Hi, this is Jacquelyn Landgraf, writer, director, and producer of It Makes A Sound, a fiction podcast with music. The show, to me, is a tribute to the caretakers among us and within us, and it's about how to transcend solitude and loss with a jolt of whimsy, faith, and rock and roll. Season one followed Deirdre Gardner's incredible discovery of a lost cassette tape from 1992 in a dusty attic, and her quest to wake up her decrepit hometown of Rosemary Hills Golf Course Community to all that's been forgotten. We learn that Deirdre's tenacity to resurrect the songs of the mysterious former resident Wim Faros is fueled by her grief over her mother's advancing dementia. When the cassette tape gets destroyed completely by a faulty boombox, a motley crew of neighbors try to help Deirdre re-create the music on the Attic Tape, entirely from memory. Before they know it, Deirdre and her mother are fronting a wildly avant-garde, multi-generational band, whose songs accidentally go viral. In Season 2, things have taken a turn for the worse–the town of Rosemary Hills is in foreclosure and Deirdre is now struggling to care for her mother in a nursing home. But as the golf course festers in its 11th hour, mysterious messages begin to appear, insisting that "Wim Faros Lives." As things fall apart around her, Deirdre must reckon with the fact that her public plea to get people to remember Wim Faros has inadvertently created a cult sensation. This is season 2 episode 4, entitled “Old Folx.” We are together in the rec room of Rosemary Hills Nursing Home, where a nurse is leading a game of Bingo. Deirdre, her ten year old neighbor Cody Elwood, and Phil, who's grandma also lives here, are playing along with the residents, while Deirdre's mother Emma chats with a new friend, Park Song, a former golf champion and local legend in her own right. Emma Gardner, in the confusion of her illness, has for some time now been calling herself Deirdre, believing that she is a young version of her daughter, and that the shy and sensitive Phil is a teenage Wim Faros. Ok, I think that's all you need to know. Thank you for visiting Rosemary Hills! Get your Bingo card ready. A sleepy story of a tribute of the “It Makes a Sound” podcast, in pinball form. (You can find all of our sponsors or become a patron on our website http://www.sleepwithmepodcast.com story starts at about 18:00) It Makes a Sound - http://www.nightvalepresents.com/itmakesasound/ It Makes a Sound Logo byDave Watt On Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/posts/album-liner-24335076 WIM FAROS: The Attic Tape -http://www.nightvalepresents.com/itmakesasound/ Featuring Jacquelyn Landgraf as Deirdre Gardner, and the voices of Annie Golden, Nate Weida,Melissa Mahoney, and Siobhan Fallon. Written and Co-Directed by Jacquelyn Landgraf, Co-Directed by Anya Saffir, Music composed by Nate Weida, Sound Design and Engineering by Vincent Cacchione, Logo by Dave Watt. The first season of It Makes A Sound tells the story of a ragtag group of neighbors who, after a cassette player destroys the only known of recording of local legend Wim Faros, set out to recreate his music from memory. The music in the show – original songs by show creator Jacqueline Landgraf and musical collaborator Nate Weida – were originally just sketches of what the songs could sound like. Throughout season one, dedicated fans of the show asked for an album. Instead of releasing the songs as they existed in the show, Landgraf and Weida worked with producer Vincent Cacchione to create fully-realized versions of the songs, to be released as a proper album. Their finished work, titled The Attic Tape, will be available via Bandcamp and iTunes later this January. The album also features the voices of cast members Annie Golden (Hair, Orange Is the New Black) and Melissa Mahoney (Solarplexus, The Pirate La Dee Da).The album was entirely funded through listener donations. The It Makes A Sound album Patreon page currently has 110 supporters. Many supporters will receive the digital album, and the most dedicated fans will receive a copy of the album on cassette.
