This made Audrey feel uncomfortable.Audrey also talked about a time when Lori called her naive before threatening to cut her up and bury her.Looked into Alex's firearm, he had a 6.5mm Grendel with a vortex scope, which could've been misconstrued as a paintball hopper (the container that holds the paintballs).Ian Pawlowski said after a few days of listening to Lori's religious beliefs, he was not open to hearing any more of this. This filmmaker was in the belly of the beast as they say. His documentary Wrath of Gods documents one of the most dangerous and difficult films shoots in modern film history.When Canadian director Sturla Gunnarsson and his cast and crew, including Gerard Butler and Stellan Skarsgård, set upon Iceland to film Beowulf & Grendel in 2004, they expected the usual complications involved in making a major motion picture. What they encountered was a ruthless Icelandic winter on a foreboding landscape, financing complications, and a bizarre run of bad luck that led some of them to believe they were in an epic battle with the Norse gods themselves.Filmmaker Jon Gustafsson was along for the ride. Jared, Oriana and Ned talk about Oriana's choice of topic: Gollum. For all the high adventure, heroics great and small and world-shattering consequences and much more that exists in Tolkien's legendarium, arguably the most fascinating character he created in the end is his most racked, ruined and miserable, first encountered as a mysterious slimy creature living and lurking in a subterranean lake with only one thing of particular value to his name. Tolkien's introduction of both Gollum and a magic ring into this world was, to borrow a phrase from the narrator of The Hobbit, a turning point in his career, the more when as he embarked on the writing that would result in The Lord of the Rings he realized he needed to rethink and redo the original, much more comically grotesque version of Gollum into a being living out any number of emotional and physical extremities at once. Arguably both this transformation and then the incorporation of this version of Gollum into his grand story became something he never quite got over, based on his various reactions over time as seen most clearly in his published letters on the subject. Why might the strongest scene for the entire Lord of the Rings be the simple gesture of Gollum tentatively reaching out to touch a sleeping Frodo on the way to Cirith Ungol? What is it about Tolkien's self retcon of what Gollum is at heart that is fascinating still? Does the unspoken backstory of Sméagol and Déagol's relationship suggest deep waters indeed, and how did Tolkien regard them both? Ymir by Rich Larson, was one of our favorite science fiction books we read in the summer of 2022. Locus Magazine wrote glowingly of Rich: "If one tried to engineer a young writer who would embody all the core values, tactics, and ambiance of Classic SF while still conveying ultra-contemporary attitudes, ambiance, and affect, one could hardly produce a better candidate than Rich Larson"Rich was born in Niger and has lived in Grand Prairie, Alberta in Canada, Spain and the Czech Republic. Rich considers himself to be a speculative fiction author. He has written over 200 short stories and 2 novels Ymir and Annex, as well as the collection Tomorrow Factory.  His short story “Ice” was adapted into an Emmy-winning episode of LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS (available on Netflix).Ymir (published by Orbit Books) is imaginative and compelling. It's a far future story of a despised prodigal returning to his icy home world of Ymir to track down a sapient war machine, break a mining strike and to confront the last person he ever wanted to see again—the brother who sent him off in pieces twenty years ago. By the way, when you check out the marketing it calls the novel a "retelling of Beowulf".  Rich told us prior to recording that his publisher asked him what his next novel will be and he quickly replied "Beowulf in space" and it stuck with them. There is absolutely no need to read or refresh yourself on Beowulf. Well, just remember that Grendel is a monster  (Also a terrific novel by John Gardner and an excellent restaurant and bar in Cambridge, MA!)And for those who don't want to jump into a new series, Ymir is a stand-alone novel. We think it will make a breathtaking film one day. Návrh SaS o inštitúte partnerského spolužitia, ktorý pripravovala aj s kolegami v koalícii, podporilo 50 poslancov, čo znamenalo stopku. Chce to vládny návrh, hovorí minister práce Milan Krajniak zo Sme rodina, ktorý bude v súlade s programovým vyhlásením vlády, čo návrh SaS vraj nebol. Poslanec Gábor Grendel z OľaNO naopak tvrdí, že sa zákon liberálov k zámeru programového vyhlásenia približoval a mala sa mu dať šanca. Nezaradená poslankyňa Katarína Hatráková, ktorú klub OľaNO vylúčil za hlasovanie o Ficovi sa tohto hlasovania nezúčastnila. Hovorí, že Inštitút partnerského spolužitia by nepodporila, aby to nemohlo viesť k zrovnoprávneniu výchovy detí LGBTI+ pármi. Roaming across the literary and social landscape, visiting with Beowulf's Grendel and the jazz musician Alice Coltrane, reckoning with immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border and thinking through the fraught beauty of the moon on a summer night after the police have killed a Black man, Reeves's formally elegant and daring poems ask urgently “Who has not been an entryway shuddering in the wind / Of another's want, a rose nailed to some dark longing and bled?” Reeves joined us virtually in conversation with fellow poet and old friend A.
