Richard Hutten is ontwerper. Het werk van Hutten kenmerkt zich door functionele meubelen in een conceptuele en humoristische stijl. Vanaf 1993 is hij betrokken bij Droog Design. Zijn werk maakt deel uit van de vaste collecties van bijna 50 musea, waar onder het Stedelijk Museum, het Centraal museum en het San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Het Nieuwe Instituut viert het dertigjarig bestaan van designcollectief Droog. Femke van der Laan gaat met Richard Hutten in gesprek.
Martí Guixé (*1964) ist ein spanischer Designer, der in Barcelona und Berlin lebt. Studium der Innenarchitektur an der Elisava in Barcelona und des Industriedesign an der Scuola Politecnica di Design di Milano. 2001 etablierte er den Begriff "Ex-Design", um sich gegen die begrenzten Möglichkeiten des traditionellen Designers zu positionieren. Er lehnt Design als stilisiertes Objekt und Form ab. Anstatt bestehende Produkte umzugestalten, will er unsere Art und Weise des Sehens und Denkens verändern. Sein Ansatz spiegelt sich in der häufigen Verwendung von Wegwerf- oder Billigmaterialien und dem flüchtigen Charakter vieler seiner Arbeiten. Seine Sensibilität für schnell verfügbare, auf den Massenkonsum ausgerichtete Materialien, hat ihn zu einem wichtigen Innovator im Food-Design gemacht. Er verstand das Food-Design als Möglichkeit, Strukturen rund um Lebensmittel, die Industrie und den Verbraucher neu zu bewerten und zu gestalten. Er arbeitete im kommerziellen Bereich für Marken wie Camper, Alessi, Danese, Dentsu, Desigual, Drill, Droog Design, Magis, Nani Marquina, Vitra und andere. Auf er anderen Seite weckten seine Arbeiten raschweckten das Interesse der Kunstwelt. Seine Entwürfe, Installationen und Performances wurden in zahlreichen internationalen Gruppen-Asusstellungen und Einzelprojekten gezeigt, darunter im MOMA, Centre Georges Pompidou, Design Museum London, Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève, National Art Center Tokyo und Museum für angewandte Kunst.

On this episode, Ishan talks about his journey as a designer and his opinions about design in India. Dit jaar vieren Museum Kranenburgh en Droog Design samen hun 25-jarig bestaan met een feestelijke totaalinstallatie, vormgegeven door Koehorst in 't Veld. Het is een terugblik, maar voor Kranenburgh ook de verkenning van nieuw terrein: voor het eerst zijn de zalen gevuld met industriële vormgeving. Caspar Stalenhoef spreekt met Mariette Dölle (directeur Kranenburgh) en Renny Ramakers (medeoprichter Droog Design).

Tim Vermeulen interviews pioneering designer, educator and entrepreneur Gijs Bakker, the co-founder of Droog Design and founder of the jewellery brand Chi Ha Paura...?, about the importance of raising cultural awareness and the role of design education in industrial culture. Bakker talks about jewellery design and its relationship to his industrial practice, his role in design education in the Netherlands, and his culturally focused entrepreneurship. Vermeulen pays particular attention to Bakker’s ongoing efforts to develop a worldwide cultural design practice. This interview was recorded before a live audience during Tokyo Designers Week 2010.
