The Legend of Hell House (1973), Hausu (1977), The Abandoned (2006) In older small towns, there is usually some old house on the outskirts of town, maybe someone lives there, maybe not. But it is one that young kids dare themselves to go up to. And if you do dare to enter this dwelling, you'll find creaking boards, dust covered items from furniture to knick-knacks, and a lot of cobwebs. And any noise, no matter how small it might, gets the mind racing. There is nothing better for the Halloween season than sitting down with a nice Haunted House movie. Which is why we decided to tackle 3 of our favorite scary movies about demented dwellings, as well as ones that we feel that need more attention. Going back to the very beginning of cinema, with Georges Méliès' The House of the Devil (1896), it shows how important this sub-genre is, and why filmmakers continue to go back to it. When done correctly, can be highly effective, and damn scary.  Films mentioned in this episode: The Abandoned (2006), Aftermath (1994), Amityville Horror (1979), The Changeling (1980), The Chooper (1971), Color Out of Space (2019), The Conjuring (2013), Creepshow (1982), Dirty Mary Crazy Larry (1974), Dust Devil (1992), Dracula (1931), Escape to Witch Mountain (1975), The Evil (1978), Fletch (1985), Frankenstein (1931), Genesis (1998), The Ghost of Sierre de Cobre (1964), Hardware (1990), The Haunting (1963), Hausu aka House (1977), The House of Clocks (1989), The House of the Devil (1896), The House on Haunted Hill (1959), The House that Dripped Blood (1971), Ice from the Sun (1999), Infinity Pool (2023), The Innocents (1961), Jaws (1975), The Legend of Hel House (1973), The Old Dark House (1932), Paranormal Activity (2007), Pet Sematary (1989), Poltergeist (1982), Possessor (2020), Salem's Lot (1979), Scrapbook (2000), The Shining (1980), Stir of Echoes (1999), Subconscious Cruelty (2000), Tennessee Gothic (2019), Terrified (2017), Twin of Evil (1972), The Uninvited (1944), The Watcher in the Woods (1980), The Woman in Black (1989)

The podcast enters a stretch of top-notch episodes with William Malone's visually distinct and genuinely creepy installment. Throughout the season, the boys have made plenty of jokes at the expense of directors like William Malone. “Really, he's a master of horror?” Like feardotcom and House on Haunted Hill, The Fair Haired Child proves that William Malone definitely deserves that distinction.  With strange flashbacks and an occult mystery plot, the episode has some of the most arresting images and performances of the whole series. Despite some Nu Metal styling and a sometimes exposition-heavy script, this is one episode that could hopefully encourage viewers to give its director's output a second look. Created by Mick Garris, Masters of Horror was a two-season series on Showtime that challenged genre legends to create an hour-long horror film. Follow along as Bennett and Jim are forced to spend no more than 20 minutes discussing each episode from the first season of the series or face a room full of poisonous gas.

Dan consistently brings charm to his roles, and Jessica's energy was palpable. Their interactions felt genuine, contributing to the movie's overall emotional appeal. Supporting Cast:Catherine Disher's presence was a definite plus. She's the kind of character you'd want on your cruise — exuding wisdom and charm. Moreover, her scenes with Steven Pacey's Reynolds hinted at a compelling subplot that we wish had more screen time. Scenic Locations:The movie's on-location shoots were visually stunning. Budapest's beautiful landmarks and the vibrant European backdrops significantly elevated the movie. Visually, it felt more genuine and less reliant on the cliché Hallmark sets. Animated Intro:The custom animated intro for the movie was a delightful touch. It added a unique flavor and set a charming tone before delving into the story. What We Wished For Plot Predictability:While enjoyable, the movie followed the well-worn Hallmark formula a bit too closely, making it painfully predictable at times. The fake royal trope is getting tiresome, and we long for some fresh storylines in future films. More Cruise Content:For a movie centered around a cruise, there was surprisingly little "boat stuff." We hoped for more scenes showing the cruise experience, which felt sidelined in favor of land-based storytelling. ...

Movie Synopsis: A police S.W.A.T. team investigate a mysterious VHS tape and discover a sinister cult that has pre-recorded material which uncovers a nightmarish conspiracy. __________________________________________________ What an absolute pleasure speaking to Gina (not to get her mixed up with Gina Phillips from Jeepers Creepers)… Although Gina has a brief role in “V/H/S/94”, it's an important role; being a news anchor is not an easy job. Especially when you're covering a story that's invigorating as the “Ratman” in the sewers. What did we talk about? Her role in the movie of course! She spoke of how she started her career as an actress in Toronto and how she heard of the role of “Camille' – to be a part of the V/H/S Franchise is something to be very proud of. Ever since this movie was released, the bar for found footage has been raised and the rest of the movies that come after get better. We also spoke how this movie really grabbed the essence of the 1990s with the costumes and the makeup (and the crazy hair style that Gina has). The 90s was a good era for coming out horror; Disturbing Behavior, Sleepwalkers, Stir of Echoes, House on Haunted Hill, In the Mouth of Madness – the list goes on and on. She also expressed her gratitude for working alongside Pedro Pascal in “The Last of Us” for a short time and she also said that he cool as the public says. How awesome is that? To act in a series with Pedro? Pretty damn amazing in my opinion.

Maybe the production values aren't the best, and maybe the story is grittier than most, but these little gems have provided hours of viewing pleasure to so many. These films also had great leading men in them. Studly, sturdy, reliable actors who might not be GARY COOPER or CARY GRANT or CLARK GABLE, but were handsome and talented and knew how to beat up the bad guys and win over the lovely leading lady. As an homage to the leading men of the B's, this week, we'll take a look at the lives an careers of five of our favorites. Did any of those numerous deleted scenes maybe have more character details by any chance? Why couldn't Jeffrey Combs have played a larger role in this movie? How does Geoffrey Rush look so much like Vincent Price in this and they refused to come out and say it— the guy's named Price to boot, so c'mon! And did anybody else have the Mandela Effect bad memory that Kattan's character got it in the first fifteen minutes? Obviously, many of us film fans see movies in theaters througout the year, whether it be at a national chain or at an independent, arthouse theater - or both. Some of us are even hitting film festivals, special screenings, and for the truly unhinged cinephiles, film marathons. For these kind of events to happen though, there have to be some mad geniuses behind the scenes. Those people are film programmers, and they do so much for our the culture of our fandom; from tracking down film the best quality prints available, to figuring out who owns the rights, to actually making the screenings happen. A lot of times their success comes down to the sheer passion they have for these offbeat, awkward, or just downright strange and fucked up motion pictures that makes them want to pass that along to new viewers. In other words, helping new fans Discover the Horror! One of those mad geniuses is Will Morris, who is one of the programmers for the world-famous Music Box Theatre in Chicago. Well well well, fancy seeing you fellas here. And what a way to return. It's October, and Liam Neeson, Owen Wilson, Catherine Zeta Jones, and Lili Taylor were all king enough to join us on this fine Halloween month-day. In this episode we talk our confusion between "House on Haunted Hill" & "The Haunting of Hill House", the word "wow" and all it entails... and of course, our recent abscense. It's good to be back fellas. https://www.youtube.com/c/HorrorSoup patreon.com/horrorsoup horrorsoup@yahoo.com Instagram @horrorsoup TikTok @ilikethrillers Letterboxd @horrorsoupcaleb & @niteshiftvideo --- Thanks Section: @rossyhorrorshow @themutantmembersonlyclub @vstrxx @morbidpodcast @screampodcast @the_rewatcher
