Mike and T.J. are back on the Mario Minute with Mario Bava’s B-Movie creature feature: Caltiki, the Immortal Monster.
The crew encounter the ancient, slumbering horror that IS "Caltiki, the Immortal Monster", a 1959 Italian film that was (in part) an early effort by horror maestro Mario Bava. We also sample a "unique" cocktail . . .Note - This is the last episode that was recorded before Scott spilled a toxic liquid on the floor of the Deep Dark Lounge, forcing everyone to seek indefinite shelter in separate chambers. As a result, the sound quality is better than what will inevitably follow for the foreseeable future. Cheers?"The Caltiki" cocktail Ingredients: 3/4 ounce peach liqueur 1/2 ounce Irish cream (Preferably chilled) 1/4 ounce blue curacao Splash grenadineDirections: Pour the peach liqueur into a shot glass.Gently pour the Irish cream into the shot glass to create a floating layer on top. If necessary, drizzle the Irish cream over the bottom of a spoon or knife to help control the pour. From several inches above the shot glass, pour in the blue curacao, followed by the grenadine syrup.
Lee and Daniel check out a slightly obscure Italian-USA co-production from 1959; the Riccardo Freda & Mario Bava-directed "Caltiki, The Immortal Monster". Is this post-"The Blob" blob monster film any good? Better than "The Blob"? Or is it just a load of tripe? The special effects, sweaty breasts, and dissolved jerk-off hands are somehow brought up in the conversation. What the hosts have watched lately and a listener comment is also covered. "Caltiki, The Immortal Monster" IMDB 8 out of 10 10 Cats Does Countdown playlist Featured music: "Distruzione" & "Prologo E Titoli" by Roberto Nicolosi.

Last week, the was revealed, and one of the items on the gift guide was the movie Caltiki, The Immortal Monster (dir. Mario Bava, Riccardo Freda). It made the guide because 's Chris McMillan recommended it, so it only seemed fair to have him on the show this week to talk about the movie itself. We also hear a bit about his experience at a recent screening of Suspiria (dir. Dario Argento), and there's a VERY slight tease about something else Chris and Derek have up their sleeve for the podcast. (Very slight. VERY slight.) Also, Derek has an announcement to make about . . . something Strange-ly cool. Also this week, we have the very first episode of The Monster Kid Chronicles by Timothy Price, and we can't wait for you to hear it! Ricardo Freda, one of the earliest directors in Italy to direct a sound horror film, made a film about a giant blob-like creature and we reviewed it. Will and I (Seb) catch up after a long hiatus and talk about Mario Bava (who did the special effects for Caltiki) and Blob films in general.
Filmdaten: Caltiki il mostro immortale (engl.: Caltiki - The Immortal Monster, de.: Caltiki, Rätsel des Grauens), I 1959, Regie Riccardo Freda, Mario Bava.
