A public service announcement from your friends at Cinebuds: “Animated movies” and “Anime” are NOT the same thing. It's a good time to point this out because throughout this month, Milwaukee Film will turn its lens on the magic of both categories as part of its “Ani-May” movie series.Yes, the more general moviegoing public will notice familiar titles like The Iron Giant, Ferngully and Smashmouth-adjacent delight-turned-sequel-factory Shrek (and Shrek 2). That does NOT mean families with young children should descend on the Oriental Theatre willy-nilly for any selection in the series.A prime case in point is the film that earns our focus in this episode, the punctuation-laden Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc. Leave the kiddies at home for this high-octane, high-violence tale that might just lure you in via a slow-burn 40 minutes that seem to be more about teenage dating than the title would suggest. Then … it earns that title. But while Dori and Kpolly spend time exploring the mythology of devils and hunters, compare Chainsaw Man to Blade and wonder whether they're getting too old for this s***, there's more than chainsaws in this episode! Our duo also touch on the full lineup for “Ani-May” — from Shrek's swampy nostalgia to the Fantasia-indebted Allegro Non Troppo.#####Cinebuds is sponsored by Joe Wilde Garage Doors.

Meelz, LJ, and AD lock in for Episode 232 of The Lookout Podcast, continuing their journey through One Piece's Punk Hazard Arc. Before they head over, they discuss My Hero Academia's upcoming new episode 'More' and Chainsaw Man's movie coming to Crunchyroll. The Punk Hazard recap dives through the extra fun filler episode with Goku, Luffy, and Toriko, wonder if this is the series' most inhumane arc yet, where we stand with Law, talking Haki, Luffy vs. Caesar Clown and the trend of Luffy losing then winning, and the introduction of Vergo and Donquixote Doflamingo.
395 Clayface Horror Movie Maul Shadow Lord AniMay Free Comic Book DayDoom Scrolling IntroSteph opens with a wild work moment: getting called a “fat bitch” by a frustrated patient during physical therapy — and somehow holding it together professionally while dying laughing internally. The Foos ease into the weekend recap with drinks (Steph's whiskey-limoncello highball, Joe's Michelob Ultra “carb watch” era), a Shoelace Express show at Pro5 in Upland, and Joe accidentally driving to the wrong Eureka because he didn't realize there's more than one. Then the Florida chaos arrives: a woman allegedly trashes a Subway over peppers on her mobile order — knocking equipment around, throwing trays, and earning herself an arrest for criminal mischief. Florida, never change.Geeking Out starts with DC going full horror: Clayface is getting a biological horror-thriller treatment, leaning hard into the actor-turned-monster origin and the “this is not a superhero movie” vibe. They talk why Batman villains can be more interesting when Batman isn't even in the story, and take a quick shot at Sony's villain-movie track record (with Venom being the best of the bunch).Star Wars Maul Shadow Lord continues heating up, with episodes dropping in pairs and the finale landing on May 4 for Star Wars Day. The Foos debate Maul vs Vader, who's scarier vs who's more interesting to watch, and even who has the better skincare routine (spoiler: Vader's face is not winning any awards). Then anime gets its own month: Crunchyroll turns May into AniMay with watch parties, award tie-ins, theater events, and big headliners like Chainsaw Man the Movie and Re:Zero content — followed by the eternal question: who has a Crunchyroll login they can borrow? They also dig into a Magic: The Gathering resurgence (Vegas buy/sell events, collabs like Spider-Man and Avengers, and whether they should start playing again), plus hype for the new Mortal Kombat movie and favorite characters. Before signing off, Steph drops a genuinely useful heads-up: Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, May 2 — 24 free titles across publishers, perfect for newcomers to sample different vibes. She highlights a few standouts and brings up AWA's Telepaths — which is getting an Apple adaptation called Liminal starring Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.Sports makes a brief, chaotic comeback too: MLB glove break-in methods, including steaming… and one player straight-up microwaving his glove for two minutes.ChaptersDoom Scrolling IntroIntroSteph gets called a fat bitch at work and survives professionallyDrinks highball limoncello + Michelob Ultra carb watchShoelace Express show at Pro5 Upland + Eureka wrong locationFlorida woman trashes Subway over sandwich peppersGeeking Out Clayface turns Batman villain into horror thrillerBatman villains more interesting without BatmanMaul Shadow Lord schedule finale on May 4Vader vs Maul villain debate + skincare routine jokeAniMay Crunchyroll anime month watch parties Chainsaw Man ReZeroMagic the Gathering comeback Vegas event collabs Spider Man AvengersMortal Kombat hype favorite charactersFree Comic Book Day May 2 titles to grabAWA Telepaths Apple adaptation Liminal Vanessa Kirby Yahya Abdul Mateen IISports MLB glove break in steaming and microwavingOutro + Doom Scrolling OutroClayface, DC horror movie, Maul Shadow Lord, Darth Maul, Darth Vader, AniMay, Crunchyroll, Chainsaw Man movie, ReZero, Magic the Gathering, Mortal Kombat movie, Free Comic Book Day, AWA Telepaths, Liminal, Vanessa Kirby, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Ontario, Upland, Shoelace Express

!!!SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE CHAINSAW MAN MANGA!!!The sun has finally set on one of the most chaotically beautiful manga series of all time. Tatsuki Fujimoto's Chainsaw Man has finally concluded after more than seven series of serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump. And while anime-only fans are still reeling over what happened in the Reze movie, the rest of us manga readers are having to grapple with our emotions as Denji enters his new era in Chapter 232 of the series. With much to unpack and plenty to rant about, Frankfurtter and MagicallyAverage spend this episode diving deep, deep, DEEP into the finale of the Chainsaw Man manga and dissecting the series as a whole, theorizing what, if anything, might be in store next for our cast of misfit devil-hunting characters. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Twitch: BakacopodcastTikTok: @bakacopodcastInstagram: @bakacopodcastBlueSky: @bakaco.bsky.socialYouTube: @bakacopodcast---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------#anime #animepodcast #podcast #manga #animenews #animereviews #animepreviews #animerecommendations #mangacollectionSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/bakacompany-podcast. Most people who end up in VFX spent years obsessing over frames and film. Ryan Kelsey spent 13 years in telecom in Cincinnati, selling fiber and managed IT services, before stumbling into an industry where studios win Oscars and go bankrupt in the same month. That collision of worlds turns out to be exactly the perspective the business needs right now. Ryan is VP of Sales at Center Grid Virtual Studio, and his outsider's eye cuts through a lot of the noise around cloud infrastructure for creative studios. Why are small VFX shops still running overheating GPU racks in their back offices? Why does a freelancer getting a big render job have nowhere obvious to turn? Why does everyone talk about AI compute without knowing what they're actually doing with it? This conversation, recorded live at the HPA (Hollywood Professional Association) Tech Retreat, ranges from the broken economics of fixed-bid VFX work to what a genuinely boutique cloud partner looks like compared to the AWS-sized behemoths, to Chris's teenage son dragging his friends to see Chainsaw Man while the industry insists nobody goes to the movies anymore.
