To honor the legendary Akira Toriyama, we read a story from Dragon Ball Super that Chris says embodies everything great about Dragon Ball! And guess what? It ruled.
Matt and Chris read the first arc of Gail SImone's 2013 run on Red Sonja, and simply couldn't help comparing it to other things, even though it's probably unfair.
We're finally reading Al Ewing and (mostly) Stefano Caselli's Arrako-based X-Men book, and spoiler: It rips.
Before we can read all the raw moments in X-Men Red, we have to catch up with Al Ewing's prelude, his 11-issue S.W.O.R.D. series!
It's a Christmas comic! It's a Keith Giffen comic! It's very wacky! So what did we think of this 1985 one-shot?
This month, we're catching up on the 12 issues of the Mark Waid/Chris Samnee run on Black Widow! And we're particularly invested in the unusual way it was made.
We're finishing out the (first) saga of Jared Stevens: The Man Called Fate on this episode. Can issues 11-22 overcome the problems of the first half of the series, or maybe discover some brand new ones?
For our belated celebration of the birthday of the King of Comics, Jack Kirby, we're reading this 1981 Pacific Comics series of his that we've never read before! So how does it stack up?
Jacob and Caleb give Parker a list of comics that he can read to get caught back up with Star Wars Canon comics! The Cosmic Force Team breaks down the final Vader: Black, White, and Red issue and spends time talking about the San Diego Comic Con cover reveals leading into The High Republic Phase 3!
It's a SUPER-SIZED catch-up as Matt and Chris lengthily discuss and rank Berserk's Black Swordsman arc and the Golden Age arc!(NOTE: The Childish Gambino name story is more of a widely held theory rather than definitive truth. Glover himself says he got his name from an online Wu-Tang Clan name generator.)
After considerable pressure to do so, this month, we're covering the first 11 issues of the 1994 reimagining of Dr. Fate, with Jared Stevens taking on the mantle of the Man Called Fate. It's quite a ride.
This one snuck up on us! So does Al Ewing and Javier Rodriguez's follow-up to their 2021 Defenders series live up to the original?
Two stories we hadn't read from our last Every Story Ever special really caught our attention, so we're reading them both on this month's Catch-Up! One is a recent Boba Fett fan comic, and the other is a Disney Adventures crossover from 1994.
The New 52 version of Secret Six brought Gail Simone back to write, and Catman's still there. But otherwise it's quite different from the previous versions of the title. So how do these 14 issues hold up?
We're kicking off the year by visiting a whole new universe! That's right, our first catch-up of 2023 focuses on the Heroes Reborn event from a couple years back, written by Jason Aaron with a whole bunch of great artists. It...definitely reminded us of some stuff.Go to paperlike.com/ajax and click "Buy Paperlike"!
Reviews: Hell to Pay #1, Justice Society of America #1, The New Golden Age #1, Once Upon A Time at the End of the World, Planet Hulk: Worldbreaker #1, Tiger Division #1, Stargirl series finale The massive Thought Bubble Festival coverage is finally complete! So we decided to do a quick comics catch-up. As usual, Jimmy recruits some of his favorite reviewers. Big thanks to Ricky, Melissa, Ashley and Marta! Always so smart and insightful. Let us know what you thought of these comics. Jimmy also discusses series finale of the CW show STARGIRL. What did you think? Also, get a hold of us! Thanks for listening!
Listen to this episode or get a thick ear! We're covering two Judge Dredd Christmas stories this month, both from 1989!
It's the spookiest month, so we caught up on a spooky comic! We dug into a five-issue miniseries from Vault Comics this time around, and we were very pleasantly surprised.
The long-awaited comics episode is here and we've got a lot to discuss. 4:09 - The Amazing Spider-Man 1:01:26 - Avengers 1:08:54 - Devil's Reign/Daredevil 1:13:30 - X-Men 1:18:15 - Iron Man 1:21:35: Fantastic Four
Our listeners keep telling us to read Chainsaw Man, so we dipped our toe in the water with this short story by creator Tatsuki Fujimoto. Did it make us cry our eyes out or did we laugh it out of the theater?
By your request, we read all 12 issues of the 2015 Black Canary series by Brendan Fletcher, Annie Wu, and an array of other artists. How does this DCYOU offering hold up? Listen and find out!
By your request, we read the first 12 issues of the current Moon Knight series, written by Jed MacKay. Odds are we probably liked it, but can it actually be ranked on the list? Listen to learn what we decide.
We have our comics expert, Miguel, join us once again to tackle comics released these past few weeks. We discuss X-Men: Red #3 and #4, X-Men #12, Knights of X #3, Immortal X-Men #3, New Mutants #26, and Sabretooth #4. There were some great titles in this batch! You can find Miguel on Instagram: @comixguy78
This month, we caught up on a comic we'd already read, but had differing views on whether it would be fun to read again or not. So how did things shake out? Did we get knowledge or insanity? Listen and find out.
Funny story! This was recorded on Monday afternoon, per usual, and then I promptly forgot about actually posting it, and now it's Tuesday...whoops! Anyway-- Starting up with the NEWS 0:07:24, with just a chunk of shorter items, including a few updates and first looks on upcoming projects! Also, I recently watched The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and I genuinely don't think I've laughed that hard in a movie in a long time. 10/10. This past week's comic book PICKS 0:14:36, including highlights of Strange #3, the latest Captain Marvel, Road to Dark Crisis, Marvel's Voices: Identity, and more! This week's comic book PULLS 0:26:05 have a surprising amount from DC Comics, and a ton of #1's and one-shots! I know there's a fair amount I'm picking up on after recording, so be sure to check out all of what your local shop gets in this week! Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 episode 3 0:40:40, talking part III's lies, reveals, revenge, "office competition," and all the best Easter Eggs! I LOVE scary Vader! Young Justice season 4 episode 25 0:53:56, the actual penultimate episode before this Thursday's finale! This one was titled, Over and Out! Strange New Worlds episode 5 0:57:03 titled Spock Amok; a fun episode with great looks at characters and some really fantastic throwbacks, which I, of course, go over plentily. And finally, Ms Marvel Show Prep! Starting at 1:06:11, we're going over the Disney+ "fan guide" information, what to know beforehand, what we already know about the plot details, plus cast and characters, potential villains, and to further excite you about Kamala's premier, some great coverage on what we know of the Captain Marvel sequel--the Marvels! Coming from twitter user @houseofphoton, linked below! The next episode will be 67, coming Monday the 13th of June! We'll be talking the usual comic book picks and pulls along with the news, the new Kenobi and Strange New Worlds episodes, the Young Justice finale, and, of course, the Ms Marvel premier! The boys are taking on the clearly MCU-inspired Al Ewing run on Loki this month. How did it fare in light of some crossover-necessary interruptions?
Matt and Chris read a lovely pair of Dark Horse miniseries for Catch-Up this month, and ended up navigating a legal minefield in the process.
We finally watched The Batman movie and do a non-spoiler (we hope) mini review. And in comics, we play catch-up and discuss X Lives of Wolverine #4 and #5, X Deaths of Wolverine #4, and Sabretooth #2.
We're finishing up the Jed MacKay run on Black Cat on this month's Catch-Up, and upon finishing it, it's three (or maybe four) stories. But we're just going to rank it as one.
WELCOME TO BATMARCH! Bring on the bad guys! In the first installment of our latest month-long series, we're celebrating the premiere of THE BATMAN! Based on many, many listener requests, we're tackling the first 12 issues of the Jed Mackay-written Black Cat series! But is that volume a complete story? We dive in and find out!
Happy Monday friends! This week's big catch-up episode starts with news as usual (0:07:17), but most of this news is rumors and speculation, including talk of the Batgirl movie, the Marvels, Wakanda Forever, and of course, Multiverse of Madness. Covering two week's of comics, some of the stars of my pick list discussion include Harley Quinn #10, Death of Doctor Strange #4, Dark Knights of Steel #3, Dirtbag Rapture #4, and more! The first week of comics is at 0:27:02, the second starts at 0:40:48, and this week's pull list, including so many #1's!, is at 0:51:43. Finally, the main event is my Book of Boba Fett episode 1 and 2 discussions. The first was an amazing start, but I liked the second even more. At the end, I talk a fair amount about the metaphor of the Tusken Raiders and what their handling between Mando and Book of Boba very relevantly displays--all tied up with Morrison's Maori heritage. The next podcast episode will be the Best of Comics 2021 podcast special, coming this week! It's done, it's ready to record, let's see if I get it out on time! sad laugh. But in all seriousness, I'll have another Monday episode up on Monday the 17th, covering more comics, more rumors, and more Book of Boba! This month, we finished out the Al Ewing run on Guardians of the Galaxy and came to our final judgment about what counts as a story to rank! We know it's good. We know that much. But how do we rank it?
By your request, we read the first volume of the Al Ewing-written Guardians of the Galaxy series this month. Those five issues actually contain two stories. But maybe it's all one story? We couldn't decide, so there'll be more to come. Also, just to head this off: Gnawbarque is a beaver. We know.
In this episode, Gull and Rab discuss recent developments in British football comics, with reference to Striker and ROTR, current football season news and DJing.
For the spookiest of months, we caught up on this monstrous event from 1992. How does it hold up when dragged out of the mausoleum? Listen and find out!

This month, we're catching up on the first eight issues of this recent DC Comics Digital First, which brings back the original Batman Adventures creative team!
It took a little longer than planned, but we were finally able to catch up on this controversial Ahoy Comics series by Mark Russell, Richard Pace and Leonard Kirk!
It's Matt's fault that this series ended abruptly at issue 5, and he and Chris talk about what could have been in this promising series, but ended up not happening because of a clearly shortened run.
By your request, we caught up on three holiday comics this month: Two Klaus one-shots and a Hanukkah story from the 2017 DC Holiday Special!
This month we dive into the Marvel revival of Conan with the Jason Aaron/Mahmud Asrar take on the classic Barbarian, spanning a lifetime!
It's Halloween month, and what would be more appropriate for the season than this 1992 four-issue Eclipse Comics series about vampires (and, at least briefly, barbecue) written by Clint McElroy?
We caught up on the 18 issues of the Mark Waid/Chris Samnee Daredevil relaunch this month!
By your request, we read the first four issues of this fun and funny Boom Box series! Is this one volume a story? It's hard to say, but we did our best to rank this charming comic that definitely is paced more like a webcomic than a traditional comic book series.
As of now, 2020 is not the year we got into Dragon Ball.
This month, we decided to catch up on this post-apocalyptic Black Mask series by Vita Ayala and Emily Pearson! It is shockingly relevant!
You demanded it. We re-ranked it. How did Maximum Carnage fare on re-evaluation? Did it rule, or was it eviscerated?
We wrap up our look at this 24-issue Warren Ellis/Jon Davis-Hunt series! We probably, honestly, just could have ranked it last time.
Based on your votes, we read the first half of Warren Ellis and Jon Davis-Hunt's The Wild Storm! What did we think? And will we read the second half next month? Listen and find out!
A whole bevy of things happened this week, and we’re going to find the silver lining in as many as we can! How is The Batman’s production much like its Comic counterpart? Which Marvel/Disney + shows shut down this week? Which studio is releasing their theatrical offerings early into streaming? Which NYC event was postponed for the first time since 1762? What was Joker’s Domestic Haul at the end of its run? What is Ryan Reynolds doing with his Cell phone company to help out the people? How Great is that Soul trailer? We had both already read some of it, but this month, we caught up on all five issues of the Kieron Gillen/Caspar Wijngaard Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt series! It's about formalism, and is really comics scholarship in the form of a comics story. So we talk about that!
We read two Christmas stories featuring two of our favorite characters for Catch-Up this month. Did we feel the spirit of the holiday in these stories? Listen and find out!
We read the full eight issues of the 2014 Thor series, and our feelings about it might surprise you!
Because of passionate fan demand, we checked out this six-issue horror miniseries by Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham! It's well-made to be sure, but is it the Morrison we really like?
At your request, we read the first volume of My Hero Academia, and liked it! But it also made us feel very old.
We caught up on the first volume of Black Hammer for this month's show...and maybe a little more? That's right! This month's episode is unprecedented!
The winner of this month's Comics Catch-Up poll was the purported last-ever Mike Mignola Hellboy story, and despite some of the details not being entirely clear to one host, who might be a dumb guy, we loved it!
We finished out the Al Ewing run on Ultimates for Comics Catch-Up this month! What should we read next?
In a nail-biter vote, The Omega Men edged out the competition to be the next comic we caught up on. We found it pretty relevant to talk about three-and-a-half years later!
We pivoted! Based on a Twitter poll, we moved on to the Al Ewing-written 2015 Ultimates series for this month's episode, and folks: It's good.

After last week's look at Sophie Goldstein's "The Oven", the lads shift focus to the ever-growing stacks of comics coming into the recording studio at the center of the Earth. What titles moved from the "gotta read" pile to the "have read" one? With a list like "Dark Corridor", "Rai", and "The Envelope Manufacturer", you don't have to be a longtime listener (or even short-time one) to know this discussion is going to go in a couple of different and interesting directions. Plenty of talk about comics and what it's like to try and keep up with them week after week is just a click of the mouse, swipe of the finger, or push of a button away! Robots From Tomorrow is a weekly comics podcast recorded deep beneath the Earth's surface. You can subscribe to it via iTunes or through the RSS feed at RobotsFromTomorrow.com. You can also follow Mike and Greg on Twitter. This episode is brought to you by Third Eye Comics. Enjoy your funny books.
