The weather favored the visitors, with heavy rains bogging down the playing surface and adding extra challenges to the passing attacks. The Trojans and Wildcats were close in the first half, but an amazing defensive play by Jayden Maiava gave USC new life and sparked a 14-point swing. In the second half the Trojan defense took over, allowing only a lone field goal after the break. The crew gives their thoughts on the Trojan offense getting things rolling again, with Jayden Maiava back to his old form, King Miller rushing for over 100-yards in his first Coliseum start and Makai Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane both bringing their 'A' games. The Trojans are coming off a late night win in Lincoln and have a short week to prepare for Northwestern, a program travelling a couple thousand miles to Los Angeles but is also fully rested after a bye week. It was not the cleanest game for Lincoln Riley and the Trojans, but it was an important result that was desperately needed. Now at 6-2 and 4-1 in Big Ten play, No. 20 USC's hopes of reaching the College Football Playoffs are still alive with three home games and one road trip to Eugene left on the schedule. The crew gives their thoughts on some of the key storylines from the game, including an amazing performance by walk-on running back King Miller. Making just his second start, Miller ran for 129 yards and a touchdown on 18 attempts and was the main weapon for the Trojans offense with Jayden Maiava having an off night. The defense stepped up and made plays after Nebraska's opening drive touchdown, forcing a sack/fumble that knocked Dylan Raiola out of the game and coming up big in the second half, only allowing a single field goal to the Huskers. Kicker Ryon Sayeri was also one of the stars of the evening, hitting both of his field goals including one that was just shy of 50 yards. Notre Dame ran for a ridiculous 306 including a record-setting 228 yards by ND tailback Jeremiyah Love, the most by a Fighting Irish player in the history of this series and the most ever by an ND player in Notre Dame Stadium. USC simply couldn't run the ball, gaining just 68 yards on the ground at a 2.3 yards per carry clip, and turned the ball over three times in the second half, dooming any chances of a comeback against the rival Irish. The crew gives their thoughts on some of the key storylines from the game, including the Notre Dame game plan to play a tight, physical contest all over the field and endure any pass interference calls that came along with it. The Trojans also failed to capitalize following any of the huge plays they generated, allowing the Irish to steal the momentum back almost immediately after the impressive opening touchdown drive, the Makai Lemon 42-yard reception and the Ja'Kobi Lane go ahead touchdown and two point conversion. It was an extremely important game for head coach Lincoln Riley, and following that disappointing loss to Illinois he used the bye week to get his Trojans ready for what was going to be a toughest test against Big Ten powerhouse Wolverines. The Men of Troy defensively passed that test with flying colors, holding Michigan to just 109 rushing yards and 316 total yards. The offense was exceptional as well, putting up 489 yards with walk-on tailback King Miller rushing for 158 yards (8.8 per carry) and a touchdown. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio breaking down another disappointing road performance by this USC football team, falling to Illinois 34-32 in Champaign. The offense turned it over twice, the defense couldn't get a stop and untimely penalties, including one that wiped out a 75-yard touchdown, continue to plague the Trojans who fall to 4-1 on the season, 1-1 in the Big Ten, and out of the AP top-25. Despite all of the sloppy play and miscues, USC miraculously took a 32-31 lead with 1:55 left in the game, the first and only lead for the guys in Cardinal and Gold. Then the Fighting Illini did what they had done all game, moved the ball with ease against the Trojan defense, setting up the game winning 41-yard field goal as time expired. Both Ryan and Connor were in Illinois to witness this debacle and give their thoughts on what went wrong, from Kamari Ramsey getting food poisoning, to center Kilian O'Connor going down with an injury, the defense giving up 503 yards and over 12 yards per pass attempt and everything in between. Yogurt Shop Murders: The Lives Destroyed by Police Tunnel Vision The Yogurt Shop Murders in Austin, Texas, haunted the city for more than three decades. But behind the tragic loss of four young girls—Jennifer Harbison, Sarah Harbison, Eliza Thomas, and Amy Ayers—was another layer of damage that only now is coming fully into focus. Police say they've finally solved it. DNA and forensic genealogy have identified the killer as Robert Eugene Brashers, a serial offender who died by suicide in 1999. But Brashers was never on their radar—not in 1991, not in 1999, and not when four young men were arrested, charged, and in two cases, convicted. This segment dives into the lives that were upended by bad police work, narrow thinking, and confessions that never should have been believed. Robert Springsteen and Michael Scott were tried and convicted based on confessions later proven unreliable. Their words were used against each other in violation of their constitutional rights. Years later, DNA ruled them out completely. The charges were dropped. But the damage? Still there. Maurice Pierce and Forrest Welborn were also pulled into the case. Welborn was never indicted. Pierce was released and lived under a cloud of suspicion until his tragic death in 2010 after a confrontation with an Austin police officer. The evidence never matched these men. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio breaking down the Trojans 45-31 victory over Michigan State late Saturday night in the Coliseum. It looked like USC had put the game away but the Spartans, in large part to a series of SC mistakes, clawed their way back in the third quarter cutting the lead to just 7 points. At that point quarterback Jayden Maiava and the rest of the offense took over and created some much needed separation, thwarting any potential MSU miracle comeback. Through four games the offense has been elite with no turnovers for Maiava and only four punts on the season, one of which was garbage time in the final seconds of the Michigan State victory. USC is first in total offense at 584 yards per game, first in points per game at 52.5, 1st in points per play, 1st in yards per play at 9.1, 4th in nation with 7.1 yards per rush and 4th with 11.9 yards per pass attempt. It has been a different story on the defensive side of the ball, with some marked improvements over last season but also some major concerns. The front seven is getting after it, forcing a lot of negative plays and pressure on the opposing quarterbacks. However, the secondary is struggling with multiple busted coverages each game including two that turned into Spartan touchdowns on Saturday. The penalties have also derailed some of the better defensive efforts, including four flags on one MSU drive that turned a punt where USC got the ball back into a Michigan State touchdown. The crew talks about all of that and everything else they saw in the Coliseum and what their initial thoughts are heading into a tough road test against No. 23 Illinois. The Spartans come into the Coliseum boasting a 3-0 record with quarterback Aidan Chiles playing at a high level and more importantly, not turning the ball over. USC is coming off its first real Big Ten road win at Purdue and will try to secure another conference win before the huge road showdown with No. 9 Illinois. The crew talks about the state of this USC football program heading into the game with an offense that has generated more yards per game than any other program, the most sacks in the country and some concerns in a secondary that has struggled at times and is dealing with multiple injuries. Looking at the Spartans, there are certainly some concerns despite the undefeated record. The defense has been leaking, giving up points to FCS Youngstown State last weekend, and there are multiple major injuries that head coach Jonathan Smith is dealing with. Lincoln Riley faced off with Smith back in 2022 when the Trojans survived an upset bid from Oregon State. Eventual Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams struggled until late, finally putting together a touchdown drive to give USC a 17-14 victory in Corvallis. The Trojans didn't win a true conference road game last season and now get that monkey off their back as the Big Ten schedule begins to heat up. It wasn't the cleanest game for Lincoln Riley and company, with 9 penalties for 104 yards, 4 for 13 on 3rd down conversions and giving up double-digit explosive passing plays to Purdue. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Shotgun Spratling, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio to preview the Trojans second game of a season, a matchup with a very familiar face that roamed the Coliseum sidelines for over a decade. The Clay Helton bowl is finally here, with Georgia Southern (0-1) coming to town to take on the Trojans (1-0) as a 28.5-point underdog. Last week USC boat raced an overmatched Missouri State squad, putting up 73 points and winning by 60. Georgia Southern flew all the way to Fresno only to get a second half beatdown by the Bulldogs, giving up 351 rushing yards and losing by 28 points. Even though this is the second-straight week of facing a lower level opponent, the Trojans should be highly motivated to put on a show against Clay Helton's squad. For years USC football fans wanted the administration to move on from Helton, and by the time they made the move and brought in Lincoln Riley the football program was in a bad spot, having gone 4-8 in the final season Helton started as head coach. USC appears to be back on the right track now, but between the fans upset at the Helton years and the staff knowing the huge hole they needed to dig out of, motivation should not be a factor in Saturday's contest in the Coliseum. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio for the very first game recap show of a year, breaking down the absolute beatdown USC put on Missouri State. The Trojans took down the Bears 73-13, scoring at least 70 for the first time since the 2005 opener against Arkansas and putting up the most points since 1930 when USC hung 74 on California. It was a rude awakening for MSU who went on the road for its first game as an FBS program and got dismantled in the Coliseum by a very motivated Trojans squad. Offensively the Trojans were nearly flawless with only three incompletions thrown, 14 different players caught passes, 8 different players scored offensive touchdowns, averaged 10.5 yards per play, a perfect 7 for 7 in the red zone and one lone turnover on sack/fumble by backup quarterback Husan Longstreet. Defensively USC focused on using that bigger, more athletic defensive front to generate pressure and the plan worked, with the Trojans generating 5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss. The defense forced a pair of turnovers including a pick-six, gave up just 224 yards and a paltry 3.9 yards per play and 2.2 yards per rush. The crew talks about this near flawless performance and what it means, if anything, for this football team going forward. They also discuss the differences from last season including that improved defensive front, the impressive running backs room, Jayden Maiava keeping the ball out of harms way, a different vibe during warm-ups and dropping the "Drip Check" individual entrance for a more team-focused approach. In this special edition of Tunnel Vision hosts Ryan Abraham and new intern India Otto are in studio and joined remotely by Trojan fourth year defensive lineman Devan Thompkins who came to USC in the class of 2024 out of Edison High School in Stockton. Thanks to House of Victory, the 6-foot-5, 293 pound defensive tackle from Northern California joins the show to talk about his journey to USC, how he has built up his body over his college career and what has changed working with new strength coach Trumain Carroll, switching from basketball to football, what he learned from playing in all 13 games last season and how he expects to build on that during the 2025 season.
