I interviewed Maya Shekel about Eddie and I on Monday, September 1, 2025 at Venice Immersive in Venice, Italy. Here is the story synopsis for Eddie and I: "How do you overcome the fear of the unknown? Eight-year-old deaf Ron is afraid of his first camping trip. To calm him, his mother tells the story of Eddie the Camper, a friendly monster who grew up in the forest and is the perfect companion for a nature adventure. Despite her efforts, Ron, struggles to believe the story, and his fear persists. That night, Ron falls into a deep sleep and awakens in a surreal forest where he meets the player, embodied as Eddie the Camper. Together, they embark on an adventure full of challenges. But there's one barrier standing in the way: Ron can't hear, and the player doesn't know sign language. Across this interactive VR experience, the player and Ron will need to work together to complete tasks like building a campfire, skipping stones in the river, stargazing, and even confronting a menacing carnivorous flower. Along the way, the player'll navigate the forest, learn simple sign language keywords, and build trust. Will the player and Ron bridge the gap, overcome communication barriers, and succeed in the adventure?" Here are the contextual domains that are explored: Communication [3] in the context of feeling a bit exiled from the cutulre via the experience of deafness [12], but you cultivate empathy and connection [7] as you travel to a camping adventure [9] and be a friend to the main character [11]. You also embody a monster [12], but it is treated functionally as an invisble [12] friend [11]. Here is the Elemental Center of Gravity: 1st Center of Gravity of Emotional Presence: Scenes at home, and then off to a camping adventure with a 3-4 different distinct scenes. It's very story-driven, but the emodied interactions are also a main focal point2nd Center of Gravity of Fire Element / Active Presence: sign language actions very much inform the arc of the narrative, and emphasize the desire to connecct and empathize with the deaf protagonist3rd Center of Gravity of Earth Element / Environmental and Embodied Presence: The embodied interactions of doing the sign language with hand tracking, You are embodied as a main character within this story -- in fact the monster of Eddie4th Center of Gravity of Air Element / Mental and Social Presence: There is a bit of educational quality to it such that the end result does seem to be to teach various different sign language signs. But this is also very much not an educational application. It has teaching moments contained within the context of the story. So it is very-much still story-driven, but can still have a pedagocial edge to it, which can be in tension with the inherent narrative tensions of the story. More Air / Thinking than Water / Emotion overall in the piece for me Archetypal Themes and Character Explored: Communication through embodied actions. Empathy Artist Statement: "How can we communicate when we don't share a common language? Whether it's French, Arabic, or sign language, how can we bridge the gap between the unfamiliar and ourselves? This question goes beyond sign language, touching on the deeper challenge of connecting across cultures, communities, and different lived realities. Eddie and I transforms barriers into opportunities for connection. Users play Eddie, a friendly monster helping Ron, a deaf boy, overcome his fear of camping, using storytelling and hand-tracking to learn simple sign language and build trust. In an increasingly polarised world, Eddie and I seeks to reduce alienation, stigma, and intolerance, offering a safe, playful, empathetic encounter with “the other”. This embodied, memorable experience shows how technology can serve as a powerful tool to foster deeper understanding and empathy across all walks of life." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Cmrp3POKKo This is a listener-supported podcast through the Voices of VR Patreon. A quiet mushroom hunt on the Oregon Coast. A terrifying scream in the forests above Discovery Bay. Four thunderous whoops outside a tent in the middle of the night near Port Townsend. In this unforgettable conversation, Austin Aretakis shares a series of firsthand encounters that changed the way he views the wilderness forever.Austin recounts his earliest unexplained experience near Floras Lake before taking us deep into one of the closest Sasquatch encounters ever featured on Bigfoot Society. While camping alone near Fort Townsend Historical State Park, something massive approached his hidden campsite, circled his tent, responded with powerful vocalizations, and left behind physical evidence the following morning. The conversation also explores strange vocalizations, possible mimicry, wilderness survival, natural farming, faith, and the lifelong impact these experiences have had on Austin's search for answers.Locations featured include:• Floras Lake, Oregon• Port Orford, Oregon• Rogue River, Oregon• Discovery Bay, Washington• Port Townsend, Washington• Fort Townsend Historical State ParkIf you've ever wondered what it would be like to hear something enormous moving through the darkness just outside your tent, this is an episode you won't want to miss.
Why do some RVs remain dependable for 30 years while others become expensive money pits much sooner than expected? The answer isn't always the RV's age, brand, or original price. So in this podcast, I reveal six important reasons that can make the difference—and explain what RV owners and buyers should know before small problems turn into costly ones.

Pennsylvania has played an important part in America's History. And Bucks County hosted one of the most famous moments of our country's founding, Washington crossing the Delaware in December 1776. The discussion reviews brands like Scout, Four Wheel Campers, and Supertramp, while contrasting flatbed and wedge campers. The panel also covers international travel factors—like fuel and drivetrains—and essential livability features. After reviewing expedition vehicle manufacturers and the pros and cons of vans, they pivot to trailers as a family-friendly solution. We Didn't Know What We Didn't Know- Stories of Teaching Over Three Decades
We're in a Camper and Nobody AskedSue and Lisa are recording from a camper, fresh off graduation season and still handing out $20 bills. Today's topic: games — and everything that can go wrong when you play them with the people you love.Chapter 1 Cheaters, Quitters & the Guy Who Takes the Elevator Up KilimanjaroEvery game table has a type — the cheater, the quitter, the ultra-competitive, the clueless one — and Sue and Lisa have met all of them. As retired teachers, they have strong feelings about tenacity, and a Kilimanjaro story that will tell you everything about a person in four seconds.Chapter 2 Our Moms Said WHAT?!From "Wiener liquor" in the backseat to a sweet grandma being called a lying whore mid-Bullsh#! game, their moms and grandmas in this episode steal every story. Turns out the funniest game moments almost always involve someone's mother who had no idea what she was signing up for.Chapter 3 Weird Games You Need to Play ImmediatelySue and Lisa recommend Gartic Phone, Hues & Cues, Mrs. Mumbles, and the Quantum Leap same-word game — and they actually play one live on air. No equipment required, no losers, just a good crowd and low expectations.Chapter 4 Fuzzy Duck, Dog Collars & Other Things That Should Not Be LegalQuarters, Fuzzy Duck, and one electric dog collar incident that escalated faster than anyone planned. These are the games nobody teaches you — you just end up playing them at a party and hope everyone makes it to adulthood.Chapter 5 Put Down Your Phone and Play SomethingSue and Lisa want your best game recommendations — especially anything that works across generations. A witness spends five days alone in the Arkansas Ozarks…Then the footsteps begin. What starts as quiet movement outside a remote bushcraft shelter turns into constant surveillance from unseen beings moving through the trees around him day and night. The sounds get closer. Vocalizations begin. Stones land near camp. Then something responds directly to his thoughts. In this episode, Jackson shares a lifetime of encounters stretching from the swamps of Florida to the mountains of North Carolina and deep into the forests of Arkansas. He describes a face-to-face encounter with a towering Sasquatch beside a river near Boone, unexplained activity surrounding camp in the Ozarks, and Cherokee teachings about “the Sasquatch people” and Mind Speak communication. This is one of the most intense wilderness encounter interviews ever featured on Bigfoot Society.Originally released as Episode 515 on September 2, 2024.If you listen late at night, you may not look at the woods the same way again.

Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube channel is back with more amazing encounters, and this time he brings us deep into the wild, unforgiving landscape of Alaska. Be sure to check out his channel using the link below. In this episode, Fred shares Ralph's chilling early-1980s encounter on the Willow side of Hatcher Pass, where what began as a routine trip to set up a travel trailer on soft breakup ground quickly turned into something far more terrifying. Ralph first believed he had spotted a bear near the treeline, but the massive figure he saw soon revealed itself to be something far more humanlike, standing an estimated nine-and-a-half to ten feet tall.Over the following days and nights, the activity around the trailer intensified with guttural growls, strange clicking sounds, older tracks, and what appeared to be a worn path leading dangerously close to the trailer window. The encounter escalated when the trailer was violently tipped onto its side during a night of terrifying growls.Ralph fired at the figure in the darkness and later discovered broken windows that had to be patched. On another night, he woke to see a large hand reaching through one of those broken windows, fired again, and then heard heavy movement across the roof. After finding stacked lumber shoved deep into the ground, Ralph finally left the property and never returned. His brother would later abandon the land as well after experiencing similar unexplained events.Fred also shares a haunting 1990s report from near the Kvichak River, where a wolf's howl was followed by the appearance of twenty to thirty wolves and a strange “Jeremiah Johnson”-looking figure. Local elders warned people not to go out alone and spoke of “hairy men” connected to wolves, adding another eerie layer to Alaska's long history of wild, remote, and unsettling Sasquatch encounters.Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube ChannelEmail BrianGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.Have you had a Bigfoot encounter, Sasquatch sighting, Dogman experience, or other cryptid or paranormal encounter?
