Hi, this is Jacquelyn Landgraf, writer, director, and producer of It Makes A Sound, a fiction podcast with music. The show, to me, is a tribute to the caretakers among us and within us, and it's about how to transcend solitude and loss with a jolt of whimsy, faith, and rock and roll. Season one followed Deirdre Gardner's incredible discovery of a lost cassette tape from 1992 in a dusty attic, and her quest to wake up her decrepit hometown of Rosemary Hills Golf Course Community to all that's been forgotten. We learn that Deirdre's tenacity to resurrect the songs of the mysterious former resident Wim Faros is fueled by her grief over her mother's advancing dementia. When the cassette tape gets destroyed completely by a faulty boombox, a motley crew of neighbors try to help Deirdre re-create the music on the Attic Tape, entirely from memory. Before they know it, Deirdre and her mother are fronting a wildly avant-garde, multi-generational band, whose songs accidentally go viral. In Season 2, things have taken a turn for the worse–the town of Rosemary Hills is in foreclosure and Deirdre is now struggling to care for her mother in a nursing home. But as the golf course festers in its 11th hour, mysterious messages begin to appear, insisting that "Wim Faros Lives." As things fall apart around her, Deirdre must reckon with the fact that her public plea to get people to remember Wim Faros has inadvertently created a cult sensation. This is season 2 episode 4, entitled “Old Folx.” We are together in the rec room of Rosemary Hills Nursing Home, where a nurse is leading a game of Bingo. Deirdre, her ten year old neighbor Cody Elwood, and Phil, who's grandma also lives here, are playing along with the residents, while Deirdre's mother Emma chats with a new friend, Park Song, a former golf champion and local legend in her own right. Emma Gardner, in the confusion of her illness, has for some time now been calling herself Deirdre, believing that she is a young version of her daughter, and that the shy and sensitive Phil is a teenage Wim Faros. Ok, I think that's all you need to know. Thank you for visiting Rosemary Hills! Get your Bingo card ready. We want to tell you about a podcast you'll like if you like Play On! It's a musical fiction podcast called It Makes A Sound, and it's about a daughter and a mother and the origin story of an unlikely cult sensation. Season one follows Deirdre Gardner on a quest to revive the sound of a generation off a busted cassette tape from 1992, and wake up her decrepit hometown of Rosemary Hills Golf Course Community to all that's been forgotten. In Season two, which just launched, the town of Rosemary Hills is in foreclosure and Deirdre is struggling to care for her mother in a nursing home. It Makes a Sound stars Jacquelyn Landgraf and features Annie Golden of The Shirts, with original music by Vin Cacchione of Caged Animals and Soft Black. And cool fact: The original soundtrack album, Wim Faros: the Attic Tape, was initiated and financed entirely on Patreon by the listeners, and charted in its first week due entirely to word-of-mouth from fans. The first season of It Makes A Sound tells the story of a ragtag group of neighbors who, after a cassette player destroys the only known of recording of local legend Wim Faros, set out to recreate his music from memory. The music in the show – original songs by show creator Jacqueline Landgraf and musical collaborator Nate Weida – were originally just sketches of what the songs could sound like. Throughout season one, dedicated fans of the show asked for an album. Instead of releasing the songs as they existed in the show, Landgraf and Weida worked with producer Vincent Cacchione to create fully-realized versions of the songs, to be released as a proper album. Their finished work, titled The Attic Tape, will be available via Bandcamp and iTunes later this January. The album also features the voices of cast members Annie Golden (Hair, Orange Is the New Black) and Melissa Mahoney (Solarplexus, The Pirate La Dee Da).The album was entirely funded through listener donations. Hey Sprinklers! Today I have a gem of a podcast recommendation from Nightvale Presents: IT MAKES A SOUND! Which is an incredibly upbeat and slightly sanguine (yeah I had to look the meaning of that word up) fictional tale that is so engaging and at the same time joyously uplifting! It stars the fantastically creative Jacquelyn Landgraf (Who also writes and co-directs the episodes). Then I tell you about one of my all time favorite murder mystery shows of all time: THE KILLING. Which stars one of the best actresses on any size screen Mireille Enos (World War Z) and the immensely powerful acting of Joel Kinsman (Robocop/Suicide Squad). People have come back and thanked me for recommending this one. Beware it is very intense and touches on disturbing subject matter!! And last but certainly not least, I have this week's Tasty-Treat-Sesation is the Australian styled yoghurt, NOOSA. Which comes in a variety of sizes and flavors. Creamy and delicious!! (They have citrus flavors including Pineapple, and Blood Orange!) Tangents: Alice Isn't Dead. Also from Night Vale Presents is my favorite of all their podcasts, about a female trucker played by Jasika Nicole (Fringe) in search of her missing wife. It's a little sci-fi a lot of fun. The Family (Amazon, for purchase/rent only. Not on Prime) Staring Joan Allen (Nixon), Rupert Graves (A Room With a View), Andrew McCarthy (Pretty in Pink) starts out as a great thriller mystery but gets tied up in unseemly and unnecessary plot lines. Worth watching for the performances and if you can imagine what could have been a really good is he/isn't he an imposter show.

It Makes A Sound

Deirdre Gardner finds a lost cassette tape from 1992 in the attic of a townhouse in an abandoned golf-course community and embarks on a mission to remind us all of the forgotten musical genius, Wim Faros. It Makes A Sound follows Deirdre’s nostalgic journey into Wim’s legacy: a quest to restore what is missing and to revive the sound of a generation. Created by Jacquelyn Landgraf (actor, writer, director, and downtown theater curio; a longtime member of the New York Neo-Futurists), with original music by Nate Weida. Co-directed by Anya Saffir. Sound design and engineering by Vincent Cacchione. Featuring the voices of Jacquelyn Landgraf, Annie Golden (Orange is the New Black, Hair), Nate Weida, Melissa Mahoney, Siobhan Fallon (Saturday Night Live, Wayward Pines), and other special guests. Produced by Night Vale Presents, the network that brought you Welcome to Night Vale, Alice Isn’t Dead, Within the Wires, The Orbiting Human Circus (of the Air), Conversations with People Who Hate Me, and I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats.
