The film follows the adventures of the nomad barbarian Sonja, who unites a group of unlikely warriors to face off against Dragan and his deadly consort AnnisiaHosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.
Red Sonja is based on Red Sonja, which is, in turn, partially based on Red Sonya. The Red Sonya interpretation is credited as such for this movie, however it's actually based on Red Sonja, not Red Sonya. And during production, it was briefly called Red Sonia.Confused? I'm not surprised. So many Sonjas/Sonyas/Sonias. And what about Conan, I mean, Kalidor?Sonja/Sonya's evolution from Robert E. Howard's historical 16th-century warrior to Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith's iconic Marvel Comics fantasy heroine, each brought something unique to the Red Sonja legacy.Kalidor (definitely not Conan!) is in an interesting case study of Hollywood rights navigation, where creative solutions led to a character that channels the spirit of Conan while remaining legally distinct. Red Sonja's innovative approach to special effects, and the decision to shoot everything in-camera created a distinctive visual style that prioritized practical filmmaking techniques over post-production polish. While it has its flaws, Red Sonja represents an ambitious chapter in fantasy filmmaking that pushed boundaries and took creative risks, offering valuable insights into the evolution of the sword-and-sorcery genre and Hollywood's ongoing relationship with strong female protagonists.I would love to hear your thoughts on Red Sonja (1985) !Verbal Diorama is now an award-winning podcast! Frank and Squeaks cover Paramount's massive week of moves after the Skydance merger, including a new UFC deal, a bigger theatrical slate, a push for family adventure movies, and fresh Star Trek film plans. They react to Greta Gerwig's Narnia set photos, talk through the young Rambo prequel casting, and share practical steps for Roblox safety that parents can use right now. Reviews land for Alien Earth and King of the Hill. Plus, Frank chats with Alex Austin about building a social platform out of a podcast app and what moderation and growth look like in 2025. Convention plans and network updates round it out. Family adventure is a priority which fills a gap left by pure superhero focus and could broaden audience reach. Two Star Trek films are on deck, one tied to the Kelvin crew and one new project from Toby Haynes. Narnia starts with The Magician's Nephew, which makes the world feel fresh while connecting to classic imagery. The Rambo prequel raises a bigger question about when to create new action icons instead of reviving old ones. Roblox needs stronger safety guardrails, while parents can act now with private servers, whitelists, spending locks, and no random chats. Alien Earth blends practical effects with slow-burning world-building and earns a nine out of ten from both hosts. King of the Hill nails a modern continuation that honors the original and lands a perfect ten out of ten from Frank. Memorable quotes Squeaks on Paramount. Right now, they are not messing around Frank Family adventure feels like the missing lane, and it is a smart way to reach everyone Frank Alien Earth plays like Fargo in space, and I mean that as a compliment Frank, this new King of the Hill does not feel like a reboot, it feels like the next season Squeaks if you are not doing enough to protect kids other people will try, and that should be a wake-up call Call to action If you enjoy the show tap Follow or Subscribe in your podcast app. Leave a quick rating and review to help more geeks find us. Red Sonja, the classic fiery red-haired warrior, is having quite a moment in 2025. With a feature film set to release on August 15th and a new comic book series, Sonja Reborn, launching on August 6th, it's time for a whole new generation to discover this fierce character. Jace is joined by Luke Lieberman to talk a bit about the film, its cast, and the plans for Red Sonja at SDCC 2025. Luke has long been involved with the character, having served as her steward for many years. This entails shepherding her through various projects, such as the upcoming film, but also in comics. On that front, just before the film is released, Dynamite is launching a new series written by legendary comics writer Christopher Priest. It will be a great jumping-on point for fans who may have never read about Sonja's adventures in comic form before. There's plenty in the series for longtime Red Sonja fans as well — not the least of which is artist Alessandro Miracolo's gorgeous linework. Check out the episode for more details, including SDCC plans!
With the Red Sonja reboot on the horizon, ScreenTime's Cas Harlow chats with director MJ Bassett about bringing the iconic Robert E. Howard character back to the screen in just three months. They discuss her roots in filmmaking, shifting from horror to TV action, filming in Africa, and the future of AI in cinema - plus a surprising flaw in modern CGI most fans don't notice.

The movie that is, starring Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams. Gleeson's character discovers that he can travel through time in his own life and change things. But it may backfire if he's not careful. Read his article on RetroZap.com. And make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU. Enjoy Spies! 40 years ago, Roger Moore wrapped up his James Bond career with the 14th movie in the franchise, A View to a Kill. He was up against Christopher Walken's psychotic billionaire Max Zorin who was going to “Lex Luthor” Silicon Valley so he could be more of a billionaire. 30 years ago Pierce Brosnan debuted his Bond in Goldeneye as he went up against a rogue agent played by Sean Bean. Both films have their strengths, and of course a few parts that are full of more hot air than Max Zorin's blimp. But we love to watch them anyway. Then we assess the non-Bond secret agents in a tournament to crown the Spycraft General! Maxwell Smart to Ethan Hunt. Jason Bourne to Austin Powers. Who will diffuse the bomb at the last second and take home the microchip? Who is your favorite spy? Which Bond is your go-to secret agent? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Shaken and definitely stirred” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Welcome back to Not A Bomb! This is the podcast where we explore some of cinema's biggest box office failures and decide whether they deserve a second chance. We are celebrating five years of discussing cinematic flops! Behold! In the age of steel and shadow, the warriors of Not a Bomb gather 'round the blazing fire to speak of a long-forgotten legend—Red Sonja, the first of Marvel's sagas to stride onto the silver screen. With flame-haired fury, she is portrayed by the statuesque shield-maiden Brigitte Nielsen. Beside her, the mighty Arnold of the House Schwarzenegger appears—not as Conan the Cimmerian, but as some other sword-swinging warlord, lost to the winds of poor writing.Lo! The tale sought to ride the wave of the Hyborian Age, yet it faltered like a drunk on a dragon's back. Scorned by the masses and mocked by the scribes, Red Sonja was cast into the abyss of forgotten films. But fear not, wanderers of cult cinema! For this day, a champion rises! Kevin, blood-brother to the podcast, joins the fray—his insight as sharp as Valeria's blade—as the trio cleaves through the chaos of camp and carnage. Is Red Sonja worthy of your precious hours? Or should it be banished to the lands of bad movie exile? Only one way to know—summon the episode and listen, if ye dare! Not A Bomb has plenty of news designs in our Merch store! Head over to the Not A Bomb Tee Public store and check them out. Special thanks to Ted Blair for the amazing designs! We're committed to hearing your feedback and suggestions. If there's a cinematic flop you'd like us to delve into, please reach out to us at NotABombPod@gmail.com or through our contact page. Your reviews and feedback are what drive us. If you enjoy our content, consider leaving a review on Apple Podcast or Spotify.Cast: Brad, Troy, Kevin

Show Notes Red Sonja Consumed by Gail Simone (Ken) - I got this as a Christmas present, and I'm looking forward to Gail's take on Red Sonja in novel form (I already read the comic book series she wrote; it was great). From the book blurb: The gutsy, wild, tortured free spirit, forged in pain yet unafraid of life or death, Red Sonja, the famous, fiery She-Devil and barbarian of Hyrkania has never concerned herself with the consequences of her actions. She's taken what she wanted, from treasure to drink to the companionship of bedfellows. She's fought who deserved it (and sometimes those who didn't). And she's never looked back. But when rumors start bubbling up from her homeland—rumors of unknown horrors emerging from the ground and pulling their unsuspecting victims to their deaths—and a strange voice begins whispering to her in her sleep, she realizes she may have to return to the country that abandoned her. And finally do the only thing that has ever scared her: confront her past. When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi (David) - I've been a fan of most of Scalzi's books. This is one of his more humorous books like Starter Villain and Kaiju Preservation Society. I'm looking forward to it. It's also going to hold me over until the next Old Man's War book comes out. The moon has turned into cheese. Now humanity has to deal with it. For some it's an opportunity. For others it's a moment to question their faith: In God, in science, in everything. Still others try to keep the world running in the face of absurdity and uncertainty. And then there are the billions looking to the sky and wondering how a thing that was always just there is now... something absolutely impossible. Astronauts and billionaires, comedians and bank executives, professors and presidents, teenagers and terminal patients at the end of their lives -- over the length of an entire lunar cycle, each get their moment in the moonlight. To panic, to plan, to wonder and to pray, to laugh and to grieve. All in a kaleidoscopic novel that goes all the places you'd expect, and then to so many places you wouldn't. It's a wild moonage daydream. Ride this rocket. Cold Eternity by S.A. Barnes (Ken) – Barnes' third sci-fi/horror/ghost story novel is out. I loved the creepy atmosphere of the first two, which makes this one an easy pick. Halley is on the run from an interplanetary political scandal that has put a huge target on her back. She heads for what seems like the perfect place to lay low: a gigantic space barge storing the cryogenically frozen bodies of Earth's most fortunate citizens from more than a century ago… The cryo program,

You stepped in for Tom Taylor on this annual—can you walk us through how that came about? Was this a story you had to write quickly, or did you have some room to breathe and make it your own? 2. The story kicks off with a classic locked-room mystery—an impossible murder in a high-tech safe room. What drew you to that kind of puzzle, and how did you approach building a detective narrative worthy of Batman?3. There's a moment where Batman's costume subtly shifts from black to blue once he's in London. Is that just a visual cue, or is there something more symbolic going on there?4. What's your take on the annual format? Do you see it as a chance to tell something self-contained and weird, or a pressure cooker to do a lot in a single oversized issue?5. You're working with a trio of incredible artists—Stefano Raffaele, John McCrea, and Fico Ossio. How did you decide who handled which parts of the story, and what did each artist bring to the table stylistically?6. This annual flirts with the idea of Batman not just solving crimes but confronting the nature of reality. How far is too far for Batman, in your mind, when it comes to stories that push past the physical world?7. UK mythology and angels? John Dee's magic - Elizabethan 8. Maybe the most important question of them all, what is Batman's favorite tea and how does he take it?
