Christian Polanco and Alexis Guerreros cap off their 11-city Breakaway Tour with an electric live reaction show immediately following Spain's 1-0 World Cup Final victory over Argentina. The hosts dissect a defensive masterclass from La Roja, who neutralized Lionel Messi and held Argentina to zero shots on target across 120 minutes of play. The guys break down the game's turning point—Enzo Fernández's second yellow card for dissent—and Ferran Torres' dramatic extra-time winner just 30 seconds into the second half of extra time. They also marvel at Spain's historic achievement of conceding just one single goal across eight World Cup matches. The conversation turns to post-match awards as the hosts analyze Rodri earning the Golden Ball, comparing his quiet, game-controlling influence to sports legends like Shane Battier and Sergio Busquets. They touch on Unai Simon taking home the Golden Glove after only needing to make 10 saves all tournament, as well as the debate over Kylian Mbappé's Golden Boot title following a wild 10-goal third-place exhibition match. From Shakira's halftime performance to Kermit the Frog's surprising appearance, the guys review all the viral moments from the historic final. Finally, Christian and Alexis hand out their official 2026 World Cup grades, debating the merits of the expanded 48-team format and reflecting on how the tournament brought fans together across host cities. The hosts close out the show with heartfelt gratitude for their crew, wives, and community as The Cooligans celebrate nearly 11 years on the air.   Timestamps: (00:00) — Live from Webster Hall: Spain Wins the World Cup 1-0 Over Argentina (02:44) — Defensive Mastery: How Spain Shut Down Messi (12:30) — The Red Card Breakdown: Enzo Fernández's Ejection & Ferran Torres' Winner (21:10) — Stock Up & Stock Down: Scaloni's Struggles vs. Rodri & Ruiz Midfield Control (35:09) — World Cup Awards Debate: Mbappé's Golden Boot & Rodri's Golden Ball (46:16) — Final Tournament Grades: Evaluating the 48-Team Format & Fan Culture Across America (55:20) — Wrapping Up the 11-City Breakaway Tour & Celebrating 11 Years of The Cooligans Subscribe to The Cooligans on your favorite podcast app:

Trump just reinstated the naval blockade on Iran and declared the United States the guardian of the Strait of Hormuz — with a 20% charge on cargo for the protection service. You need to see what this changes before it starts showing up at the pump. The Strait of Hormuz carries one-fifth of the world's seaborne oil every day. Iranian threats and attacks on ships are driving up energy prices and hitting working families. After the June deal collapsed and Iran resumed harassing commercial traffic, Trump ordered strikes and brought back the blockade with this 20% cargo reimbursement policy. It's America saying we're done footing the bill alone while allies with navies do little — the ships using the strait should help cover the security costs. Pat also covered: Bronko Nagurski — the toughest football player of all time. Lindsey Graham's sister appointed to take his Senate seat. 78% of Americans know the first president … the other 22% will surprise you. Zohran Mamdani's surprising answer on why rape is increasing in NYC. Could Ron DeSantis end up on the Supreme Court? Do you think this 20% cargo fee is a fair way to share the burden of protecting the Strait of Hormuz? What's your honest take on whether bringing the blockade back makes America safer or just pulls us deeper into conflict with Iran? They're waiting on Censere Gaylord to announce, and they also gave J'Isaiah Mitchell an offer as a defensive back after they offered him earlier as a receiver. Will Mitchell, who recently committed to Boise State, take another look at UW on the other side of the ball? The guys also talk about the next scheduled commit that Washington fans should be paying attention to - Chandler (Ariz.) Basha OL DaJohn Yarborough. Yarborough is expected to announce his decision on July 11, a week from Friday. And if Yarborough decides Washington is not his preferred destination, who will the Huskies target? There are a couple of local prospects in Curtis' Rashaun Lavata'i (just committed to Washington State) and Inglemoor's Ben Rainwater (recently committed to Boise State) that the UW coaches could circle back on.The final question; if the Huskies do end up landing Yarborough and Gaylord to get their 2026 class number to 25 prospects, does Scott expect that number to stay at 25 by the time Signing Day comes in December?

Lassoing Leadership
Wrapping Up "Am I Literate" by Kate Arthur - S3E48 - What does it mean to lead schools in an era of AI

Lassoing Leadership

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 30, 2026 22:03

ABOUT THIS EPISODEWe have been circling this topic for a while. AI is everywhere in our schools right now, and the loudest conversations tend to be about policy and tools, about what students should or should not be allowed to do. But in this episode, Garth and Jason slow down and ask a different set of questions: What is this moment actually asking of us as leaders? What does it mean to be literate when a machine can write? And how do we build the kind of trust in our communities that makes navigating all of this possible? This is not a how-to episode. It is more of a thinking-together episode. And we think that is exactly what this moment calls for.WHAT WE GET INTO00:00 - Setting the table: why this conversation, why now05:55 - What does literacy actually mean when AI can tell your story for you?08:20 - Revisiting mission, vision, and values through an AI lens11:28 - Coherency and clarity: the leadership work only humans can do14:17 - Why imperfection might be the most important thing we can model right now16:22 - Finding the balance: technology in service of connection, not instead of it18:34 - Where we go from here, and what we are still figuring outA FEW LINES THAT STUCK WITH US"What does it mean to tell your own story?""Trust is becoming more important in our society, not less. And schools are one of the few places that can actually build it.""How are we going to build trust through imperfection? Because that might be the whole game right now."KEY TAKEAWAYSThe question of AI in schools is not primarily a technology question. It is a values question. When we sat with that, it shifted the whole conversation.Literacy has always been about more than decoding words. It is about authorship: the ability to find your voice, to make meaning, and to put something of yourself into the world. AI makes that question urgent in a new way. If a student can generate a polished essay in 30 seconds, what are we actually teaching them to do, and why? What we kept coming back to was trust. Not just the institutional kind, but the deeper kind: the trust a student has that their teachers see them, that imperfection is safe, that taking a risk will not cost them everything. Schools that can build that kind of trust will be the ones that find their footing in this moment. And the leaders who model curiosity over certainty will be the ones worth following.

Is a reverse mortgage a scam? It's the first thing most people think when they hear the phrase — and it's the first thing we tackle in this episode. Scott Kooiman sits down with Richelle Hopkins, a reverse mortgage specialist with over 20 years of experience at Mutual of Omaha Mortgage, and Steve Farrington, Senior Mortgage Loan Originator, to separate fact from fiction on one of the most misunderstood financial tools in retirement planning. What you'll learn in this episode: → Where the scam reputation came from — and why it no longer applies → How a $400,000 buyer can purchase a $700,000 home with NO monthly mortgage payment (reverse mortgage for purchase) → Three ways to access your home equity: line of credit, monthly payment, or lump sum → The guaranteed growing credit line — and why setting it up early could be one of the smartest retirement moves you make → What your heirs actually inherit — and the non-recourse protection that means your family can never owe more than the home is worth → Why there's a mandatory independent counseling step built into every reverse mortgage — and why that's a feature, not a burden → The real obligations a homeowner keeps after closing (and what happens if they can't meet them) Whether you're 55+ and planning your retirement, a financial professional looking for tools your clients aren't using, or a family member trying to help a parent make the right call — this episode gives you the honest, full picture. Steve and Adam Van Wie kick off a lively Saturday financial hour by recapping a rough week for mega-cap tech stocks, contrasting it with surprising strength in small caps, household balance sheets, and the broader job market. They pivot into policy, dissecting a new federal housing bill, corporate ownership of single-family homes, and the political theatrics around interest rates and inflation. Wrapping up, they tackle thorny Social Security fixes—from lifting the payroll tax cap to letting young workers opt out—while weaving in sharp asides on taxes, AI's limits at Ford, and America's global image during the World Cup.

Brad and Kevin are hot on the mics for Episode 149 of ShiftLess! This week, the guys dive deep into the current state of the cycling industry, looking hard at how the market is begging for a shakeup. They break down the aggressive new pricing from XDS/X Labs and their GT8 gravel bike, and Kevin questions the math of $10,000 acoustic bicycles when a fully capable adventure motorcycle sits at the same price point. The conversation also covers the sharp end of the Tour Divide, the ongoing debate over "weight weenie" culture versus the rise of 32-inch wheels for big-power riders, and the reality of navigating Texas roads on two wheels. Plus, Kevin shares his own struggles with knee pain and the mental hurdles of getting back on the bike after a hiatus, while Brad serves up details on upcoming F.A.M. culinary pop-ups and a rye whiskey pairing with Sagamore Spirits.Throw in some updates on Spinistry routes, the upcoming Gainesville bike swap and hostel concept, and a little local trail talk, and it's a packed hour. Keywords:Gravel cycling, bikepacking, Tour Divide 2026, X Labs GT8, XDS bikes, 32-inch wheels, adventure motorcycles, acoustic vs e-bikes, Idaho Stop law, Texas cycling infrastructure, Spinistry, ShiftLess podcast, endurance mountain biking, FKT.Shifless Ep. 149: Tour Divide Tracking, 32-Inch Wheels, and X Labs Disrupting Bike PricesIn episode 149 of “Shifless,” the hosts chat about Father's Day, summer paranoia when life is going well, and wildlife in the yard before shifting to bikes. They discuss Tour Divide leader Victor Bossoni's pace versus the 13d 2h 16m record and how reroutes and shifting courses complicate FKT comparisons, contrasting that with changing routes at events like Unbound. They revisit 32-inch wheel debates, suggesting bigger, more powerful riders may benefit and speculating Specialized could drive adoption (even imagining a future 32-inch Roubaix) while emphasizing the need for affordable, durable bikes. They highlight XDS/X Labs' aggressively priced GRX Di2 carbon gravel bike with a power meter and the market disruption affecting dealers. The conversation also covers upcoming Eurobike, proposed May cycling-hostel HQ in Gainesville, a September bike swap/clinics weekend possibly paired with Midnight Massacre, bar/food collaboration ideas, and a North Shore endurance ride.
