Das Pseudonym "George Stark", des Schriftstellers Thad Beaumont, wird beerdigt... kurz darauf beginnt eine Mordserie...
For the fourth week of our horror film series, we're looking at another collaboration between masters of horror George A. Romero and Stephen King, The Dark Half. This film explores the Jekyll and Hyde story through a seemingly mild-mannered writer and his dark side (Timothy Hutton in a dual role), an unborn twin who takes form to wreak vengeance on those who have tried to silence him. We discuss the excellent screenplay, faithfully adapted by George Romero from Stephen King's novel; Hutton's nuanced portrayal of both Thad and George; Michael Rooker's definitive performance as Sheriff Alan Pangborn; the sparrow swarm special effects; connections to Hitchcock's The Birds; whether Amy Madigan could have single-handedly taken out George Stark; and Stephen King's own alter ego Richard Bachman. Bring your evil twin to our Halloween party and give us a listen!
The final chapter in our trip down 80s memory lane sees us shacking up with Annie Wilkes , scratching our beards at the loony tunes of The Tommyknockers and wanting to hug an author when we meet that not very nice guy George Stark. Matt also gets a deep insight into the traditions and approaches of being a writer thanks to co hosting with the acclaimed horror author Jamie Stewart ! And ratings - the boys get ready to go all I'm A Celebrity and hand out the stars to the 80s cast of novels.

We have declared December George A. Romero Appreciation Month! So, along with our regular lineup of shows, we will be releasing a show, sometimes two, every week dedicated to the memory of this legendary filmmaker. On the seventh and final episode of this Romero month of celebration we take on the split personality, slick Southern killer epic the 1993 THE DARK HALF based on the Stephen King novel. Joining host Cameron Scott for this last tribute is fellow podcaster the incomparable Gary Hill (Cinema Beef, Two Drink Minimum Commentaries, Burning For Springwood and more!) Listen in as we discuss who wins this epic 'battle of wills' between the clumsy Thad Beaumont and high toned George Stark!
This podcast is part of a series highlighting the finalist teams of the 2020 INFORMS Franz Edelman Award competition, to be held on September 29. Joining me for this episode are George Stark, Distinguished Engineer, statistics and quality at IBM, and Dorothea Wiesmann, Program Director and Technical Assistant to the Director of IBM research to discuss IBM’s finalist entry for the 2020 Franz Edelman Award.
George Stark, the director of external affairs at Cabot Oil & Gas, joined the show to discuss how American natural gas is powering communities across the globe even as politicians put up roadblocks to energy security at home. This week on the Video Junkyard Podcast, the guys revisit the 1993 Stephen King/George A. Romero collaboration "The Dark Half" starring Timothy Hutton, Amy Madigan, and Micheal Rooker. Based on the King novel of the same name, Hutton plays Thad Beaumont, a high-brow literary author who has also secretly written a successful series of violent crime and pulp novels under his pen name "George Stark". When Thad decided to "kill off" his alter-ego, "George" has other plans... After 26 years, the The Dark Half stay aloft with other-worldly sparrows... or does this one need to stay buried? Check out the conversation and the verdict on the Video Junkyard Podcast

Episode Notes This week we look deep into Timothy Hutton's blue, blue eyes and ask, what do the sparrows mean, though? The confusion runs deep as we watched the Dark Half and many questions are asked while none are really answered. Who is this doppelgänger – George Stark? Alexis Machine? Actual Twin? Are sparrows on earth as the devil's eyeballs? Is it possible for makeup to get better as it gets worse? When did college classes become a cliché? We also briefly touch on two movies we opted out of and the reasons why – Sleepwalkers and The Lawnmower Man. George Romero and Stephen King team up again for 1993's The Dark Half, in which Timothy Hutton plays Thad Beaumont, a writer who has to kill off his author alter ego, George Stark, once his identity has been found out. But George isn't too happy about it. Superb performances and a super cool concept. Plus it's Stephen King, so you know Julia is happy! Content Warning: Suicide It's all pseudonymous folderol this week on Pod Sematary! Both movies are Stephen King adaptations about writers who are so tormented by their demons that... well, it's Stephen King, ya know? Don't get us wrong -- we love Stephen King, but is he just using us as his therapy at this point? First up is 1993's The Dark Half starring Timothy Hutton and Timothy Hutton. Thad Beaumont buries his alter ego to avoid controversy, but George Stark just doesn't want to stay buried. Ask Mama if she believes it, but it would really make no difference to us either way. Then it's on to 2004's Secret Window starring Johnny Depp and... Timothy Hutton again! Mort Rainey never used a pseudonym himself, but that won't stop John Shooter from taking credit for one of his stories -- and demanding that Mort fix the ending. The ending of this movie, on the other hand, doesn't do much to impress. Chris will argue that the movie is underrated, but by how much? But stick around for some spoiler-talk about Castle Rock's 6th and 7th episodes, "Filter" and "The Queen". "The Queen" may be one of the best episodes of television this year, but why does Kelsey still feel let down? Get more at podsematary.com!
The Sparrows Are Flying Again this week in the Stephen Kingcast! In this week's review, I look at 1989's fictional metatextual story of alter-egos and twins. With The Dark Half, King summons the ghost of Richard Bachman whose alter ego, George Stark, cuts a bloody swath through the Northeast on his way to reclaim his life from author Thad Beaumont. Fans of Needful Things will know that this also marks the first appearance of Castle Rock Sheriff Alan Pangborn. My biggest question is: why don't more people talk about this novel? Find out in this week's episode!
