All shock collars set to high voltage as we zip through a maze of bloodthirsty killers, Japanese gameshow cliches, and perhaps way too much linguistic back and forth with Maurice Devereaux' low-budget 2001 slasher, $LA$HER$. We're joined by listener and friend of the show, Jake Rubenstein, to discuss the film's ambitious nature (despite its budgetary constraints), director Maurice Devereaux' short-lived filmography, and much, much more!
Brad and Richard roll up their sleeves to help birth this spooky baby of an episode. Will they ever not NOT talk about candy corn. Tune in and find out!http://doomedmoviethon.comhttp://doomedmoviethon.blogspot.comhttp://legionpodcasts.com

Devin & James are back in the Den, and they're handing out full-sized candy bars to all the trick or treaters! Friend of the show Casey O'Connor returns to help us celebrate Halloween with a discussion of 1980s stand-alone SLASHER MOVIES that never became sequels or franchises (sorry, Freddy, Jason, Michael, and Chucky). We start by getting aboard the TERROR TRAIN, followed by the weird as hell HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME. Next comes the slaughter fest that is PIECES (It's exactly what you think it is!). Then we retreat to the woods with THE BURNING and MADMAN. We discuss the underappreciated debauchery of THE PROWLER, and the surprising longevity of MY BLOODY VALENTINE. Next, we flash some devil horns at TRICK OR TREAT, a heavy metal masterpiece. We end the night with the brutal but unique INTRUDER. In between, we mention several more of our favorite Slashers, as well as some of the one-off hits that came along in the decades after this horror heyday of the 1980s. Please join us for our Slasher Party! We've got all the popcorn and chainsaws you'll need! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

A more wholesome year then most, adjusting to fatherhood/unclehood and the trappings of a toddler's Halloween while also inviting more wild 80s horror comedies into the discourse like Wacko (1982) and Full Moon High (1981). Harry wants to remind everyone to, like him, watch the entire filmography of Jose Ramon Larraz, if you can find it, and Nick wants to talk about the bookends of the screen life genre which also happen to be the bookends of Gen Z representation in media. Pack it up and move over for Gen Alpha! But seriously, let's all have some good Bay Area fun, see you at Ghost Fest, stay off your phone, go carve a pumpkin for God's sakes, lighten up you amateurs, pick a goddamn costume already. Love ya!

Jason from Binge Movies (the B-movie appreciator), Megan from Spoilerpiece Theatre (the beautifully balanced critic), and Paul from The Countdown (the show's own Scrooge) return to close out one of the bloodiest years in horror history — 1981. The Blood Pool for this round includes: The Burning (May 8, 1981) – Campfire tales come to life in this legendary summer-camp massacre featuring early work from Harvey Weinstein's Miramax and makeup FX master Tom Savini. Happy Birthday to Me (May 15, 1981) – A prep-school mystery packed with bizarre deaths, psychological twists, and one unforgettable birthday party. The Prowler (Nov 6, 1981) – A WWII-themed slasher where vengeance and Savini's most brutal gore collide. Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (Nov 20, 1981) – A disturbing mix of domestic madness and queer-coded psychological horror that defies the slasher label entirely. YA horror isn't just training-wheels terror — it's where coming-of-age meets fear, identity, and community. In this episode, Megan and Shirin dig into why teen horror stays perpetually popular: it's plot-forward, nostalgia-charged, and perfectly tuned to the search for self. We trace subgenres (slashers, hauntings, dark academia), talk inclusive casts and queer themes that live on the page without fanfare, and call out the steady stream of adaptations bringing YA scares to screens. In this episode of ClassHorrorCast, I'm joined by the incredibly talented filmmaker Armand Mastroianni — a name that might not always make the headlines, but one that's had a lasting impact on both horror and television for over four decades.Armand's journey began with the cult slasher He Knows You're Alone (1980) — a tense, atmospheric film best remembered for introducing a young Tom Hanks to cinema audiences. From there, he continued to build a fascinating and varied career directing thrillers, supernatural dramas, and emotional character pieces, including The Clairvoyant, Cameron's Closet, and the spiritually charged The Celestine Prophecy. Across our conversation, Armand opens up about his early days in the business, the unpredictable nature of filmmaking, and how he's managed to stay inspired and relevant through so many changes in the industry. He shares incredible behind-the-scenes stories, reflections on the horror genre, and powerful advice for anyone pursuing a creative path — whether you're making movies, podcasts, music, or any form of art. This episode isn't just about films — it's about perseverance, passion, and the creative mindset needed to turn ideas into reality. Armand's wisdom and warmth make this one of the most inspiring and eye-opening conversations I've had so far.If you love horror history, filmmaking insight, or stories from the trenches of Hollywood, you won't want to miss this one. Spooky season is here and Steve and Sean are kicking it off with a loaded Mostly Horror Rewind. The guys start with some fresh horror news including a new cinematic R L Stine project, a revamp of Young Frankenstein, and Michael Shanks' bizarrely titled Hotel Hotel Hotel Hotel. Then it is back to one of their all time favorite conversations with writer, director, and producer Bryan Bertino. Bertino gave us The Monster and The Dark and the Wicked, but he is best known for writing and directing The Strangers, a film that remains foundational for Steve and Sean and still towers over the recent reboot trilogy. With The Strangers Chapter 2 now out in the world, it is the perfect time to revisit why the original is a horror masterpiece. To wrap things up, Steve shares his commitment to watch 31 spooky movies in 31 days this October and runs through some of the titles on his list.If you are ready for horror news, deep dives, and a full on spooky season hang then...COME HANG OUT!!! During our Weapons special edition we discussed a possible sequel. It turns out we were not far off the mark. We are surprisingly uninterested, but we think we may have a good reason. We also talk about an interesting option for those you enjoy doing 31 Days of Halloween. The 1980s were arguably the Golden Era of cheesy B-horror movies. There was so much good stuff to come out of the decade. Many of these straight to video offerings became cult classics and shaped the future horror community. By the time the 1990s rolled around it seemed like there was nothing new to add.Blood Hook from 1986 is a great example. Slashers were still all the rage, and this movie includes many familiar tropes. But its killer is completely unique. The villain is a fisherman. Not a guy wearing a mask and carrying a hook. A straight up fisher with a hook, line, and sinker. And yes, he does reel in his victims. When we talked about the trailer for Night of the Reaper last week we were impressed. We were not quite sure what the movie was about, but it had an aesthetic that appealed to us. It looked like a throwback to 80s slashers, which is exactly how it starts. It is one of the best openings we have seen all year.Unfortunately, everything goes off the rails from there. The story goes in odd directions, working with two different plots. This ends up watering both down and makes for a very tedious watch. It feels like two separate movies were forced together. It all culminates in a twisty ending that is nonsensical and frustrating to watch. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Jason, Megan from Spoilerpiece Theatre (the balanced critic), and Paul from The Countdown (the curmudgeon) reunite to continue their descent into the golden age of slashers. This round, they tackle the first wave of 1981's massive blood-soaked slate. The Blood Pool includes: Home Sweet Home (Jan 1, 1981) – a killer Thanksgiving turkey of a movie to kick off the year. Night School (Jan 7, 1981) – Boston goes giallo with a motorcycle-helmeted killer. My Bloody Valentine (Feb 11, 1981) – Canadian miners dig up one of the genre's defining entries. The Funhouse (Mar 13, 1981) – Tobe Hooper's creepy carnival ride from Universal Studios. This week on Slashers Podcast, the gang dives into Colin Minihan's 2016 indie horror gem It Stains the Sands Red. Ade, Mikey and Lance unpack this desert-set zombie thriller that flips the genre on its head, trading jump scares for a slow-burn character study. The hosts discuss the film's gritty survival premise: a stranded woman, Molly, stalked through the barren Nevada desert by a relentless, lumbering zombie. What starts as a tense cat-and-mouse chase becomes something much deeper, as the film explores grief, addiction, trauma, and unexpected companionship—even with the undead.Along the way, the crew debates how the stripped-down setting, dark humor, and Brittany Allen's powerhouse performance elevate the film beyond typical zombie fare. They also tackle the movie's divisive ending, its unique take on humanizing a monster, and where it sits in the mid-2010s wave of indie horror.Whether you're here for survival horror, character-driven storytelling, or just want to hear the Slashers gang argue about how long they'd last being chased across the desert, this episode delivers laughs, insights, and plenty of gore-soaked fun.

Summer's here—and so are the screams. In this episode, we dive into the best summertime horror movies that bring the heat and the chills. From haunted cabins and beachside slashers to campfire tales that never end well, we're ranking our favorites and breaking down what makes summer the perfect backdrop for horror. Pack your bug spray... and maybe a weapon.
As ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer' slashes its way back into theaters, Andy and Martin sit down to talk all about the era of 90's slashers and their impact, as well as their connection to the legacy sequels of today!
Invasion of the Remake returns to the Calgary Horror Con floor to have some wonderful conversations with some of the spooky guests, vendors, and creator who haunt this years event. Writer Christal Cam takes on the classic monsters with her comic book Cover of Darkness. Gothic lampshades, yes please. You'll take to this creepy decor like a Moth to a Flame. Author Julie Hiner mixes heavy metal with Killers and Demons. Shane Kroetsch gets prophetic with his pandemic horror series of novels and his short story Daniel will get under your skin. Ron Sloan gets unhinged after dying in Friday the 13th Part V: A New beginning. Tiffany Helm is still running from unstoppable slashers and now has to contend with killer cats. And finally Kelli Maroney talks about hanging out in malls and being part of an exclusive club of magicians.
