Siobhan Fallon Hogan appeared on Saturday Night Life, Seinfeld, and MANY of your favorite movies. Perhaps more important are the roles she refused to take because they conflicted with her Christian faith. Siobhan joins The 40 Days for Life Podcast to discuss the best mainstream films that weren't intended to be pro-life--but nevertheless convey a pro-life message.

Filmmaker, producer, writer, and podcast guest extraordinaire Jared Bailey joins to discuss one of the iconic texts of 90s popular cinema, 'Forrest Gump' directed by Robert Zemeckis and winner of the 1994 Academy Award for Best Picture (among many others). For all its swings at grandeur, the film is a deceptively simple one in premise: An ordinary man reflects on his life, regaling passersby with his stories about coming of age in America from the 1950's onward and detailing the instances in which he became a passive observer of - or coincidental participant in - many of the generation's noteworthy events. One of the greatest box office successes of the decade, the movie is also one that perfectly encapsulates the deeply cynical politics (or the posited apoliticism) of The End of History. We discuss the film's curious flattening of the historical record, papering over the thornier details of post-war America for an audience seeking to make sense of the decades of conflict that preceded the 90s and its erasure of the material context for monumental touchstones such as the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement. Then, we explore filmmaker Robert Zemeckis and his seemingly pathological need to embed bizarre racial elements into his most popular features, often commenting in ways that become more problematic than the surface-level prejudices of his contemporaries. Finally, we discuss the long-gestating (and ultimately cancelled) sequel to the film, which would have seen Forrest involved in even more historically resonant instances such as the OJ Simpson Bronco chase and the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. This month we're just wild about Siobhan Fallon Hogan. You Might Know Her From Men In Black, Forrest Gump, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, The House That Jack Built, Shelter in Solitude, Rushed, Holes, Seinfeld, and Saturday Night Live. Siobhan gave us all the goods: from iconic dialect work in your favorite movies to her years-long collaborations with Lars von Trier. Siobhan spilled on doing bits while performing in Shakespeare in the Park, having fart competitions with Ben Gazzara on the set of Dogville, and getting horrifically killed by Matt Dillon in The House That Jack Built. We also got to talk about her turn as a screenwriter of two indie films: Rushed and Shelter in Solitude (both avail to stream now), and how her Catholic values inform all her work. A true delight from start to finish! Just feel better knowing that Lauren Bacall once asked, “Will we ever work again?” and know you are not alone! Love you mean it! Also, please note we recorded this before we both texted each other “O.J. Simpson is dead!” so yeah, O.J. Simpson is dead and maybe we conjured it by talking about his acting and prison work. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! “The reason why I wrote so many one-woman shows over the years, and then I would always get films, is because it's almost like dating. My mother used to say start dating a few guys and another guy will see you out at dinner, and that guy will then ask you out. Work begets work, but there were dry periods where I thought it was all over.” - Siobhan Fallon Hogan I've interviewed a lot of amazing individuals on this podcast and for my Forbes blog, including Pulitzer Prize winners and top leaders from around the world in all kinds of fascinating industries, and today's guest is no exception. Today's Finding Brave guest has been thriving in the entertainment industry for many years now, and in this episode, she reveals the lessons that you can take from her life's journey and apply to all areas of your life to great success. For over thirty years, Siobhan Fallon Hogan has been one of the most iconic and recognizable working character actresses, appearing in blockbuster comedies (Men in Black) as frequently as independents (Dancer in the Dark, Dogville). Now, for the first time, Fallon Hogan is appearing in a lead role, starring as the tortured yet deeply relatable (and often funny) matriarch in the thriller, Rushed, which she wrote and produced. Fallon Hogan's first role was in Golden Girls, and she has appeared in (or had featured roles in) Saturday Night Live, Seinfeld, Forrest Gump, and many more TV shows and films. Her film Rushed features Fallon Hogan's friends and family in her hometown of Rumson, New Jersey—and serves as a capstone to one of the most unsung careers in Hollywood. For decades, the talents of character actresses like Fallon Hogan have gone overlooked, which is in part why she decided to write and produce this female-directed (and casted and edited) film. It is the story of Barbara O'Brien (Fallon Hogan), an Irish Catholic mother living in upstate New York who says her rosary daily, then swears profusely as she drives her kids to school. After her life is ruined when her son Jimmy, a college freshman, is involved in a fraternity hazing incident, Barbara resorts to extreme measures. Personally speaking, I found it riveting, relatable and a deeply moving film. Siobhan is someone who has created her own luck through a lot of hard work and a continued, unwavering belief in herself and her talents and abilities, and it was such a pleasure to have her join me for a conversation on this podcast. I've so enjoyed Siobhan's work over the years, and loved her new movie Rushed. We would be thrilled if you'd check out Rushed and let us know how this powerful story resonates with you. It's a story I believe that all mothers will relate to strongly, as well as those who've been through any kind of situation that forced you to do something you've never wanted to, and never dreamed you'd have to. Jesuit-educated actress Siobhan Fallon Hogan has had an incredibly busy acting career over the last three decades, from appearing in Saturday Night Live and Seinfeld in the early 1990s to roles in movies like Forrest Gump, Men in Black and the Lars Von Trier musical drama Dancer in the Dark. Most recently, she made her screenwriting debut with a movie called Rushed. Siobhan also stars in the film as an Irish Catholic mother in upstate New York who has to figure out how to respond to a tragic fraternity hazing incident that strikes her family. Host Mike Jordan Laskey asked Siobhan about what it was like to try screenwriting for the first time, and how she prepares for a dramatic role versus a comedic one. They also talked about her strong Catholic faith and how her home parish pitched in to the filming of Rushed in a few awesome ways. Finally, they got into her Jesuit education at LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York, plus how she managed raising three kids while working an extremely full schedule that took her all over the world. Hello Ladies & Gentlemen, Welcome to the Undisputed Wrestling Podcast. Welcome to our podcast series called "Wrestling With Film" where every month we'll be reviewing a movie that has featured professional wrestlers. "The Undisputed Rev" James Woolford is joined by "John Cena's Biggest Fan" Callum Hogan to review the 2010 film Fred: The Movie that featured John Cena. Fred: The Movie is a 2010 television comedy film written by David Goodman directed by Clay Weiner and produced by Brian Robbins. The film is based on the adventures of Fred Figglehorn, a character created and played by Lucas Cruikshank for Cruikshank's YouTube channel, and it is the first film in the Fred trilogy. The film casts Siobhan Fallon Hogan and John Cena as Fred's parents and pop singer and actress Pixie Lott as Fred's crush Judy. Fred Figglehorn, an unpopular, hyperactive 15-year-old who wears childish dungarees, striped T-shirts and suspenders, believes himself to be cool and a good singer. He is in love with a girl named Judy, and is devastated to see her performing a romantic duet with his rival Kevin during a music class. Following this, Fred aspires to one day sing his own duet with Judy. After an attempt to dig his way to her house to avoid harassment by Kevin, Fred discovers that she has moved, so he throws a massive tantrum by tearing up his living room and later cleaning it up. Thus, Fred embarks on a journey to find Judy's new house and sing with her there. During the quest, Fred encounters a myriad of characters including a Hispanic man who doesn't speak English; a talking deer; a bedraggled childhood friend who had gotten lost in the forest years earlier (known as Little Evan Weiss); a neighbourhood girl named Bertha; and a boy named Derf with a personality diametrically opposite to his own. Eventually arriving at Judy's home, Fred discovers that she is hosting a party to which he was not invited. Fred is bullied by her guests for his poor social standing at school, and his eccentric personality. Kevin then shoves a pizza onto Fred's shirt, causing him to unintentionally vomit on Judy's party dress. Miserable, Fred leaves the house and is infuriated to find that Kevin has posted a video of him vomiting on Judy on YouTube. In an attempt to get revenge, Fred decides to throw a party of his own to which no one will be invited. To deceive others into believing that he has held a spectacular house party, Fred invites Bertha over, where they costume mannequins in different outfits and clown around while filming the proceedings. Fred alters the video of the fake party and posts it on the internet, whereupon his peers are misled into believing that Fred and Bertha actually held an extraordinary party. Following this, Judy visits Fred's house and asks if the two may sing together, and Fred accepts the request.# Next up on Wrestling With Film we'll be joined by "The Scottish Sensation" Ian Milne. Make sure you head over to our twitter account and vote on the poll for what we'll review next. The choices are The Longest Yard, Tooth Fairy and Blockers. We’ve needed to talk about Lynne Ramsay for a long time. And what better way to do it, than to punish ourselves with her chilling and challenging creation, We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011). Perhaps more poetic than literal, this harrowing dive into the darker reaches of the human psyche succeeds in critiquing modern day America’s mishandling of young, violent boys. And while the subject matter is dour, the movie’s style, tone, and intelligence make it worth a watch. Join us as we slump into our sadness, practically beg for money, and celebrate Siobhan Fallon Hogan, this week on Ex Rated Movies!

"The House That Jack Built" er film nr. 2, i vores Lars Von Trier tema. The House that Jack Built isn’t getting a wide release until December 14th, but we went to a one night only showing of the director’s cut a month early at the Cinema 21 in Portland. So this is a rare instance where we can provide a review well in advance of a wide release. https://youtu.be/c6DuLPGZIoQ The film tells the story of an unassuming, yet prolific serial killer named Jack. It's told through a series of 5 short vignettes of some of his notable kills. It’s told over the course of 12 years from the mid-late 70’s to the mid-late 80s and takes place in the rural Pacific NorthWest of the United States. Jack’s nom de guerre is Mr. Sophistication, which he writes on the grisly photos he takes of his victims. Watch The House That Jack BuiltThe House That Jack Built Full MovieClick here to Watch Throughout the film Jack's descriptions of his personal condition, problems and thoughts are told through a recurring conversation with the unknown "Verge". Jack views himself as a sophisticated man and the story is told through his own mixture of arrogant and narcissistic sophistry. The House That Jack Built Review If that sounds like a pretty pretentious serial killer movie, well, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t. The film is directed by Lars Von Trier, who also directed all of those art house movies you meant to see but never got around to. Jack is played by Matt Dillon, which is probably the best part of the movie. I thought he did a fantastic job portraying a psychopath pantomiming normal human facial expressions and when required had great comedic timing. Jack acts as the films unreliable narrator, and tells the story of his failings and mental illness from his elevated perspective of himself and his “art”. Jack’s victims include the likes of Uma Thurman, Siobhan Fallon Hogan (that lady from MIB), and Riley Keough among others. The death scenes where genuinely disturbing, and acted as punctuation for Jack’s ruminations. Check Out Our Review of The Dead Don't Die! https://www.horrormovietalk.com/2019/06/19/the-dead-dont-die-review/ I appreciated that they didn’t dwell on the fetishization of the killings themselves, they were handled more or less matter-of-factly which to me, makes them more impactful. It definitely delves into the distasteful and absurd with his storage and… use of the bodies. I could see how this film could be viewed as too pretentious for it’s own good, but somehow it worked for me. We saw the director’s cut, so there was definitely some fat that could be cut to improve pacing and make it slightly less art-housey, but I found myself laughing and cringing at the right moments. My Rating 7/10 Spoilers This is a serial killer movie that definitely pushes the envelope. Many of the killing scenes seem a little too real, and feel a little like watching a sudden snuff film. Uma Thurman's character all but dares Jack to murder her and he obliges. It's almost expected. The other murders are expected, but what is surprising is their brutality and grotesqueness. The point at which the film really changes tone is when Jack murders a small family on a supposed hunting picnic. Little does the woman and her children know that they are the ones hunted. The set up sounds like a generic 90's thriller, but in this movie, it is a cold and brutal sequence where you get to experience the murder of children in the first person. Then to double down on the tastelessness, Jack taxidermy's one of the young boys to greet him for when he enters his body storage fridge. If you're like me and can compartmentalize this type of violence and can appreciate the absurdity and gallows humor of the likes of The Human Centipede, then this movie might be of interest to you. The eponymous house of this film is proof enough that Lars Von Trier isn't as interested in high art as Jack "Mr. Sophistication" is. Check Out Our Review of The Killing of a Sacred Deer!
On this week's episode, the gang brings (Some of) The Worst of 2017 month to a close with a conversation around Zach Braff's Going in Style! Why do these old fellas insist on debasing themselves with these trash films? Why opt for multiple "straight man" character actors and leave all the comedy to the single comedian in the main cast... of this comedy? And how long can the gang go without falling into the dreaded Arkin/Alda trap? PLUS: Coming this fall from WHM Entertainment, Alan Alda, Alan Arkin, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and a shit ton of other elderly character actors come together for the Expendables of geriatric comedies... Funny Funeral! Going in Style stars Alan Arkin, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Ann-Margaret, John Ortiz, Josh Pais, Matt Dillon, Joey King, Peter Serafinowicz, Maria Dizzia, Christopher Lloyd, Kenan Thompson, and Siobhan Fallon Hogan; directed by Zach Braff.

Hey Sprinklerz! Today's another "Favorites" episode of Sprinklez where I talk about two of my all-time-faves: Fox's WAYWARD PINES (Season 1 & 2 are on Hulu) and Disney's GRAVITY FALLS (Season 1 & 2 are on Hulu). WAYWARD PINES is a fantastic and mysterious thriller set in the too-perfect town of Wayward Pines nestled in the forest of the American North West. Executive producer M. Night Shyamalan brings us a fast paced, plot twisting story pulled from the pages of the trilogy of books by author Blake Crouch entitled; Pines (2012); Wayward (2013); and The Last Town(2014). I rave on about the amazing cast and despite watching countless YouTube videos on the matter, I still totally mess up Siobhan Fallon Hogan's name (It's pronounced Shavon, who knew? Sadly, not me.) She is amazingly funny and endearing in this show. Then I almost burst with excitement about Disney's GRAVITY FALLS which is cartoon-cuteness overload. Set again in the mysterious northwest it features a set of twins, Mabel and Dipper Pines as they arrive at their Grunkle Stan's house for the summer. His home doubles as a Mystery Shack which is a tourist trap full off oddities. The siblings find themselves solving one puzzling mystery after another while encountering the adorably-weird mythical creatures of the forest. Cannot say enough about this show!! Smart, funny, charming. Last but not least I tell you why you need Nestlé's CHUNKY candy bar in your life!!! Tangents: The Village (For rent or purchase on Amazon Prime Video) One of my Favorite M. Night Shyamalan Bob's Burger (Netflix/Hulu) One of the best comedies ever! Empire (Fox/Hulu) Fantastic modern soap opera with great music!
