Send a textIt's kidding season and the barn is in full chaos at every turn. This week on Ringside, we're diving into extended lactations, what they are, why more producers are considering it and whether they truly make sense for a commercial herd. We're joined by Hannah Sessions of Blue Ledge Farm to break down her commercial herd study with Holly Menguc on extended lactations. How did it impact milk production, labor demands and what surprised them most once they committed to it. What makes Holly and Hannah's experience different is that they imported and used European genetics through the Goat Improvement Company to create replacement does with genetics that are used for just that, extended lactations and production. This episode is very interesting and something anyone whether on the commercial side or show/hobby side could consider for the future. A powerful windstorm came down on the lake, the boat was filling up with water, and they were in danger. 24 They went to him and woke him, saying, “Master, master, we're going to die!” He woke up, rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they stopped. Then it was calm. 25 He said to them, “Where is your faith?” They were afraid and amazed and said to one another, “Who, then, is this, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?” A Demon-Possessed Man and a Herd of Pigs 26 They sailed down to the region of the Gerasenes, [1] which is across from Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, a man from the town met him. He was possessed by demons and for a long time had not worn any clothes. He did not live in a house but in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, “What do I have to do with you, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don't torment me!” 29 For Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. In fact, the unclean spirit had seized him many times. He was kept under guard, and although he was bound with chains and shackles, he would break the restraints and was driven by the demon into deserted places. 30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” He said, “Legion,” because many demons had gone into him. 31 They were begging Jesus that he would not order them to go into the abyss. 32 A herd of many pigs was feeding there on the mountain. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission. 33 The demons went out of the man and entered the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned. 34 When those who were feeding the pigs saw what happened, they ran away and reported it in the town and in the countryside. 35 People went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus' feet. He was clothed and in his right mind, and the people were afraid. 36 Those who saw it told them how the demon-possessed man was saved. 37 The whole crowd of people from the surrounding country of the Gerasenes [2] asked Jesus to leave them, because they were gripped with great fear. As Jesus got into the boat and started back, 38 the man from whom the demons had gone out begged to be with him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return to your home and tell how much God has done for you.” Then he went through the whole town proclaiming what Jesus had done for him.
In this podcast, Dale discusses why following the herd destroys investor returns in the stock market and provides insights into why new investors make this mistake. Herd mentality explains why so many people buy late, sell early, and repeat the same mistakes despite endless information online. So, in this episode, we explore herd behaviour, investor psychology, and why education, not trends, is the real edge.
Upfront Investor Podcast: Weekly Australian Stock Market Update | Trading and Investing Education
In this podcast, Dale discusses why following the herd destroys investor returns in the stock market and provides insights into why new investors make this mistake. Ashley Herd, former Head of HR North America at McKinsey, joins this episode to discuss what effective leadership looks like in practice, especially in environments defined by speed, pressure, and increasing expectations around AI. Drawing on her experience training more than 250,000 managers, she introduces a simple but rigorous framework: pause, consider, act. In fast-moving organizations, leaders often default to speed over reflection. Herd argues that the brief pause before responding to a mistake, delivering feedback, or making a decision materially changes outcomes. It allows leaders to ask: What result am I trying to achieve? How would I want to be treated in this situation? What will the ripple effect of this action be? Several practical insights stand out: First, performance feedback remains one of the most persistent leadership failures. The issue is not usually saying the wrong thing, but saying nothing at all. Delayed or avoided feedback creates confusion, resentment, and surprises in annual reviews. Timely, specific recognition is equally important; a simple acknowledgment can shape engagement far beyond the moment. Second, leadership style often oscillates between two extremes. Herd describes "tight jeans" leadership as micromanagement that restricts autonomy, and "oversized sweatpants" leadership as excessive hands-off behavior that leaves teams without direction. The effective middle ground is structured autonomy: clear expectations combined with room to operate. Third, leaders underestimate the degree to which they influence their teams' well-being. Research shows a manager's effect on employee health rivals that of a spouse. Everyday behaviors whether following up, acknowledging effort, or setting realistic expectations, have consequences that extend beyond the workplace. Fourth, organizations face a growing gap between executive narratives about AI and what teams are actually doing. Leaders often declare proficiency while employees experiment quietly, sometimes without clarity on what is expected, allowed, or rewarded. Clear standards around AI usage, what good looks like, what is permitted, and how it will be evaluated, are now a management responsibility, not a technical one. Finally, Herd emphasizes upstream problem solving. Instead of repeatedly "cleaning up" issues after they escalate, leaders should invest in conversations, manager training, and clear norms that prevent recurring failures. This requires time, but it reduces long-term friction. For senior leaders, the message is direct: results and humanity are not opposing goals. Deliberate communication, consistent one-on-ones, and realistic workload expectations are operational disciplines, not soft considerations. For managers at any level, the framework is simple but demanding. Pause before reacting, consider the broader impact, then act with clarity.
Christopher O'Brien returns for part 2 of our conversation on Stalking the Herd. We get into deeper aspects of the Cattle Mutilation phenomenon, and you can follow us down the rabbit hole. From 1992 to 2002 Christopher O'Brien investigated over one thousand paranormal events reported in the San Luis Valley—located in south-central Colorado/north-central New Mexico. Working with law enforcement officials, ex-military, ranchers and an extensive network of skywatchers, he documented what may have been the most intense wave of unexplained activity ever seen in a single region of North America. His ten-year investigation resulted in the three books of his “mysterious valley” trilogy: The Mysterious Valley, Enter the Valley, and Secrets of the Mysterious Valley. His meticulous field investigation of UFO reports, unexplained livestock deaths, Native American legends, cryptozoology, secret military activity and the folklore, found in the world's largest alpine valley, has produced one of the largest databases of unusual occurrences gathered from a single geographic region. He is currently working with a team of specialists installing a high-tech video surveillance and hard-data monitoring system in and around the San Luis Valley. He has also authored Stalking the Tricksters which is published by Adventures Unlimited Press. This controversial book distills his years of field investigation and research into an ingenious unified paranormal theory that is sure to create intense interest and controversy. Hosted on Acast. We're talking about Physical and Mental fitness with Army combat veteran entrepreneur, speaker, and Founder of Soldier Fit, training centers, Danny Farrar. He achieved success as a business owner, MMA fighter and endured events like the Pentagon on 9/11 and combat in Iraq. But we open with one of Farrar's most challenging chapters- his childhood. Like he's done for thousands of fitness clients over the years, Farrar preached lessons he learned from his past, the military and one vivid memory of almost getting choked-out during a mixed martial arts match. However, whether it's a lesson from his life or an observation of society today, Farrar consistently helps people believe they can achieve anything. From fitness to career goals to just wanting to live a better life, Farrar gives the hard truth and often surprising advice. Farrar also shared how the ongoing wave of polarizing news stories; ICE, immigration, social media anger and political unrest, actually reveals a deeper issue within ourselves. And once we conquer it, “anything is possible”. Scott Adams passing is a great loss to those of us who object to herd mentality. Scott was brilliant in his analyzing of cognitive dissonance, irrationality, and mass delusion. He unraveled the complexity of human persuasion better than most, If not all, psychologists. Great management isn't a "soft skill" — it's a measurable performance lever. Ashley Herd, founder and CEO of Manager Method and author of The Manager Method: Practical Strategies to Lead with Purpose and Confidence, joins host Mike Wallberg, CFA, to unpack why communication sits at the heart of effective leadership and how small managerial choices ripple through engagement, retention, and profitability. Drawing on her experience as a lawyer, in-house leader, and advisor who has trained more than 250,000 managers, Herd explains why promoting top performers into management roles so often backfires, how leaders can avoid micromanagement without disappearing, and why her "pause, consider, act" framework helps managers handle everything from delegation to performance conversations. The discussion also explores what investors and analysts can learn about management quality by listening closely to leadership behavior — not just the numbers — and why culture and innovation are inseparable from long-term returns. Listen to the full episode of Enterprising Investor to hear practical insights on building better managers, stronger teams, and more resilient businesses.

In this powerful episode of the Chasing Giants Podcast, Don Higgins and Terry Peer welcome one of the rare guests ever to appear on the show — Jon Weece, founder of Boone Brothers. This episode connects big-picture purpose with practical deer management. Jon shares the God-ordained story behind Boone Brothers — a ministry focused on feeding hunters spiritually while feeding children physically by turning donated venison into shelf-stable, high-protein food for kids in need. This partnership directly solves one of the biggest challenges land managers face: how to responsibly harvest does while honoring the animal and helping others. Don and Terry also break down: - Late-season food plot evaluation - Herd balance and doe harvest strategy - Bedding area myths vs reality - Same-time / same-place deer movement theory - Deer health, pneumonia, EHD, and nutrition - Why simplicity wins in both habitat management and faith - Plus, Jon tells the story of a giant velvet Kentucky buck and how moments like that become worship in the outdoors. This episode is about faith, stewardship, and purpose — not just bigger bucks. Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com A few times I will get an email about all the things I miss in a podcast over a topic or a portion of scripture… Look I only get 7 minutes before you lose your attention… so focus on the seven minutes… and don't get distracted. It's Gods word, focus on that and not on what is not being said…and that's where we are going today! Matthew 14:22 Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. 23 After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. 24 Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. 25 About three o'clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It's a ghost!” 27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don't be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” 28 Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” 29 “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. 31 Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” 32 When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. 33 Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed. PETER DID NOT SAY “LORD LET ME WALK ON WATER” HE SAID COMMAND ME TO WALK ON WATER…. Touch the heavens, speak from the throne of God and make it happen by your words and your words alone. Peter doesn't know much… but at this point he does know one thing: If Jesus commands it- it will happen. If he speaks the word- it will fulfill its purpose. **THIS IS WHY HE NEEDED TO HEAR JESUS SPEAK THE WORD. It is important to note that Matthew also includes several "summary verses" (e.g., Matthew 4:23, 14:14) stating that Jesus healed "many" or "all" who came to Him, implying the actual number of miracles was in the hundreds or thousands. However, the specific, detailed accounts recorded up to Matthew 14:28 are as follows: Cleansing a Leper (Matt. 8:1–4) Jesus commands be healed Healing the Centurion's Servant (Matt. 8:5–13) You don't need to come just say the word Healing Peter's Mother-in-Law (Matt. 8:14–15) Casting out demons with his command Calming the Storm at Sea (Matt. 8:23–27) He commands it to be calm Casting Demons into a Herd of Pigs (The Gadarene Demoniacs) (Matt. 8:28–34) He commands them into the pigs Healing a Paralytic (Matt. 9:1–8 Speaks take up your Matt and walk Healing the Woman with the Issue of Blood (Matt. 9:20–22) Raising Jairus' Daughter from the Dead (Matt. 9:18–26) 10.Healing Two Blind Men (Matt. 9:27–31) 11.Healing a Mute Demoniac (Matt. 9:32–34) 12.Healing the Man with a Withered Hand (Matt. 12:9–14) He tells him to hold out his hand 13.Healing a Blind and Mute Demoniac (Matt. 12:22) 14.Feeding the 5,000 (Matt. 14:13–21) Jesus commands the disciples you feed them. **THIS WAS THE SET UP FOR PETER! He knew that all authority was subject to his voice, his words, his authority. Nature, Supernatural and Physical. 15.Jesus Walking on the Water (Matt. 14:25–27) 16. Peter walking on Water Things we learn: Peter did not jump out of the boat on emotion… any emotion he felt would have been fear, uncertainty in the storm.
