help out, I really appreciate it.  New listener, and this is what I've been looking for! Great insight and great wisdom! I'm a recent petroleum engineering grad from Penn State, and I wanted to know if you guys could give me some insight on what to expect in the job market. I Minored in Energy Business and Finance and I find myself drawn between being in the business side of oil and gas vs the engineering side! Could you guys give me some advise on how to go forward? I'm not quite the most traditional listener of your podcast, but I've been listening for roughly the past 8-10 months now and have really enjoyed your content. I am a law student that is entering his third, and final, year of law school. I'm wanting to end up working within the energy field, and I have focused my studies accordingly and will be graduating with a specialization in Energy and Sustainable Development. This past summer I interned within the legal department of Cabot Oil and Gas. I'm having trouble finding opportunities to apply for legal jobs though, and would like any advice you guys could give me. Thanks for your time.   Big fan of the podcast. I've only been listening for 1 week but I've already gone through and listened to all First Friday Q&As available on my podcast app. I work in the UK for a bank within their commodities trade support team specialising in physical and financial crude and products. My career goal is working in the U.S./Canada as an oil scheduler/logistician (preference towards ocean and rail). Having spoken with the traders in my company they advised the best way is to try and transfer to a junior front office position and eventually get to a bank-version of a scheduler role. My question is what are some good midstream resources which will help me develop the skills/knowledge for a scheduler/logistician role? Also if you have any advise for moving from a banking support role to Midstream that's be great too. First of all, great work on the podcast, I'm a regular weekly listener who has been working in upstream for the last couple of years. I listened to last week's podcast and felt your response to the Engeineer who felt the industry isn't diverse was not reflective of the reality in the field as many of us see, and there are deeper issues that will keep it that way. I realize that West Texas has a more diverse workforce than most of the rest of the country. I am on my third rig contract in the last few years. On every rig, I have heard constant racist commentary and open racial epithets from nearly a third of the workforce, many directed right at our non-white coworkers. This extends up through company men from majors, and the individuals who have 20+ years of experience and the most authority are more likely than not the worst offenders. I've worked for large and small companies over the last few decades and in my last role managed 8 states for a Fortun...

"In this episode, award winning environmental activist Vera Scroggins joins us from Pennsylvania to share her perspective on fighting fossil fuel development – even though it's sometimes uncomfortable or risky." See the complete shownotes at https://www.ecodefenseradio.org/2016/09/15/vera-scroggins/" Vera has been documenting violations of the fracking industry and leading tours to show first hand the impacts fracking is having in Pennsylvania. As a result, she's become a target of industry intimidation, but she remains strong at heart. In this interview Vera shares her background, and what inspires her to take action despite the challenges she's faced. Links to stuff we talked about: The anti-fracking activist barred from 312.5 sq miles of Pennsylvania #No DAPL Vera Scroggins Youtube Channel Support Standing Rock Bio: Vera Scroggins has documented violations and exposed much of the gas industry malpractice and has been banned from 312.5 square miles of Pennsylvania. This includes the county hospital, local restaurants, supermarkets and drug stores, the animal shelter, the bowling alley, even the lake shore. The ban represents one of the most extreme measures taken by the oil and gas industry against protesters. A Montrose County courthouse granted Cabot Oil and Gas Corporation an injunction barring Scroggins from all property owned or leased by the company. This amounts to two hundred thousand acres of land, and nearly 40% of the county where Scroggins lives. What we talked about : In this interview Vera Scroggins talks about where she grew up, and how she became active in environmental issues. For her, it's just as much about defending the land as it is our rights to free speech and basic health. As mentioned in her biography above, Vera's lost her mobility in public places – she's been banned from nearly 40% of her county. She says this is a corporate takeover – and she's experiencing it first hand. Instead of protecting the people, various parts of the U.S. government are protecting the interests of the gas industry. Vera challenges us to take action, despite the short-term risks. The greater risk is doing nothing, and facing the impacts of the gas industry – climate change, water contamination, Click HERE to See the complete shownotes at Eco-Defense Radio
