Munaf Manji and Griffin Warner talk all things MLB. The 2025 MLB season has reached its midpoint, and this comprehensive analysis covers every division with in-depth insights, team trajectories, betting odds, and trade deadline expectations. In the National League West, the Dodgers hold a firm lead despite recent struggles, with the Diamondbacks falling apart due to injuries and shifting into sell mode. San Diego and San Francisco trail closely but have struggled with consistency. The NL Central has turned into a race between the Cubs and Brewers. The Cubs benefit from the easiest second-half schedule and are positioned to buy key players, while the Brewers boast bullpen strength and recent form despite a tougher road ahead. The Mets and Phillies lead a tense NL East battle, separated by just half a game, with both teams healthy and ready to spend at the deadline. Meanwhile, the Braves' collapse due to poor road performance has effectively eliminated them from contention. In the American League, the Astros control the AL West, built on elite pitching and a dominant bullpen, while Yordan Álvarez's return could be pivotal. Seattle is competitive but lacks offensive consistency outside of Cal Raleigh. The Rangers struggle on the road but remain in the wild card hunt. The AL Central is ruled by the Tigers, who lead by 11.5 games with the best record in MLB. Other division teams like the Twins, Guardians, and Royals trail far behind and show little sign of catching up. The AL East is a four-team war among the Blue Jays, Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays. The Blue Jays dominate at home but are vulnerable on the road. The Yankees are aggressive buyers with deep pockets, while Boston's win streak thrust them into the race before a brutal post-break schedule. Tampa Bay has cooled off and may fade. Baltimore, once hyped, is now out of the conversation. Player performance and team value are heavily discussed, such as the Astros' closing combo of Hader and Abreu, the Mariners' unexpected offense, and concerns over Mookie Betts and the Dodgers' injuries. Betting odds provide deeper context. Dodgers and Tigers lead World Series projections, but analysts recommend the Astros (10:1), Blue Jays (20:1), Padres (28:1), and Mets (9:1) for better returns. These teams combine talent with upside and have the potential to strengthen at the deadline. The episode ends by highlighting key second-half questions: Can underperformers bounce back? Will top teams stay healthy? Who will be the most aggressive buyers? And which wild card hopefuls will surge? The next two months promise a thrilling path to October baseball. Welcome to the second State of the Sport, where we will be taking a hard look at what is REALLY going on in various sports over the summer with a subject matter expert.Today, Voltage Live Colleague Sean Fitzgerald will be dissecting the current State of MLB.For the majority of the 2010s, MLB was seen as the far distant third professional sport in terms of popularity compared to the NFL, and the NBA, but radical changes beginning in the 2023 season has brought fans, especially those in the coveted 18-34 demographic, back to the sport. Bigger bases, the banning of the shift and the implementation of a pitch clock has dramatically sped up the game. The average MLB time of game in 2024 was 2:36 compared to 3:06 in 2022.Last offseason, Shohei Ohtani, the game's best player left the Los Angeles Angels in free agency for the Los Angeles Dodgers across town. Ohtani would help lead the Dodgers to their first World Series win (excluding the shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic) since 1981 in a matchup against Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees. From Ohtani, to Judge, to Mookie Betts, to Tarik Skubal, to Bobby Witt Jr. to Jose Ramirez, MLB is loaded with young stars who are moving the game forward. The game has turned more analytical, with stats like WAR, Launch Angle and OPS being the standard bear for how modern MLB fans analyse performances. MLB is also in potentially the last year of its media rights contract with ESPN. ESPN opted out of the deal that was supposed to expire at the end of the 2028 season in March 2025. The two sides are negotiating a potential extension to keep the sport on ESPN, a home it has had since 1990.And now ladies and gentleman, let me introduce to you, the man who is going to help the audience of Brandon's World understand the State of MLB. He is the host of the Fitz On Sports Podcast. He is an MLB expert and has covered Cleveland Guardians games for various media companies. The Phils approach the All-Star Break with questions, while maintaining Playoff position, neck and neck with the Mets atop the NL East. Zach Wheeler will be home resting instead of wasting valuable pitches in the meaningless All-Star Game. With an elite starting rotation, trade deadline moves for the team's struggling bullpen will determine the liklihood of a return trip to the World Series. With valuable prospects and trade pieces on the present club, Dombrowski will have options this month. The mystery remaining is how he will decide to move, or not move those pieces, and what value other teams believe they actually possess in a deal. The Sixers are in the midst of the summer league and Edgecombe looks like a player. Yet again however, the success of this basketball team next season will hinge on the health and availability of their former MVP Embiid as well as star Paul George. As the NFL offseason presses on and Training Camp is around the corner, we discuss Jalen Hurts and the landscape of NFL QB's through Super Bowl history as well as the present state, and look back at SBLIX. The Padres and Dodgers concluded their 10th game in two weeks in spectacular fashion with Xander Bogaerts lifting the club and Ryan Bergert delivering a great effort in his 8th game in MLB.ALLLLL that was overshadowed in the top of the 9th however. After Dave Roberts pulled Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman from a still-competitive 5-0 game, Fernando Tatis Jr was hit by Dodgers pitching for the 3rd time in 9 games. Mike Shildt came on the field and called Roberts out, then Roberts rushed in and gave Mike a forearm shiver, sending both benches onto the field. The Padres failed to add to their 5 run lead and Sean Reynolds immediately got into trouble in the bottom half of the frame. Robert Suarez was called in to save the game with two on and one out. He allowed a RBI single and an RBI ground out, setting the stage for Shohei Ohtani to come up with the tying run on deck. Suarez through 3 balls, then hit Ohtani right between the numbers and was promptly ejected. Yuki Matsui came in, threw a run scoring wild pitch and walked Betts' replacement, bring the winning run to the plate. Yuki brought him to a full count before throwing a 92 MPH fastball past rookie Daulton Rushing, securing a win for the Friars in an instant classic.Chris, Raphie and Craig discuss the madness in this free for all Group Therapy.
