Trigger Warning - this post discusses abusive relationshipsThis week on the Pastor's Heart, we address the complex issue of domestic abuse within the relationships of ministry leaders. While all abuse is wrong, there are added complexities in ministry relationships.  Often a ministry job is entwined with a ministry families house, income stream, city and community for a ministry family. With that much at stake, wives can feel a pressure not to raise concerns. The dynamics of these relationships then get worse, leaving friends, family and congregation completely unaware and the victim even more isolated. Jenni Woodhouse serves as pastoral care coordinator for the Church Missionary Society NSW & ACT, but previously was chaplain for the Sydney Anglican Church's Professional Standards Unit.We will ask her how to spot relationships like this, how they come to exist within ministry families and strategies to assist impacted families. There are details of immediate crisis support here.Jenni and Dominic talk further about difficult personalities here and domestic violence here.A sermon by Dominic addressing Domestic Violence is here. Ep. 57 — Alex and Bobby talk briefly about a strange NLCS Game 1 and the nomination of José Reyes for Man of the Year, discussing what this says about players’ culpability in turning a blind eye to domestic violence. Then, they (sans Bobby) bring on Sheryl Ring, a Chicago-based lawyer and writer for FanGraphs, to talk about the Dodgers’s shady practices in Latin America and how MLB teams might respond to the investigation, as well as how owners manage to get the public to side with them constantly, how sabermetrics have created hiccups in baseball’s financial system, why minor league pay should be the starting point in fixing that system, and much more. After a week of being sick and having 2 episodes ruined due to technical difficulties, my good friend Trey Weaver of the Subversion Webcast jumps on to interview me about my law school paper: "Vacating the State: Free Market Alternatives to Domestic Violence Policy." I realized only after recording this episode that my audio went through my webcam mic and not my real microphone. So that's three episodes this week affected by technical difficulties. The guys return to expand on the failures in the Josh Brown domestic violence case, and how reactions by the New York Giants mirror the attitudes the NFL's "No More" ad campaign had supposedly put to rest.  Will it ever stop.  Chatham explains when (and only when) the action will marry up with the marketing.  Next the guys look at the case of Aqib Talib, the star Denver Bronocs cornerback whose investigatoin by Dallas police concluded three weeks ago with a determination that he shot himself in a public place.  Why has the league treated this so differently than they did the Plaxico Burress case years ago?  And does this stark contrast add to the confusion for players on what is and isn't allowed by a seemingly arbitrary league justice system.  Finally, the guys discuss a recent MMQB piece that details the Denver Broncos' practice of studying player tells.  Is it unique in the league?  Is it "secret" as the social media headlines would lead the casual observer to believe?  The guys set the record straight... Enjoy the show!
