How do you feel about collaboration? Working alongside someone in your field of expertise can be challenging. It requires trust, open communication, and a willingness to adapt. For Lara, this battle with perfectionism isn't theoretical. Her story is one of constant evolution, from renting space in wellness clinics to becoming a key part of the Guelph Women's Health Associates, all while grappling with perfectionism and embracing the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Amid the challenges of surgery, motherhood, and career goals, she has managed to carve a path that honors both her professional aspirations and personal well-being.What You'll Learn: Finding Balance: How to identify essential commitments ("glass balls") versus those that can be deprioritized ("plastic balls").Embracing Imperfection: How Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has helped Lara battle perfectionism and foster adaptability.Staying True to You: The importance of maintaining authenticity in a rapidly evolving field, and ensuring that your personal values guide your professional decisions.Seeking Community: Why you should be actively building support networks to improve resilience.Navigating Social Media: How effective marketing is essential for independent practitioners, and why adaptability is key to maintaining a strong online presence.Managing Expectations: How Lara's daughter taught her a powerful lesson about healing and self-compassion. When it comes to adventure sports, one of the best ways to manage risk is to ensure that you are as physically durable as possible. Being physically durable allows you to withstand physical challenges, mistakes and mishaps like falls. In this episode, we are joined by Dr. Leslie Desrosiers. Dr. Leslie is the founder of ACL Strong. ACL Strong is a comprehensive online strength training and exercise program. While the focus of ACL Strong is on preventing knee injuries through targeted exercises and stretching, it encompasses a full body approach.Dr. Leslie shares some of the keys to improving our physical durability from warming up properly to being more efficient with our training. Increasing our physical durability doesn't have to take long. Dr. Leslie tells us how we can work smarter, not harder!Key Takeaways:Diversify Training: This includes neuromuscular training, cardio, stretching and strengthening. Strengthening includes weight training to build your muscle mass. Cross training and using training programs will help to prevent injuries and enhance performance. Time Commitment: It doesn't have to take long if you are efficient. Using the right exercises and stretches and doing things correctly can save you time.Whole Body: Because your entire body works together, you need to work on your whole body to improve durability. Many outdoor activities focus on specific muscle groups, while training programs offer a wider benefit.Insurance Policy: Increasing your durability is like an insurance policy that will reduce your chance of injury and will increase your chances of enjoyment.Avoiding Flare ups: If you feel stiff or things don't feel right, address it early. This can help to reduce the chance of an overuse injury. It is easy to ignore inflammation or discomfort and try to work through it, but this isn't a very good long-term approach.Aging Bodies: The older we get, the more important all of this becomes.Guest Bio:Dr. Leslie Desrosiers, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Orthopedic Specialist, currently residing and operating a private physical therapy practice in San Marcos, CA. As an injury prevention specialist, Dr. Leslie and her team developed ACL Strong, an ACL injury prevention program, helping athletes and active people protect their knees and prevent major ligament injuries so they can excel in sports and add years to their career. She is a mom of two, enjoys an active lifestyle, and loves helping people with her knowledge and expertise.Guest Links:ACL Strong: www.aclstrong.comACL Strong Membership: https://training.aclstrong.com/membership-pricingFollow or SubscribeDon't forget to follow the show!Share & Social Linkshttps://linktr.ee/deliveringadventurehttps://deliveringadventure.com

A couple of months ago I was wandering around a small bookstore here in Vermont, where I ran across a book with the magnetic title, “Abandoned Vermont and New Hampshire,” by one Marie Desrosiers. I picked it up and started reading; the next day, I finished it. The book was so compelling that I found Marie online and sent her a message. A few days later we had a chat about her work, and she agreed to do an interview about the books she writes and the photographs of she makes of abandoned places—a field she calls the study of abandonment. Please enjoy.

Marie-Eve Desrosiers (Univ. of Ottawa) has written a wonderful book. Trajectories of Authoritarianism in Rwanda: Elusive Control Before the Genocide (Cambridge University Press, 20203) challenges scholarly and policy assumptions about the strength and control of authoritarian governments in Rwanda in the decades before the 1994 genocide. Desrosiers employs original archival data and interviews to highlight the complex relations between authorities, opponents, and society. Through careful, detailed analysis, Desrosiers offers a nuanced assessment of the functions and evolution of authoritarianism over time, demonstrating how the governments of Rwanda's first two post-independence Republics (1962- 1990) sought and often struggled to cement their rule. Whilst the deeper, lived realities of authoritarianism are generally neglected by multi-case comparisons at the heart of comparative authoritarian studies, this illuminating survey highlights the essential, yet subtle authoritarian strategies, patterns, and forms of decay that are too often overlooked when addressing authoritarian contexts Learn more about your ad choices. I recorded the first episode of this podcast from the confines of my roommate's closet in our home in Connecticut in September 2020. And now, three and-a-half years later, we've made it to the big stage. From the prestigious Music Hall Lounge in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, it's the first LIVE edition of "The Found Generation" podcast (!!!!!!). And in this very special episode, I'm joined by three very special people from my beloved Seacoast community: Stephanie Paolini is the proud owner of 3 Bridges Yoga in Portsmouth. In our conversation, we dive into her CRAZY backstory, which involves getting robbed at gunpoint, a tough battle with cancer, and much, much more. Despite this madness, she is perhaps the kindest human being on the planet, and Stephanie is someone I have immense respect for. Sam Robbins is often described as an "old soul singer songwriter." A Nashville-based musician whose music evokes the likes of James Taylor, Robbins has gained recognition from extensive touring and from his 2018 appearance on The Voice. In our conversation, we discuss his decision to leave the Seacoast for Nashville, the state of the music industry, and more. He also tries to get me canceled. Jennifer Desrosiers is the CEO/Founder of Altitude Companies, as well as beloved Seacoast staples LANEY & LU, Ginger Fox Baking, and PALETTE. After spending 20 years climbing the ranks of soul-sucking corporate America, Desrosiers left that world behind in 2012 so she could pursue the "integrated lifestyle" she craved for herself. In our conversation, she gives advice to anyone who wants to take the leap, and we also talk about managing ambition, the keys to being a great leader, and what she hopes her legacy will be.
