My guest is Dr. Christopher Gardner, Ph.D., professor of medicine and director of nutrition studies at Stanford. He is known for his pioneering research on the impact of dietary interventions on weight loss and health. We compare ketogenic, vegetarian, vegan and omnivorous diets—and why there is no one-size-fits-all approach. All agree, however, that eliminating or dramatically reducing processed foods is best for health. We discuss the protein needs controversy; plant vs. animal proteins; the importance of fiber and low-sugar fermented foods for gut health and inflammation; and how diet affects gene expression. We also review food allergies—including gluten, wheat, dairy and soy—as well as raw dairy. The episode offers data-supported advice for healthier eating. Regenerative farming pioneer Joel Salatin joins Dr. Jordan B. Peterson to challenge the myth that cows are bad for the planet. They explore how pasture-based farming restores ecosystems, the dangers of industrial agriculture, and why storytelling matters in the fight for the future of food. Joel Salatin, dubbed the "Lunatic Farmer," is a Christian libertarian environmentalist and one of the most outspoken voices in regenerative agriculture. Co-owner of Polyface Farm in Virginia, he supplies thousands with pasture-raised meats and teaches sustainable farming worldwide. With 16 books, such as “The Omnivore's Dilemma," countless columns, and a wildly engaging speaking style, Salatin blends mischief, grit, and deep cultural insight to challenge how we think about food, freedom, and stewardship of the land. Omnivore Recordings co-founder and four-time Gramny-winning producer Cheryl Pawelski has figured out how to do what she loves for a living. She went from obsessing about music in Milwaukee to having great adventures in the "floater pool" at Capitol Records in Los Angeles. With stints at Rhino and Concord as well, she oversaw ambitious reissues by, among others, the Band, Big Star, the Smithereens, the Beach Boys, Pat Benatar, Nina Simone and the Miles Davis Quintet. Her long association with Wilco has included deluxe boxes for Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (which won a Grammy) and, earlier this year, A Ghost Is Born. She won another Grammy for the 2023 7-CD set Written In Their Soul: The Stax Songwriter Demos. She recounts it all with the passion of a fan, even as she deals with the challenges of running a record label and the recent loss of her Altadena home in the Southern California wildfires. The Real Truth About Health Free 17 Day Live Online Conference Podcast
Steve Blake explores whether humans are naturally carnivores, omnivores, or plant eaters, based on genetic adaptation. Discover the dietary choices best suited for human health. #DietaryScience #GeneticAdaptation #HealthyEating
After spending some weeks on the best way to eat—according to my “food rules” as a health coach and someone who eats early, often, and a lot—we're now taking a look at what to do once you are eating whole foods, cooked from scratch, in moderate portions, and with mindfulness and gratitude. What's “next level” in terms of food choices? It's SOLE food. Last week we dug into seasonal eating, and this week, our post is brought to us by the letter O for organic.related episodes S is for seasonalresources UCLA study on benefits of fermented milk products Michael Pollan, The Omnivore's Dilemma Oran Hesterman, Fair Food Nina Planck, Real Food Eric Schlosser, Fast Food Nation Samuel Fromartz, Organic, Inc. Wednesday, February 26 - Host and American Family Farmer, Doug Stephan www.eastleighfarm.com shares the news affecting small farmers in America, including a focus on the Senate's overwhelming approval of Brooke Rollins for United States Secretary of Agriculture, new findings that the avian flu has hit cattle more severely than originally suspected, and a report on the American Soybean Association and the American Sugar Beet Growers Association calling on the EPA to work with them to reform the endangered species act and how it applies to pesticides. Next, Doug introduces us to Claire Benjack of River Road Farm in Franklin, VA (RiverRoadFarmVA.com). Claire explains her farm is more of a passion project as they barely break even, but he priority remains to put healthy food people can feed to their children, which is a big reason her eggs are so popular — not only are they healthy, but she refuses to raise her prices. When Claire was 10, she asked for a farm. Her dad had been thinking about buying a farm on which to raise cattle. This farm in Franklin came on the market, so he bout it and had a short stint in finishing cattle. Up to a thousand head roamed the family acreage. The farm ended up being unsuccessful, so he moved on, and then passed away in 2001. Claire read “Omnivore's Dilemma,” a nonfiction book investigating the environmental and animal welfare effects of various food choices, when she decided to get into farming again. Claire sunk a bunch of money into fencing, started with 5 cows and sold those to friends. She slowly grew to where the farm is today, using money that her dad had invested for her. Claire says they never break even on the farm, and calls it her lemonade stand; it keeps her busy. Claire's husband had the idea of holding concerts on the property, and they gave all the money to the local food bank. They consider themselves more philanthropists than farmers. At River Road Farm, they care deeply about the food they eat, and that's why the farm abides by the philosophy of grass-feeding their cattle, naturally, in order to create the most wholesome and high-quality beef. A strict grass-only diet, as opposed to a grain-based diet, gives cattle a higher quality of life, which in turn provides a higher quality, more heart-healthy product. Lastly, Farmer Doug opines why smaller farms are better than the big agri-business farms and why respecting the animals and the land on farms is imperative to contributing to healthy, better quality food for our loved ones.Website: AmericanFamilyFarmerShow.com Social Media: @GoodDayNetworks

Particularly what caffeine and energy drinks are missing is they're just giving you energy, but you have no ability to use it properly. They keep you awake but you're miserable." - Jeff Boyd Why Multitasking Is a Myth "Multitasking is a term that was made for computers. Humans cannot multitask. We can shift from one task to another in a nanosecond so it seems like we can multitask, but we are hardwired. We can only do one thing at a time." - Jeff Boyd Paraxanthine Gives You More Than Energy "Paraxanthine gives you smooth energy. It's increasing short-term memory, cognition under physical stress, and the ability to pay attention. That's more than energy. That's being able to have energy to then go deploy it, use it, and be your best self. ABOUT JOEL Joel Salatin calls himself a Christian libertarian environmentalist capitalist lunatic farmer. Others who like him call him the most famous farmer in the world, the high priest of the pasture, and the most eclectic thinker from Virginia since Thomas Jefferson. Those who don't like him call him a bio-terrorist, Typhoid Mary, charlatan, and starvation advocate. With 12 published books and a thriving multi-generational family farm, he draws on a lifetime of food, farming, and fantasy to entertain and inspire audiences around the world. He's as comfortable moving cows in a pasture as addressing CEOs at a Wall Street business conference. He co-owns, with his family, Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia. Featured in the New York Times bestseller Omnivore's Dilemma and award-winning documentary Food Inc., the farm services more than 5,000 families, 50 restaurants, 10 retail outlets, and a farmers' market with salad bar beef, pigaerator pork, pastured poultry, and forestry products. When he's not on the road speaking, he's at home on the farm, keeping the callouses on his hands and dirt under his fingernails, mentoring young people, inspiring visitors, and promoting local, regenerative food and farming systems. Salatin is the editor of The Stockman Grass Farmer, granddaddy catalyst for the grass farming movement. He writes the Pitchfork Pulpit column for Mother Earth News, as well as numerous guest articles for ACRES USA and other publications. A frequent guest on radio programs and podcasts targeting preppers, homesteaders, and foodies, Salatin's practical, can-do solutions tied to passionate soliloquies for sustainability offer everyone food for thought and plans for action. A rapidly growing number of developers worldwide This suggests AI isn't just helping more people learn to write code or build software faster—it's also attracting and helping more people become developers. First-time open source contributors continue to show wide-scale interest in AI projects. But we aren't seeing signs that AI has hurt open source with low-quality contributions. Python is now the most used language on GitHub as global open source activity continues to extend beyond traditional software development. The rise in Python usage correlates with large communities of people joining the open source community from across the STEM world rather than the traditional community of software developers. There's a continued increase in first-time contributors to open source projects. 1.4 million new developers globally joined open source with a majority contributing to commercially backed and generative AI projects. Notably, we did not see a rise in rejected pull requests. This could indicate that quality remains high despite the influx of new contributors. Protein — how much do we need? What's the healthiest way to consume it? Can we get enough from plant-based diets? Until recent decades, protein hasn't been quite as prominent in public health discussions as sugar and fats. However, with longer lifespans emphasizing the importance of protein for long-term health, and growing confusion around the quality and quantity of protein needed, it has become a highly debated macronutrient. In ‘Your Brain On… Protein', we explore: • The brain health benefits (and general health benefits) of protein • Plant-based protein vs. meat protein, and supplements like protein powders • How much protein we really need to eat every day • Ways we can all introduce more protein into our diets • Why ‘health' influencers are suddenly recommending unusually high levels of protein consumption • How we measure the quality of proteins, including digestibility and absorption In this episode, we're joined by two fantastic nutrition experts: DR. MATTHEW NAGRA, nutritionist and science communicator. DR. ALAN FLANAGAN, esteemed nutrition scientist (previously featured in ‘Your Brain On… Sugar' and ‘Your Brain On… Fats' ‘Your Brain On' is hosted by neurologists, scientists and public health advocates Ayesha and Dean Sherzai. "A Boot And A Shoe" The Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Sam Phillips has had quite a career. The Glendale-born musician has almost fifteen albums under her musical belt, including The Indescribable Wow, Cruel Inventions, Martinis and Bikinis, Cold Dark Nights and the newly reissued version of A Boot And A Shoe. We'll get to that in a minute, but before we do, let me give you a partial list of folks she's collaborated with over the years: R.EM., Elvis Costello, T-Bone Burnett, Van Dyke Parks, Marc Ribot, Jim Keltner, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Other career highlights; she's composed scores for Gilmore Girls, Bunheads and the Marvelous Ms. Maisel, she appeared in Die Hard With A Vengeance and Wim Wenders' The End Of Violence (the throat cutting I referenced comes in the former) and her handmade collages on repurposed vintage album sleeves that were found at flea markets.were exhibited at the Gertrude Contemporary in Australia. But back to a Boot and A Shoe. The 2004 album has been given a proper reissue by Omnivore to commemorate its 20th anniversary. Available on CD and on vinyl for the very first time along with new liner notes penned by Phillips, the thirteen track album has never sounded better. Thanks to Phillips' lyrical dexterity and elegant phrasing and featuring numbers like "Reflecting Light," "If I Could Write," "Hole In My Pocket" and "One Day Late," A Boot And A Shoe" remains a timeless classic. www.samphillips.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers The Podcast Twitter (what's left of it): @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com (mailto:editor@stereoembersmagazine.com)

Join us as we explore the transformative journey of Angus McIntosh, a former London stockbroker turned regenerative agriculture practitioner in South Africa. Angus shares his compelling story of transitioning from the corporate world to managing a wine farm near Cape Town. Influenced by Michael Pollan's "The Omnivore's Dilemma," he embraced regenerative farming practices that challenge traditional agriculture norms. Angus offers insights into the contrast between conventional and regenerative agriculture, particularly in the United States, and discusses the unique challenges he faced while branding his products under the name "Farmer Angus." Through his experiences, we gain an understanding of the potential regenerative agriculture holds for the environment and local communities. Our discussion also highlights the vital role of marketing in farming, emphasizing how effective strategies can shift farmers from being price takers to price makers. Drawing on his background in equity sales, Angus shares his insights into the importance of clearly communicating a core offering, a concept inspired by a talk from Tai Lopez. This approach has led to adjustments in branding and online presence, aiming to better connect with consumers. By focusing on clearly defining and presenting a value proposition, Angus hopes to improve market positioning and attract a wider customer base.Angus takes us further into the intricacies of livestock management, sustainable farming strategies, and the exciting potential of crossbreeding. He shares innovative practices on his farm, from free choice minerals for cattle to using eggmobiles for laying hens. Angus also discusses the integration of European cattle breeds with local genetics and the role of pigs in land rehabilitation. Few things are more valuable in life than the food we eat and the soil that grows it. So today, we have the great honor of talking with Joel Salatin. Named "the most famous farmer in America", Joel has spent his career advocating for sustainable farming practices, and pioneering models that show how food can be grown & raised in ways that: - are regenerative to our topsoils - are more humane to livestock - produce much healthier, tastier food - contribute profitably to the local economy Who wouldn't want that? Well, the government and Big Ag for starters. Joel refers to himself a "lunatic farmer" because so many of the changes he thinks our food systems need are either illegal under current law or mightily resisted by the deep-pocketed corporations controlling production and distribution. But that doesn't stop him from his passion of inspiring others to take a better path. He co-owns and operates, with his family, Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia. Featured in the New York Times bestseller Omnivore's Dilemma and award-winning documentary Food Inc., the farm services more than 5,000 families, 50 restaurants, 10 retail outlets, and a farmers' market with produce and pastured beef, pork, poultry, as well as forestry products. On the farm, Joel and his staff pilot new practices, mentor young farmers, educate the public, and produce an excellent set of workshops for those looking to truly 'get their hands dirty' learning how to farm sustainably. He's a true hero to many, including me. And I predict he'll be one of yours, too, by the end of this discussion. Food is never just food. That's the idea behind Omnivore, an Apple TV+ series that peels back the layers on eight common foodstuffs — coffee, corn, salt, rice, bananas, chilies, pork, and tuna. Narrated by Noma chef Rene Redzepi, the show serves up gorgeous images and fascinating characters. But it goes way beyond that. Each episode explores the cultural, historical, and socioeconomic context of a single ingredient, whether that's the connection between coffee cultivation and the 1994 Rwandan genocide or the impact of climate change on rice cultivation in Kerala, India or how a family of Serbian pepper farmers grows peppers in an effort to make exceptional paprika. Redzepi discusses the making of Omnivore with Elvis Mitchell on The Treatment. You can hear more episodes of The Treatment here.

This week on The Treatment, Elvis welcomes René Redzepi, acclaimed chef and co-owner of the world famous restaurant Noma. He is currently hosting the Apple TV+ series Omnivore. Then, blockbuster director Shawn Levy joins to talk about the newest addition to the MCU — Deadpool & Wolverine. And on The Treat, writer Lorraine Nicholson shares the “operatic” film that turned her on to the language of cinema.
In this special episode of Dinner SOS, Bon Appetit and Epicurious Editor in Chief Jamila Robinson sits down with chef René Redzepi and writer Matt Goulding, two of the creators of the new Apple TV+ series Omnivore. They talk about the pursuit of deliciousness, and the actions we as consumers and eaters can take to make choices that better support the people making our food.

Hugo and Ross Turner are twin brothers and professional adventurers. I first discovered them when I came across their various diet and fitness experiments, in which they have studied the differences between a vegan vs. omnivore diet, weighted vs. body weight gym programs, animal protein vs. plant protein for muscle gain, and a 20-minute vs. a 40-minute gym program to discover if 40 minutes actually offers twice the benefits (you'd be surprised at the results, which we discuss in this podcast!). In 2007, Hugo narrowly missed paralysis after breaking his neck in a diving accident. In the mix of emotions that followed, a drive emerged to pursue their passion for exploration, anchored by three values: purpose, discovery, and always doing it together. Ross and Hugo have since gone on to complete many expeditions which include rowing the Atlantic Ocean, attempting to cross the Greenland ice cap, climbing Mt. Elbrus, and reaching several of the world's continental poles of inaccessibility. Over the years, the twins have compared the clothing systems, kits, and food of past explorers against the latest modern equivalents to understand the performance differences. Working with scientific teams, they have provided unique insights into how the human body is affected by technology. They have reached several of the world's poles of inaccessibility while testing technology that helps fight climate change (like electric motorbikes), and recently tested a yacht powered by an electric motor and hydrogen fuel cell. These projects have supported the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In this episode, you'll get an insider's look into the Turner Twins' various experiments and journeys mentioned above, plus you'll discover much more about their adventurous, explorative, and innovative lives. With that said, let's dive into how they can enhance your understanding of geography, technology, science, human performance, and history!
