The crew watch 1962's "Burn Witch Burn" ( Also known as "Night of the Eagle" ) when Mary is back for a visit to Deep Dark Lounge Midwest. The first attempt at recording was a disaster - cocktails MAY have been responsible. The second recording (after Mary had returned to Deep Dark Lounge East) was MUCH better.Enjoy!

One of our listeners suggested that the crew watch 1958's "The Screaming Skull", and we aim to please. This movie is much maligned - and perhaps rightfully so - but we managed to find a lot to talk about and not all of it was negative. What a curious surprise . . . Also we loved the cheeky warning at the beginning, ""The Screaming Skull is a motion picture that reaches its climax in shocking horror. Its impact is so terrifying it May have an unforeseen effect: it May kill you. Therefore, its producers feel they must assure free burial service to anyone who dies of fright while seeing The Screaming Skull."“Screaming Mai Tai” cocktail2 oz Pineapple Rum 1 oz Blue Curaçao 1/2 oz Lime Juice1/2 oz Cinnamon simple syrupMix in cocktail shaker with icePour over crushed iceGarnish with orange slice in a cup of your choiceEnjoy!Visit our website:http://www.monstermoviehappyhour.com/Chat with us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/monstersndri...Our Bluesky:https://bsky.app/profile/monstersndrinks.bsky.socialOur Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/monstersndrinksOur Twitter:https://twitter.com/monstersndrinksMusic created by Kevin MacLeod. You can hear more of his work at:https://incompetech.com/wordpress/author/kevin/

The crew gasps in horror (and giggles) as Michael Caine's character loses his hand in 1981, "The Hand", from writer/director Oliver Stone. Hello, friends -We are taking a month-long break to wrap up personal and professional business, recharge our batteries and track down murderous beasties in the wilderness. Rest assured, we will be back sometime in June, with all new episodes and cocktails.Cheers!
The crew get a little TOO excited by the excess shown in this 1934, pre-code thriller starring Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, some black cats and a few faintly glimpsed nipples. And don't get Scott started on the skin flaying scene . . . Speaking of Scott, his cocktail was just what the Doctor ordered. The "Poelzig"cocktailIn a highball glass filled with ice, pour, and then gently stir the following ingredients: 2 oz Vodka2 oz Cherry Brandy or Cherry Schnapps 4 oz Cherry Cola2 oz Cranberry Juice1/2 tsp. The crew lose their minds over John Carpenter's 1994, "In the Mouth of Madness", and get all "Lovecrafty" . . . so be prepared for the usual diversions and rabbit holes.Dave's cocktail, like the village of Hobb's End, seems sweet (and somewhat bland) on the surface, but will get you in the end."Hobb's End Punch"2 oz dark rum (Cruzan blackstrap rum)1 oz lemon juice 1 oz pineapple juice1 oz grenadine.5 oz simple syrupSEVERAL dashes of Angostura bitters(Note - if you add orange juice, this becomes "Dave's Rum Punch".)Shake to combine, pour over ice. Whew. The crew watched Ari Aster's "2018 Hereditary" shortly after its release, and were so shaken by it that they vowed never to watch it again. So . . . here they go again! Gluttons for punishment - and devotees of well crafted movies - they girdled their loins, strode forth into the maelstrom and subjected themselves to its unique "charms". All for YOU, dear listener. All for you.Mary's cocktail was needed. The "Scorched Body" cocktail1.5 oz. Laphroaig Scotch – or a similar “peaty” Scotch1.5 oz. Cocchi Americano1.5 oz. Aperol Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass filled with ice. STIR until frigid, and garnish with a Luxardo cherry (floating on the bottom, of course, not unlike a decapitated noggin).
The gang fall under the hallucinogenic influence of 2007's horror film, "Shrooms". Scott teases us with the notion that he considered adding mushrooms to his cocktail recipe - but wisely chose not to.The "Murderous Mushroom" cocktailIngredients:2 oz spiced rum1 oz Maraschino cherry liqueur1 oz apple cider or juice.5 oz honey .5 oz lime juiceLime wheel or wedge (for garnish) Instructions:1. In a cocktail shaker, combine the spiced rum, cherry liqueur, apple cider, honey syrup, and lime juice.2. As the crew prepare to record a slew of new episodes, we offer up this selection of dramatized "adventures" from past seasons. Think of them as a nod to the radio shows of old - without the same talent! We won't be offended if you hit the fast forward button.Cheers!
For Dave's birthday, the crew watch the Spanish-Italian zombie movie from 1974, "The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue". The gang seek shelter in 1932's "The Old Dark House" and have a grand old time with the denizens and travelers found within, though Dave has to call from the future a few times. Scott's hot shot cocktail was a hit. "Fire Bug" cocktail1 oz. Brandy1 oz Pear liqueur 1 Tsp. Golden RumInstructions:Pour brandy and liquor into a shot glass. To kick off the New Year, Scott, Mary and Dave buckle themselves in, drink a glass of Tang and blast into the outer space, where they experience the horrors of 1997's "Event Horizon". Mary gushes over Sam Neill repeatedly, but you knew that was going to happen, didn't you?Actually, no Tang was consumed during this recording, but plenty of Mary's cocktail was.“Gouged Eye” cocktail2 oz White Rum1/2 oz Maraschino Liqueur3/4 oz Lime juice1/2 oz fresh-squeezed Grapefruit juice (Dave and Scott used Pineapple juice)Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.Shake until cold, and strain into a coupe glass.Garnish with a lime wheel with a maraschino cherry placed in the middle, resembling an eye!Visit our website:http://www.monstermoviehappyhour.com/Chat with us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/monstersndri...Our Twitter:https://twitter.com/monstersndrinksMusic created by Kevin MacLeod. You can hear more of his work at:https://incompetech.com/wordpress/author/kevin/
In this Christmas episode the gang is visited by Hammer Studio's 1966, "Rasputin the Mad Monk" and at least ONE of the trio is thoroughly enchanted by Christopher Lee's performance . . . can you guess who?Murderous computer HAL Jr is once again making his presence known. If only it had been "presents", but we don't think HAL Jr celebrates the season. Ah, well. For his holiday cocktail, Dave combines suitable "Russian" ingredients and it ends up tasting like cheap Port wine. Dave LIKES cheap Port wine.Happy New Year!"Rasputin's Blood" cocktail3 parts Madeira Wine (Allegedly loved by Rasputin)2 parts Vodka (Obvious Russian connection, right?)1 part Cherry Syrup (Cherry Varenya, a tea sweetener made by many Russians)Pour over ice in an Old Fashioned glass, stir until cold, express oil from an Orange peel over the drink and add the peel as a garnish.Visit our website:http://www.monstermoviehappyhour.com/Chat with us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/monstersndri...Our Twitter:https://twitter.com/monstersndrinksMusic created by Kevin MacLeod. You can hear more of his work at:https://incompetech.com/wordpress/author/kevin/

Scott can't hide his anger at the filmmaker's confusion and misrepresentation of the noble Pteranodon/ Pterodactyl and goes on a frothing diatribe. The cocktail was inspired by Scott's faulty memory regarding Rodan's breath and his overall anger at the creature's "scientific" classification.“Pteranodon Imposter” cocktail. 1 oz. Our dear friend Alex Taylor, that wacky Englishman living in Texas, joins us for a spirited discussion of Tom Savini's 1990 remake of "Night of the Living Dead", and we talk FOREVER! Seriously!Unlike the last episode, Dave only messes up someone's name ONE time, mistakenly referring to actor Duane Jones (Ben from the original 1968 "Night of the Living Dead") as Duane Johnson. The crew watch 1964's "Kwaidan", a thoroughly striking Japanese ghost anthology movie that is over 3 hours long - and if you guessed that this is a LONG episode, you would be right. Good for you! Dave's strong cocktail may have contributed to some tumbles down a few rabbit holes, but hey, at this point, does it even matter?
