Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to left wrist inflammation, marking his third stint on the shelf this season. Corey Pieper breaks down a frantic wave of injury updates, an incredible single-game home run barrage in Cleveland, high-leverage late-inning bullpen roles, and the FanDuel Bet of the Day. The transaction wire continues to move at a relentless pace across Major League Baseball. On the health front, Bobby Witt Jr. was forced to exit Monday's contest early with lingering back tightness, Miguel Andujar hits the injured list with a wrist fracture, and Max Meyer lands on the IL with a neck strain. Additionally, top catchers and outfielders are banged up as Kyle Teel manages an ankle injury, Kerry Carpenter is sidelined with a heel bruise, and Trevor McDonald was removed from his start due to an undisclosed injury. On the positive side of roster moves, Ronel Blanco has officially been activated, Ranger Suarez is set to return to the mound today, and Gleyber Torres is officially back in active lineups. On the diamond, the Cleveland offense staged an absolute power showcase by smashing seven home runs in a single game, driven by multi-homer performances from Rhys Hoskins and Petey Halpin alongside long balls from Travis Bazzana, Brayan Rocchio, and Patrick Bailey. Cal Raleigh broke his game open with a grand slam, while Yordan Alvarez, Mookie Betts, Trea Turner, Jeremy Peña, Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, Esmerlyn Valdez, Ty France, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Caleb Durbin, Cooper Pratt, Victor Robles, and Dillon Dingler all turned in big days at the plate. Pitching highlights featured sharp outings from Bryce Elder, Nick Martinez dueling Dylan Cease, Andrew Abbott facing George Kirby, and Kyle Leahy battling Jose Soriano. Conversely, several high-profile stars cratered into the duds section, with Joe Ryan, Cristopher Sanchez, Emmett Sheehan, Freddy Peralta, Jacob Misiorowski, and Jacob deGrom all taking heavy damage on the hill, while Brandon Lowe, Kyle Schwarber, Braxton Ashcraft, Ryan Weathers, and Ivan Herrera posted quiet, empty nights. Our rotating Bullpen Report zeroes in on late-inning situations around the league, breaking down Aroldis Chapman remaining in Boston, Alex Lange carving out leverage in Kansas City, the dual usage of Tyler Wells and Andrew Kittredge in Baltimore, a crowd of options in Chicago featuring Grant Taylor, Sean Newcomb, and Seranthony Dominguez, Edwin Diaz nearing a potential weekend return for the Dodgers, Mason Montgomery rising in Pittsburgh, and the unsettled hierarchy in San Francisco. Roki Sasaki had never had an MLB start against a non-Angels team in which he didn't allow any earned runs. He has now, after 5.2 strong innings to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to victory in their series opener at Yankee Stadium. Max Muncy hit a huge two-run homer in the 7th inning to account for all of LA's runs, and Andy Pages teamed up with Mookie Betts and Dalton Rushing to cut down the potential tying run at the plate in the 8th, making up for earlier in the game when a Pages error and a Rushing passed ball led to New York's only run of the game. Also, does Will Smith's uncertain status mean the Dodgers need a catcher at the trade deadline? If so, who? Jeff Snider and Clint Pasillas are here to discuss it all, along with updates on Kiké Hernandez, Edwin Diaz, and Blake Snell. New York Times bestselling author Joe Posnanski returns to talk to the boys about how he ended up partnering up with should-be future podcast guest Michael Schur, their new book, Big Fan, why it's a good time for fans, his dream event to attend, whether or not anything can compete with late 80s Michael Jackson hysteria, tracking down (and hugging) Mookie Betts, the three most handsome men he's stood next to and, for some reason, the best damn autograph story you'll ever hear. Wells can't believe that a World Series MVP (Mookie Betts) spent an entire round of golf calling him "Wellsy," and that World Cup tourists are trying to smuggle ranch dressing home through LAX. And Brandi is still knee-deep in a renovation nightmare that keeps getting worse. As if her reno experience wasn't terrible enough, a dumpster truck ran over two tubs of paint in Brandi's driveway, and one missing sink faucet has turned into a seven-week (and counting) waiting game. Meanwhile Wells had the best 24 hours of his year involving a pool party turned into hotdogs, oysters and martinis, a hungover 8:30am beer at his Golf Channel show, and a round at Lakeside with Dodgers star Mookie Betts where he shot the best round of his life, which led him to drink more, because personal best, duh! They came into today's episode with nothing prepped ("literally zilch"), so they end up settling the aioli-vs-ranch debate and workshop who'd be Matt's real-life hall pass since, apparently, he "doesn't have one."FAVORITE THINGS:Silo (Apple TV+)Extinction (Netflix)Ransom Canyon Season 2 (Netflix)The Crowded Room (Apple TV+)Dungeon Crawler Carl (audiobook)Star CityLife, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness (HBO)We do this show for the few YFTers that are still out there. Roki Sasaki bounced back from a couple rough innings to put up a quality start, Mookie Betts had a huge game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth, Tanner Scott got back on his horse, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Rockies in the rubber match of their three-game series. The Boston Celtics just traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George and draft picks, and Missing the Point is officially entering emergency podcast mode.Dave Clarke and Matt Wilcox break down the shocking Jaylen Brown trade, the Celtics' decision to send a Finals MVP and franchise cornerstone directly to one of their biggest Eastern Conference rivals, and whether Brad Stevens just made one of the worst trades in Boston sports history. Is this worse than the Mookie Betts trade? The Babe Ruth sale? Joe Thornton to the Sharks? Jeff Bagwell to the Astros? Chauncey Billups leaving the Celtics before becoming a Finals MVP? The guys rank the Jaylen Brown-Paul George trade among the most painful Boston sports moves ever. The episode dives deep into the trade package, including Paul George, the 2028 and 2031 first-round pick value, the second-round picks, and whether the Celtics actually improved their future or simply got older, worse, and emotionally ruined. Dave and Matt compare Jaylen Brown vs. Paul George, discuss Brown's career-best season, George's injury concerns, Boston's salary cap issues, and what this means for Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, Sam Hauser, Baylor Scheierman, Mitchell Robinson, and the rest of the Celtics roster. Then, the guys try to salvage the entire disaster with one dream trade idea: calling the New Orleans Pelicans for Zion Williamson and Herb Jones. Could Boston flip Paul George and the 76ers picks into a new Celtics core around Jayson Tatum, Zion Williamson, Herb Jones, Mitchell Robinson, and Payton Pritchard? Or is this just Celtics grief bargaining in real time? After the Celtics therapy session, Missing the Point pivots to UFC 329, headlined by Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway 2 at welterweight. Dave and Matt preview McGregor's return, Holloway's chances at 170, the lack of classic Conor fight-week buzz, and whether the UFC's new Paramount Plus era has changed the way major cards feel. Francisco Lindor was back in the Mets lineup for the first time in two months, but it was his shortstop counterpart -- Dansby Swanson -- who made waves with 11 RBIs in the Cubs' doubleheader sweep. First and foremost, please allow me to start this episode of FYB by honestly and truthfully congratulating the Mets for a successful Black Legacy Night. The Mixtape was not in the building last night, but I believe the crew will be there in the future. Our mission is to share the intersection of baseball and Black culture for all to appreciate. Club access helps, but it's not a driving force for the mission. With that, it was a huge night in MLB for several of our Mixtape friends: congrats to Mookie Betts on his 300th home run! Samad Taylor, Braden Montgomery, and Khalil Watson all stayed hot. Even Cam Smith flashed the leather in right field. Enjoy the highlights. I will see you tomorrow.
The guys start the show off talking about Dalton Rushing and Shohei having a disagreement that went viral - who the heck does Rushing think he is? More on the Dodgers and Rushing at least admitting his failures, said last night after the game his performance was ‘embarassing' but he'll be better. Berg's 3 things: Mookie Betts hottest hitter? Tanner Scott resurgence? Day off before the 'fun' Padres series - Roki vs Vazquez, Yama v Buehler, Sheehan vs King. Michelle Smallmon from ESPN Radio stops by for her weekly “Michelle's Safe Space” segment and talks about Saints QB Tyler Shough and the Giannis trade. Learn more about your ad choices.
