Tommy and Ben discuss President Trump's visit to Asia: the weird dancing, his meetings with the new prime minister of Japan and Chinese President Xi Jinping, and his annoying victory laps when Trump “solves” problems he himself created. They also unpack two recent examples of blatant government corruption, including Trump's pardon of a crypto billionaire and an Army contract to purchase drones from a company “advised” by Donald Trump Jr. Then they discuss the “next generation” of the Pentagon press corps (one filled with MAGA sycophants), a rebel group's capture of a major city in Sudan and how the UAE is fueling the Sudanese civil war, more US strikes against alleged drug traffickers in the Pacific, Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu's announcement that he has ordered “forceful strikes” on Hamas and what it means for the Gaza ceasefire agreement, a legislative election win for President Javier Milei in Argentina, an anti-tariff ad in Canada that invoked Ronald Reagan, and Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau making their relationship official. Then Tommy speaks with former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul about his new book Autocrats vs. Democrats: China, Russia, America, and the New Global Disorder. For a closed-captioned version of this episode, click here. In this episode of Ancient Warfare Answers, Murray Dahm explores the link between the Korybantic and Kouretic dances and the ancient warrior tradition. Unlike the more familiar Pyrrhic dance—used as military training—these ritual performances were deeply spiritual, involving ecstatic movement, clashing weapons, and the warding of evil. But could such rituals have shaped not just warrior identity, but also the tools of war themselves? Murray considers how spiritual beliefs may have influenced the way ancient cultures approached weapons, armour, and even materials like bronze and iron. Ailish Forfar and Justin Cuthbert start the show with Foul Territory's Alanna Rizzo (1:35) to discuss the AL playoff picture with under two weeks to go in MLB's regular season. She gets into the Blue Jays' recent play as they look to clinch a postseason spot, their formula for playoff success, the Tigers' poorly timed slump and the Mariners' scorching stretch. Then, she weighs in on Clayton Kershaw's legacy after he announced this would be his final season. Later, Sportsnet's Mark Spector stops by (25:47) to discuss the concern levels amongst the Edmonton Oilers faithful as they await a decision from Connor McDavid on a possible extension. Finally, Ailish and Justin react to another LA star announcing their retirement, with Anze Kopitar making the 2025-26 NHL season his last. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

Do you ever feel like everyone around you picks up choreography faster than you? It's frustrating, embarrassing, and can leave you spiraling with self-doubt. I know, because I've been there. In today's episode of Dance Colleges and Careers, we're diving into how to pick up choreography faster—and it's not about talent, it's about strategy. Even before the continuing acts of gun violence in the US this week, I had chosen a theme that necessitated a rather sombre setlist: the artistry of Canadian-born singer George London in recital. Though London was one of the premier operatic bass-baritones in the 1950s, he also reserved a significant corner of his artistic endeavors for the recital stage. This episode focuses on London's live and studio recordings of this repertoire, which, in part simply by virtue of the dark color of his voluminous voice, tended toward the serious: Schubert's Heine settings, Brahms's Vier ernste Gesänge, Ibert's Don Quichotte songs, Duparc's sepia-toned melodies, Mahler's Kindertotenlieder, and his calling-card, Mussorgsky's Songs and Dances of Death. Examples of London singing all of this repertoire are included, accompanied by Paul Ulanowsky, Leo Taubman, Erik Werba, and John Newmark, among others. The episode is dedicated to the memory of all innocent victims in the epidemic of gun violence in the United States. Countermelody is a podcast devoted to the glory and the power of the human voice raised in song. Singer and vocal aficionado Daniel Gundlach explores great singers of the past and present focusing in particular on those who are less well-remembered today than they should be. Daniel's lifetime in music as a professional countertenor, pianist, vocal coach, voice teacher, and author yields an exciting array of anecdotes, impressions, and “inside stories.” At Countermelody's core is the celebration of great singers of all stripes, their instruments, and the connection they make to the words they sing. By clicking on the following link (https://linktr.ee/CountermelodyPodcast) you can find the dedicated Countermelody website which contains additional content including artist photos and episode setlists. The link will also take you to Countermelody's Patreon page, where you can pledge your monthly or yearly support at whatever level you can afford.

TBLS EP 591 Introduction and show info (0:00) The hosts, Brian Beckner and Ed Daily, introduce themselves and the show, noting that it's episode 591 and "seems like just yesterday we did 500." They confirm that the show is likely to end on December 31st of this year. They also provide contact information: "mailbag at the baller lifestyle.com" for emails, a phone number for voicemails, and a reminder to subscribe to their Patreon for bonus content. Michigan Football and Biff Pogge (1:05) The hosts discuss the suspension of Michigan's coach, which they assume is related to the "whole Connor Stallions thing." They are surprised to learn that Biff Pogge is the interim coach for the next two games, recalling him from a previous podcast episode and describing him as a "blast from our past." A discussion of past podcasts (3:08) The hosts lament never getting around to doing their NFL preview for the season. They reflect on the increasing shortness of their shows and joke about the pre-show routine involving Brian eating half a watermelon, which he says "is my pre-show snack ritual." People who died this week (4:23) The hosts list several people who have recently passed away: Cigar Kundu (4:23), a 22-year-old YouTuber from Bangladesh who died after slipping and falling into a waterfall. Ken Dryden (6:08), a "six-time Stanley Cup-winning goaltender" for the Montreal Canadiens. Davey Johnson (6:52), "the 86 Mets manager." George Raveling (7:48), a Hall of Fame basketball coach who famously secured the original copy of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, which is now on display in a museum. Graham Green (9:05), an actor known for his role in Dances with Wolves. Sports stories (11:25) The hosts discuss a series of bizarre sports events: A Missouri fan at the Kansas game "just kinda walks onto the field and kicks a field goal at the Kansas sideline" out of spite. A Phillies fan who loudly demanded a home run ball from a man and his son, which Brian describes as "a disgusting example of fandom." The controversy surrounding Laura Rutledge's "burner account" on X (formerly Twitter), which she allegedly used to "defend her husband." Miscellaneous topics (16:35) They talk about James Dolan, the New York Knicks owner, who allegedly "digitally edited his own face onto a munchkin in a Wizard of Oz show" for the Sphere. They also mention a story about the Clippers getting a "ridiculous tree-planting donation that's tied to their salary cap," which they joke is a "weird, weird scandal." Voicemails (20:30) They attempt to play listener voicemails but are hampered by technical difficulties. Brian notes, "The voicemails are not working, which they never do." Ed also gives an update on his injured toe, saying he had to "pop it back in" after it was dislocated. More voicemails and a Christmas mug (23:05) They successfully play voicemails from "Katie Shady" and "LSU." Brian shares a story about seeing a man "drinking from a Christmas mug in September." Conclusion (25:07) The hosts wrap up the episode. Ed brings up his "half birthday," which is coming up this week on September 11th. Brian thanks the listeners and signs off, stating, "My name is Brian Beckner. This has been episode number 591 of the Ball Lifestyle podcast. We will see you next week. Goodbye."
